How to Style a Fishtail Braid

Braided hairstyles look utterly feminine and sweet, offering you endless style possibilities. They are also highly practical and easy to sport in no time, without requiring too profound styling skills. Lately braids have been very trendy and one of the trendiest and most interesting styles is the fishtail braid. So gorgeous and sweet, fishtail braids can add fun to your dull appearance, preparing you for a casual or evening look. Highly versatile and effortless, this whimsical hairstyle looks extremely sophisticated, chic and feminine, bringing a little extra something to your overall appearance.

You can sport a fishtail braid in various ways, loose or tight, in a braided tail or an updo. Though it may appear a little bit complicated at first glance, it just requires a few simple steps to follow in order to adopt such a trendy hairstyle. Learn below and prepare to look highly voguish with your new youthful hairstyle!
The first step is to divide your hair into two equal sections, unlike the classical braids, for which you’ll have to divide your hair into three sections. Take a thin strand of hair with your right hand from the outside of the right section of the hair, cross it over itself and join it to the left section. Repeat this with the second side. Take a thin strand with your left hair from the outside of the left section of the hair, cross it over and add it to the right section. Continue the process, until you’re done with all the hair and finally secure your braid with an elastic band.

You can give your fishtail braid a chic vibe, by taking out some flyaways, after the pleating. Wear your braid at the back or on the side for a sexier look. You can also go for some cute accessories for a sweet effect, like some ribbons for a bohemian look.
There is also another way of wearing fishtail braids. First straighten your hair and start pleating a fishtail braid on one side of your head. Braid down the side, pulling in pieces from the outside and if you want to get a looser effect, push up on the braid before securing. You should pleat your braid until it’s long enough to reach the middle of the back of your head. Do the same thing with the other side of your head and finally join the two braids, tying them together with some band of your hair color. At the end cut the elastic bands from the braids.
It’s no longer a hard task for you to get a sweet, fresh and youthful hairstyle. Just start practicing and surprise your friends with your “magic” styling skills.
