Michael Kors Spring 2012 – New York Fashion Week

Inspired by Kors’s memories of Africa, the latest Michael Kors Spring 2012 collection is flooded with earthy tones, animal and tribal prints, djellabas, caftans, and lots of leather accessories, at the same time keeping the unique and distinguishing Kors vibe.


Look wild and at the same time luxurious in the existent jungle! That was the message at Michael Kors, where a warm, desert-sand palette, wild animal and tribal prints, and tie-dye patterns were telling an exciting story about the designer’s extraordinary African experience. Kors himself admitted that “If I could commute, my new South Beach would be the Singita Lodges in South Africa. We’ve been there three times.”
Apparently, Kors’s vision of the ideal woman is Amazonian, the vivid proof of which is his “Afriluxe” collection that simply bewitched everyone during New York Fashion Week. The catwalk turned into an urban safari at Michael Kors, being flooded with leopards, zebras, crocodiles, pythons, caftans and djellabas. Actually, the collection is described as the African memories of a voyager, an artistic composition of creamy tones of ivory, impala and antelope, a reflection of wildness and sexiness. In one word…Afriluxe.
Step into the dramatic and breathtaking African landscape through swimsuits, sheath dresses, romper suits, shifts and prettily feathered cocktail dresses with zebra, python and leopard-prints, safari jackets, cargo pants, camp shirts, distressed woven sweaters, tie-dyed skirts and dresses, silk anoraks, python trench coats, a leopard feathered handkerchief gown, hand dyed blanket dresses, warm colors, patchworks, and specific textures and patterns. There was an explorer theme too, which included slouch suits, practically-pocketed jackets and pants and bandolier belts in brown, khaki and olive.
All the accessories used perfectly complemented the safari-inspired outfits, created for brave and bold fashionizers, ready to show off their adventurous and fun side, at the same time keeping the urban chic, luxurious vibe. This included easy-to-wear leather lace-up gladiator sandals, mid-calf buckled sandals cub boots perfectly described as “very Masai”, python bags, woven backpacks messenger bags, cross-body bags with crocodile straps, utility belts, pouches, and hand-dyed scarves rounding up the looks.
Color-wise, ivory, tan, sand, camel, chocolate, mustard, saffron, cinnamon, and bursts of orange, alongside with those zebra, python and leopard prints oozed an artistic, chic and elegant feel, making really a great impact.
