How to Choose Eco-Friendly Beauty Products

Eco-friendly beauty products are getting more and more popularity nowadays and many fashionizers try to find more ecological ways of pampering their beauty. However, all the labeling and marketing may be a little confusing and many wonder to know how to choose eco-friendly beauty products. There are a few smart beauty tips that will put you on the right track, so read through this guideline and be careful while choosing new beauty products for you.

Read Labels

It’s really important to read the labels while buying some new beauty products. There are brands that use mainly natural ingredients, like oils or plant extracts, while other mix them with chemicals that might be allergenic and carcinogenic. Keep in mind that eco-friendly beauty products NEVER contain such ingredients as formaldehyde, tolulene, DBP, sodium lauryl, laureth sulfate, propylene glycol, petrolatum, mercury, lead and others. If you find any of them in the product you choose, be sure that it’s not eco-friendly!

Read about the Packaging

The packaging usually also contains some information about the product contained. You can find out the way the products were made and know whether they are eco-friendly or not. Some brands, like Lush offer to return containers in exchange for products. Others just will their containers that you already have. Choose minimal packaging in beauty products.

Animal Testing

Eco-friendly brands never test their products on animals. However, there might be some brands that use ingredients tested by other parties. To have a better idea about this, read the animal testing policies of the brand the products of which you usually purchase. Usually, brands give some information about how they test their products. Stay away from those that do it on animals.

In addition to all this, cosmetics contain some organic certification. If you give preference to organic cosmetics, look for a certification label on the packaging. Certified brands are 100% eco-friendly.
