The trending interest in “Ash Wednesday mass” can be attributed to its significance as the commencement of the Christian Lenten season, which is a time of reflection and preparation for Easter. This annual observance draws attention as many Christians participate in rituals associated with this event, leading to increased search activity.

Recent reports, such as the coverage by WBRZ, indicate that numerous services and masses are scheduled throughout the day in various locations, particularly in the Capital area. This widespread availability of celebrations likely prompts individuals to seek out specific service times and locations, contributing to the spike in searches.

Moreover, the NOLA.com article highlights a milestone Mass led by new Archbishop James Checchio, signaling its importance to the local community. Such events attract attendees who are eager to participate in significant religious milestones, which further boosts the search interest around Ash Wednesday services in light of local observances.

George Orwell’s nightmare. Regardless of how obscene his views might be, we ought to be alarmed when people are getting locked up for stuff like this.

When it’s as selective as it is. It’s dangerous. How come Wissam Haddad the hate preacher who continually calls for violence against Jews is still walking around?

Should I be allowed to make a speech to the masses in public calling for the death of all gay people and inciting violence against them? Because you know, It’ll be a “slippery slop” if we stop allowing people making public threats against gay people.

Well… since it’s a fundamental part of all three abrahamic religions and is quite literally written in scripture, under your freedom of religious expression, protected under the constitution, yes. This is the stupid thing about protecting ideologies and cultural practices by law. It’s irrational. All behaviour should be subject to the fundamental laws that protect us. You should not be able to use religion, or cultural practices (that includes indigenous) as a force field that allows you to carry on like a fuckwit and threaten the general peace and safety of society with impunity as various groups have been doing.
N

You mean the same George Orwell who went to Spain to fight against Fascists?
N
New-Computer-1988 • 16 points
The same Orwell who dedicated his life to writing extensively about the dangers of thought policing and ‘news speak’… after he fought the fascists.
E
East-Worth2630 • 8 points
It’s **newspeak**, not “news speak” JFC!
Z

Orwell literally went to Spain and shot fascists, how ignorant can you be?

Now charge the clerics screaming it was good Jews were murdered in Israel. The double standard and lack of action is deafening. Fucken gutless legal system we have.
R
ReasonableLemur • 1 points
Yes, and while we’re at it, arrest the president of the country currently ceasing out genocide that’s visiting Australia and perpetuating the myth that all Jews support Israel.

Bunch of people in this comment section need to look up and read about the ‘Paradox of tolerance.’ If the man had called Jews “the greatest enemy” continued spouting symbolism that is genuinely anti-Semetic, then he absolutely should be locked up because he’s trying to rile people into violence against Jews. If someone said that Islamic people were despicable and evil and we should form gangs to find them, they should be locked up. If someone said we should firebomb Christian churches on a Sunday, they should be locked up. If someone uses language and callsigns in an attempt to lead people towards violence against a group based on their race, gender, sexuality, or ethnicity, they should be locked up. Nazism has no place in Australia. Allowing it to spread has been proven again and again to be dangerous, I can site research papers on this if needed. Let it stay underground in the cesspool of the net or nation, it has no place being celebrated.
F
facelessvoid2171 • 10 points
One of your examples is a bloke spouting his abhorrent opinion, the other 3 are calls to violence. No one supports calls to violence. Do you think people should be put in cages for voicing their ‘wrong’ opinions?
N
NeptunianWater • -4 points
>Do you think people should be put in cages for voicing their ‘wrong’ opinions? There is absolutely nothing ‘correct’ about Nazism.
F
facelessvoid2171 • 8 points
I said ‘wrong’, do you think humans should be put in cages for having the ‘wrong’ opinion? Sort of sounds pretty Nazi like tbh
N
NeptunianWater • 1 points
You’re defending Nazism. Yuck.
D
dickchew • 1 points
If by “wrong” you mean inciting violence against a certain group of people and seizing government institutions and resources in order to create an authoritarian ethno state (which what happens when you tolerate fascism and allow it breath). Then yes, those people should absolutely be locked up. We literally have a real fucking life example right in front of us in America right now. We see what happens when fascism is tolerated and allowed to grow. So everyone can absolutely fuck of with the “DuRR iTS JuSt An OpINOn”

