The incredible Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection was the swan song during New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2011-2012, and it really managed to close the show in a beautiful way. After all the rumors that Marc Jacobs will probably leave Louis Vuitton for Christian Dior, his collection, which will probably be the last one for the label, was expected to be something really sizzling. And it actually was!
The renowned American designer stated he wanted to create something “unreal”, which, however, doesn’t mean that the designs aren’t appropriate for wearing in real life. The looks were retro with a bit of surreal touch. Mixing ‘20s and ‘60s styles and spicing things up with ’90s space-cowboy touches, Marc managed to create a maximum fascinating fashion line, each and every single piece of which would be every sassy fashionizer’s dream to own. The designs also featured some futuristic vibe, which was vivid thank to the shiny and sheer materials used.
There were no intriguing minis in the new Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection, but classy knee-length dresses and skirts, which came in a variety of fabrics, from chic lace to hypnotic organza. Some designs were color blocked and fringed, which increased the dreamy allure of the entire line. Silhouettes were kept much straightforward, using a sweet bubble-ruffle here or a romantic pleated frill there. The designer opted for crew necklines, cropped sleeves and hemlines just around the knee.
When it comes to fabrics, Jacobs showed a fantastic play with reflections and transparency by going for glittery, shiny materials, or iridescent fabrics with checks and gingham. Color-wise, the amazing Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection featured mainly pastel, metallic and jewel toned hues, thus laying the stress on the light and youthful character of spring.
In terms of accessories, the collection was extremely diverse. There were weird shoes with plastic sheer details on top, as well as high-heeled cowboy boots in vinyl and silver, talking about the western vibe of the collection. Most shoes came in combination with socks. As for handbags, there were only some tiny ridiculous or middle-sized pieces. All the looks were spiced up with the stylish headpieces, ranging from trendy hats to kerchiefs.
All in all, the Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection was really something unique and something amazing, and it will no doubt become a gorgeous source of inspiration for voguish women in the upcoming season.
