After a few successful fashion lines, Kat Von D turns to surreal motifs as a source of inspiration for creating her Love Letters lookbook. For Fall 2011 the overall theme was influenced by Love Letters: “Over the years I’ve saved every single letter, note, and card given to me by loves. Reading through them, each one triggers beautiful feelings, some are more melancholic than others, but all beautiful none the less. I thought about my favorite love story of all time, which is the tale of Ludwig van Beethoven’s ‘Immortal Beloved’ – a mystery that even now has never been truly solved. When I put on the “Beethoven” jacket, or the Fur Elise pants, I feel tragically romantic”.
Kat’s artistic heritage certainly left its mark on her new collection: “The purpose of me creating this clothing line is simply to practice and share what Mom taught me: Express yourself through your art – whether it’s your drawings in a sketchpad, tattoos on your skin, the shade of your lipstick, or the clothes that you wear.“
Stylish above the knee dresses and skirts, shapely jackets and beautiful legging styles are the main ingredients of the Kat Von D Love Letters Lookbook, while ponchos, well emphasized shoulders and geometric necklines make the main style elements used. In terms of color, there is a great preference for dark tones, however besides timeless black, there are also some gold and metallic touches that come to create a beautiful eye-catching effect.
