It’s definitely not necessary for Rihanna to prove that she’s a real style icon, as the promo photos for her latest album Talk That Talk already reveal this once again. The 23-year-old singer certainly knows how to channel her inner diva and in the photos for her album she rocks some retro inspired looks that suit her extremely well. Fashion seems to be in Rihanna’s blood, as she always manages to sport unique looks, from red carpet ones to edgy looks. Retro chic is the style adopted by Rihanna for the Talk That Talk album promo shoot as well as for the first video from the album for the “We Found Love” single. However, some of the photos have caused a stir, as she seems to “glamorize smoking”. The diva is seen smoking and holding a cigarette in her hand in the photos, which is an alarm signal for many. For this choice of hers, Rihanna has been certainly criticized a lot by the Ulster Cancer Foundation of Ireland, where she shot her video “We Found Love”.
And even though she was so much criticized for smoking in her video clip, she seemed to ignore it and went on with the same concept for the photo shoot. According to DailyMail, a spokesperson for the UCF of Ireland charity, Doreen Reegan, said: “Three-quarters of adult smokers start the habit as teenagers, which is why it is so irresponsible of Rihanna to influence her young fan base in this way. After so much hype around the filming of the video it was very disappointing to see Rihanna so blatantly smoking throughout it. Artists such as Rihanna are held in high esteem and regarded as role models by millions of young people. We are very concerned that young people watching the video will see smoking as glamorous and want to copy her behaviour.”
Although she looks really attractive in the photos, let’s agree that “glamorizing” the harmful cigarette is certainly not justified!
