I never cease to be amazed that they derive so much pleasure from hate that they prefer to destroy their own lives for it.
T
TurnipWorldly9437 • 2,320 points
I don’t think they actually derive pleasure from it. None of the hateful people I’ve met seemed like they got any happier from being hateful, they are just deeply unhappy and prefer to blame and hurt others over accepting that THEY are the root of their own problems. If OOP’s ex accepted that she’s the one who lost herself all those jobs, and her friends, and her family, and her husband, and that money, she’d have to take accountability. It’s much easier to blame it all on others.

Less pleasure, more “rewarded”. They feel purpose and identity and meaning in their hate.
T
Theamuse_Ourania • 264 points
It also makes them feel superior, powerful, and smarter than “them”.
E
entropicdrift • 178 points
It also makes the world feel straightforward and clear instead of chaotic and confusing
S

yeah, i was thinking a lot of it would come from fear, too.

This right here. These are powerful motivators in human psychology. So the addiction becomes a self-reinforcing loop as they take on this new identity.
S
SmartQuokka • 528 points
Think of it as demonic pleasure, the dopamine hit mentioned above is accurate but it leaves them unfulfilled and miserable. They derive pleasure from the act then pay the price if you will. As a great poet once said, all spirits are enslaved that serve things evil.

Negative energy can only give brief satisfaction. You may feel better in the moment, but it wears off quickly and you need another hit. It’s the emotional equivalent of eating something sugary.

Wonder how she’s holding up with all the Trumpstien file drops.

This is what people get wrong about dopamine. They hear “reward” and think it means “feels good”. It doesn’t. It just makes you want to do it again. As someone cursed to scavenge dopamine anywhere I can because I can’t make enough (diagnosed ADHD), it saddens me when people categorise dopamine seeking behaviour as “fun”. It almost certainly isn’t. I will do stuff I literally end up hating myself for just to get enough to unload the dishwasher.

This right here is so important (as I take my Vyvanse). One of the things I said to my therapist is that I’ll do things compulsively and I *hate it* and am so angry at myself over it. I don’t consider myself an *unproductive* person per se, but I get sucked into things very easily.

Playing on fears and worries is one of the biggest hooks for engagement. Add anxiety to the mix, and… well.
O
OneBigRed • 57 points
Strong feelings create strong bonds. Unfortunately it’s a lot harder to make masses feel joy and happiness repeatedly at a scale, compared to making them feel anger or hate. Otherwise there’d probably be a LOL News Network that wipes the floor with FOX News.

I really hope his divorce gives him sole custody, BC god she is not a fit mother. She needs extensive help before being left to care for a child again.
R
redpony6 • 11 points
i think that, and, there’s another part, that applies far beyond conspiracy theorists, to almost any negative thoughts there is a pernicious tendency for people to want to be right about their negative perceptions. “see? he *does* hate me. i *am* worthless.” even when being right means things are awful and being wrong means they’re not as bad
P
PeachLady_ • 119 points
Same. It’s wild how far people will go just to cling to hate, even at their own expense.
S
SmartQuokka • 54 points
Indeed, they will even give their lives for hate, covid, measles, the list goes on. And sacrifice their children for it in more ways than one.
C

Im more baffled Q is still a thing

It’s super weird that that there was that supposed JFK reappearance that was going to happen in Dallas and we all thought that was insane. Instead, the USA (and the world, by extension or observers) ended up with his nephew shoved into our faces. Ugh. Those QAnon people are weird as fuck. Rabbit hole junkies.
O
OldRancidSoups • 149 points
I’d take a JFK resurrection over whatever the hell we got with his brain worm having, garbage disposal voiced nephew.
S
SmartQuokka • 846 points
And the crimes Q accused Democrats of are the ones trump and his ilk are guilty of but given a free pass for.
C
CummingInTheNile • 392 points
every accusation is an admission of guilt
W
Wombatypus8825 • 102 points
It’s really sad, but it makes a ton of sense. Of course the bad things you have done are the things you’re terrified of getting out. And so when you reach for an unfounded accusation, what you did is right there, present in your brain.
N
No-Course8887 • 17 points
This hits way too close to home and explains so much about how people act.

I’m no psychologist but I think the phenomenon is called “projection”. I’d like to learn more about it.

