“How do I make elegance relevant to someone who’s young?” The perfect answer to talented 25-year-old designer Wes Gordon’s question was his own collection for the upcoming spring 2012 season, shown during New York Fashion Week. Featuring a sweet flavor of femininity and freshness and a unique sense of laidback elegance, all the pieces featured in the latest Wes Gordon Spring 2012 collection will certainly appeal to the modern woman, who likes experimenting with luxurious details, at the same time keeping things much casual.
Apparently, the young designer strived to do “spring that’s not chintzy, because spring can sometimes go light, silly, and disposable.” “We worked a lot with the mills on the embellishments, and this is for the downtown girl who wants to dress up a little bit,” revealed Gordon.
Wes Gordon’s vision for spring/summer 2012 is all about vintage details, which can be so fun and joyful. Drawing inspiration from a photo of his sister, Wes gave life to an extraordinary fashion line, which is so wearable, so lovely and bold. It’s an amazing casual, still luxurious collection, which has something to tell, precisely a story that inspires and that has a great power in combining sophistication with classic lines with a subtle modern twist. As he put it: “It’s the idea of how to make luxury relevant to the girls who are my peers — I’m 25…We did that with color, with beautiful fabrics, with separates.”
“I’d like to continue on the track we’re going. We’re growing each season. We showed 18 looks last time, 23 this time. We’re partnering with great stores and to continue growing those relationships and gaining new fans for the clothes,” he added.
No wonder, his collection is for young girls, who want to pull off nice and cool looks – a market, which has perhaps grown thanks to Kate Middleton. Instead of opting for obscure reference points, boldness or androgyny, the newcomer designer goes for pretty and he does it really in an amazing way. Even the great abundance of bows doesn’t look fussy, when tied with Gordon’s nimble hands! “We wanted to take in these rich textures and embellishments and have that feeling you get from fall so easily but sometimes it’s hard to get in spring,” Wes stated.
Perfectly polished lines accentuated with incredible fabrics and color choices make all the difference and Wes Gordon took things to completely a new level by breathing youthful, fresh and cool vibe to his collection, which will help young girls pull off effortlessly chic looks, without losing their femininity and style. Double-faced cropped jackets, stylish floor length, midi and mini dresses, stylish pants ensembles, wide leg pants, chic snakeskin shorts, sheer jackets, knee-length cocktail dresses, rich colors and textures, and feminine tops accessorized with colored waistbands, embroidery and lace details draw instant smiles, growing that strong desire in us to have fun in the spring season.
The clothes featured in the latest Wes Gordon Spring 2012 collection are certainly sophisticated and contain kind of sense of maturity, which may seem beyond Wes’ years to some people. However, as the designer puts it age is nothing in the fashion industry. “There are other people just as young! I don’t get that. I get carded, too. I think I have a baby face. I’m getting a lot of gray hair though,” he said, “I think this is definitely a field where age isn’t such a factor. It’s really about the quality of what you’re producing. At the end of the day, what I do and what everyone in fashion does is you try to make something that everyone’s going to fall in love with and wanna wear and how old you are and who you are–none of those things matter.”
