The beautiful twins and talented actresses, great designers and just fascinating girls Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are featured in the “Vogue” magazine of April 2011. The 24-year-old girls are real style icons, at the same time being quite mature and responsible girls, which was proved still on their 18th birthday, when they took control of Dualstar.
According to the Vogue, Mary-Kate said: “The thing about us is we think big. Huge.” Now the sisters are thinking of brand extension and creating original handbags. “I’m obsessed with branding,” Ashley claimed.
Talking about their designing experience, Ashley said: “Dualstar started when we were six. And we had a collection with Walmart at twelve, which was the upper tier of the tween market. It was before celebrity designers.” “And we were really designing it. It would be jeans, a bit bohemian, or with a little blazer. It was really fashion-forward,” Mary-Kate added.
The sisters have become great fashion icons thanks to their unique and sometimes even weird style.”Hmm. There’s hers, there’s mine. And a huge ‘maybe’ pile,” Ashley said when talking about their wardrobes.
In 2006, Ashley founded The Row, striving to create white T-shirts, suiting every woman. At first it had rather a few customers, but later on grew up into a huge company. “We hired a showroom and talked buyers through,” remembered Ashley. “People would drill us about fabric, where we’d make it,” Mary-Kate added. “The first season, customers bought it, so the stores came back. And drilled us again.”
Besides their appearance similarities, the twins are completely different personalities, with different tastes and styles, however they succeed in making a dynamic and fruitful duo in business. Ashley is considered to be more financial oriented, while Mary-Kate is quite creative. “Some of our memories are shared. We don’t know what actually happened to whom. One of us was stung by a bee, but we can’t remember who, because we both felt it,” says Mary-Kate.
When the word went about their acting career, Ashley told the Vogue: “I am so proud of what we did. We made kids smile every day. But we had done the most we could do.” Then, Mary-Kate said that resigning from acting business “was a fear, but also, an exhale.”
About their designing influences, Mary-Kate said: “We had our observations about fashion changing, when it went from being so eighties to the slipdress and the dark lip. We’d see students coming back from college in grunge. And then Lori Loughlin [Full House] had all this great Donna Karan.”
The girls certainly have huge future plans. “I want to run a studio. I’d probably like to manage other people on their brands. It could be an artist. A young designer. It could be an existing brand,” Ashley admits.
We’ll live on and see many other surprising and interesting creations and plans from our favorite twins-duo – beautiful Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