Literally on Fox News earlier today they were pushing hard that dems/liberals hate the 1st amendment. Because they had a couple clips of anti-ICE protesters telling people to get out of their face with their cameras/phones. Of course, they had to keep playing the same two clips, because that’s what their whole story rested upon, as opposed to having some kind of proof that liberals overwhelmingly hate the 1st amendment.
S
SmartQuokka • 129 points
Indeed it is, it also never ceases to amaze me how true that is.
F

That’s why I’m more convinced the trump assassination attempt was a hoax. His reaction to Ilhan Omar just felt like peak *this*
C
Cheap-Rate-8996 • 102 points
This is what makes things like Q and Pizzagate so absurd to me. There are *actual* shenanigans exactly that bad happening in the real world! You don’t need to make shit up.
S
Spindilly • 77 points
My best guess at a reason is “But then I don’t get to feel smart for ‘working out’ something no one else knows! >(” or “Yeah, but then it would be people I LIKE who did the bad things instead of people I hate!”
S
SmartQuokka • 23 points
Its projection.
M
Mrfish31 • 80 points
It really is insane to be able to say to Q people “yes, there is a cabal of paedophiles at the top of government, but it’s mostly *your guys*!”
S
SmartQuokka • 39 points
They pretend its not, trump was set up, he is a martyr, we have faith god is speaking through him and more BS. They want hate at any price.
P
pandaBear_tv • 110 points
it being revealed Epstein talked to the founder of 4chan and basically created /pol gives credence that either he or someone he was feeding info to was Q, i still remember that vice doc about it and was blown away people legit fell for it lol
M
Meechgalhuquot • 83 points
I’ve begun to see theories online in the last few days that Epstein was actually behind Q, if not actually Q himself
S

Very Gossip Girl of him if true
A

Nah we already know who Q was or at least someone who had access to the account

There’s decent evidence that it’s been a few people, with Jim and Ron Watkins being the most likely recent iteration.
C
callsignhotdog • 45 points
Their conspiracy theory about a cabal of global elites abusing children turned out to be kinda true but they can’t celebrate because they elected one of them president.
T
ThirdDragonite • 76 points
These things only disappear for real when the people that follow it start dying off. It demands a very specific kind of person, which is usually also someone who will NEVER admit to being wrong, even when every single fact points to them being wrong.
W
Wombatypus8825 • 123 points
The US is full of hyperindividualistic people who believe utterly in their own righteousness. It’s basically the foundation of Evangelical Christianity. “I cannot possibly be wrong, because if I am wrong, I must be weak and bad.” Being willing to be wrong is an incredible act of strength. I haven’t mastered it yet, but I try everyday.
R
rationalomega • 27 points
Grad school in the sciences forced me to sit with being wrong, feeling stupid, and having a lot to learn *every day*. And I’d been magma cum laude at an Ivy. I wouldn’t wish grad school on anyone but it was good for that one thing lol.

Like the herpes virus, it withdraws and lies dormant in a little pocket somewhere, waiting for a resurgence.

Anger gives you a clarity of purpose that, when you’re generally adrift in life, is second-to-none. And if you’re not a particularly bright or introspective person, that clarity and the confidence that comes with it becomes literally *addictive*.
C

I think it stems from a lack of validation in their real lives. Those forums are full of people just stroking each other’s egos in an orgy of dumbfuckery
C
chevronbird • 55 points
The forums give them community, a hobby, and validation, while also poisoning everything that comes into contact with them.

I guess that’s because the dopamine high you get from something hateful is very much stronger that the one from happy things for some people and then it’s of course addictive. While I am also rational enough to not engage in such behaviours I really have to admit that the dopamine high I get from hateful interactions is stronger than any other emotion I ever felt in my life. Personally I accepted it’s just how my brain is wired and it’s unfortunate but I have to avoid getting this dopamine just like ex drug addicts avoid their biggest high. When something really good happens to me, my brain goes “oh, great… anyway…” and when it’s about aggression and hate it feels like an explosion of feeling strong and good and invincible in my head, it’s really like being high. Has always been like that unfortunately.
P
Pelageia • 21 points
Well, then they will have even more hate to revel in. When everybody is against them, it just proves how right and great they are, true martyrs to the cause. Tells a lot of the situation when even the birth family is like “hell no, we’re done”. With her, I mean, not with the daughter and soon-to-be-ex-son-in-law.

It baffles me too why someone would choose such part, I just hope OP gets custody for his daughter
