H&M’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Collection

Movies always have a great impact over the world of fashion. Once a nice story comes to life on the screen, all of us start dreaming of finding ourselves in it, and our favorite fashion designers instantly make our dreams come true with some exclusive collection inspired from the films. This is the case with the H&M brand, which has always been a perfect source, when it comes to creative and innovative collections with the theme. This time, the famous Swedish retailer gets inspired by Lisbeth Salander, the main character in David Fincher’s version of the movie “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, which is played by actress Rooney Mara, and teaming up with designer Trish Summerville, the film’s costume designer, gives birth to a fascinating 30-piece line with a dark urban flair.

“We put a lot of aged-in washes and finishes, which goes along the lines of the Salander character. In the film, her clothes are quite extreme. They’re really worn down, they’re dirty. So for us, it was taking that kind of concept and giving it more of a realistic fashion feel,” Summerville said.
H&M creative director Donald Schneider explained the idea behind this collaboration in a video announcing the exclusive fashion line. “We sat together and said, ‘Why don’t we do something? We are Swedish, this movie has a lot to do with Sweden, which is unusual for Hollywood,” he stated.
Powerful, strict, and with a certain dark urban vibe, the new H&M the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo collection features torn jeans, biker leather jackets and leather pants, loose hoodies, as well as roughed-up leather boots, platform wedges, and accessories, such as backpacks, knitted snoods and tribal-style earrings.
“Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result! My goal is for women to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style,” Trish Summerville says.
The H&M the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo collection will debut exclusively at Colette in Paris on November 28. The new line will be available in 180 H&M stores worldwide, as well as online starting December 14.
