If you want to look like a real “Goddess” in the upcoming warm season, you should certainly draw inspiration from the latest collection of one of the highly acclaimed fashion designers of the moment Diane von Furstenberg. She will teach you how to recover some of the old time glamour of the past decades and inject a high dose of artsy and colorful mood into your spring/summer 2012 closet.
Slated to show on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Diane von Furstenberg confessed she wanted her show at New York Fashion Week to be all about “beginnings, hope.” So she and her new creative director, Yvan Mispeleare, looked back to Africa – “the beginning of the world and the center of the world,” as Diane puts it. However, for her this is not colonial Africa of safaris and sahariennes, but rather the authentic Africa, where sartorial innovation and imagination is abandoned. Diane drew inspiration from her favorite “Viva Riva” Congolese movie, while Yvan was inspired by the edginess of the print and textile fusion the Senegalese sitters love to wear for the iconic portraits by Seydou Keïta. The result is a great abundance of vivid and refreshing prints in a mix of dusty colors and bright pastels, inflamed with china blues, grass greens, aborigines, purples, golds, tans and limes.
As the style godmother reveals, this amazing collection “…is about light and what light can do and how light changes everything…I did something I’ve never done before — I started with white.” The Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2012 fashion show is endowed with a limitless creativity, uplifting color and print, as well as a great amount of femininity. There were also pieces layered with classical menswear and workwear touches, together with “a touch of jolie madame—so, a man’s life in a woman’s body with a little Carven,” laughs Diane.
Jersey and shirt-dresses in pastel and more vibrant tones, retro prints and design patterns, a high emphasis on curves and lady-like silhouettes, pencil skirts, overalls, fabulous floral jackets, Bermuda shorts and perfectly tailored blazers were some of the ingredients making up the new Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2012 collection. The collection looks like to be the place, where a complete relaxation and chic comfort reign, somewhere, where every stylish fashionizer is in her mind. After all, who plays with prints and patterns as skillfully, as DVF does, let alone the incredible designing and tailoring!