You’re joking, right? Calling a group ‘the greatest enemy’ is clearly a dog whistle towards Nazis, and the exact language used to rationalise violence against Jews. If you can’t acknowledge that Nazism is wrong and in need of punishment then there’s no point in engaging further. No, I think that people should be locked up when the language they used is designed to cause violence against other people. That’s clearly what I said. Why are you defending Nazis dude?
O
Odd-Professor-5309 • 7 points
Are there any religions that hate jews and Israel and call for its end ?
T
Tetris102 • -1 points
Yeah, religions call for a lot of weird shit. Doesn’t mean the people following it abide by it. The list of shit Christians can do would be pretty limited otherwise dude.
M
Mclovine_aus • 1 points
How is countering calls to violence and defending the rights of Australians, whether they be Jewish, black, white, etc “defending Nazis” do you lack reading comprehension ?
T
Tetris102 • 1 points
Please explain how using the language maintained by Nazis is countering calls to violence. Calling Jews “the great enemy” is an actual example of anti-Semitism, not thst fake shit the IDF keeps pushing.
M
Mclovine_aus • 1 points
The person that was replied to was countering calls to violence as the start of this comment chain > If someone said that Islamic people were despicable and evil and we should form gangs to find them, they should be locked up. How is forming a gang, finding people and locking them up not a call to violence. > Calling Jews “the great enemy” is an actual example of anti-Semitism Yes, no shit who is saying otherwise, you are fighting a strawman.

So what about ‘the Chinese are the west’s greatest threat’? Should humans be out in cages for that opinion? Or maybe ‘there are no innocent Palestinians?’ Is that a dog whistle worth the cage? Or is that worth 50 car escort of the greatest nation on earth?
T
Tetris102 • 1 points
I’m not a Zionist, Israel is committing warcrimes. The fact that we had someone here complicit in it is, as far as I’m concerned, a source of national shame. Top one is clearly contextual. “Greatest threat to Aussie way of life.” Problematic. “Greatest threat to economic dominance.” Fine. Humans should not be allowed to say things that promote the targetted and systematic killing of people based on race, gender, religion or anything. This shouldn’t be controversial. This whole cages thing part of the algorithm is it?

Paradox of tolerance, is a paradox there is no perfect answer, you might agree with the conclusion that Kuhn or Popper but that doesn’t mean we can’t go the opposite way or a different way. For instance you seem to take it all the way to calls to violence, which is a terrible thing to advocate for. The government should not restrict our rights and should enable discussion and criticism. Those with abhorrent views will easily be squashed by those with better views since at the end of the day this guys views are not defensible, they don’t have any sound reasoning. Effort instead should be put towards stoping violence and improving the material conditions. Extreme authoritarian ideologies like fascism and communism seem to rise when the working class is destroyed by rampant inequality and economic uncertainty. Fix the problems with liberalism, embrace better welfare and healthcare and then the working class will not support those ideologies. TLDR; open discussion and unrestricted sharing of ideas via free speech and fixing the material conditions will ensure we keep a democratic and tolerant society, other ways including eroding our rights as you suggest will just lead us closer to an intolerant authoritarian society.
T
Tetris102 • 1 points
History shows you are wrong because you are fighting against someone who doesn’t believe in democracy or reasoned debate. The views don’t win out because they’re harder to maintain (it’s easy to say there’s a bogeyman than to say the DOW Jones has at this moment made purchasing costs go up). I agree with increasing liberties, but not insofar as we allow the targetted persecution of people based on race, religion, gender, sex etc.

Complete joke. Got people in committing rapes and serious armed robberies doing less time. Watch out, today him, tomorrow you. ‘But it’ll never happen to me, I wont say the wrong thing!’
T
TraditionalShame8328 • 13 points
Yep an immigrant got 2mths for grape. But dkhead Aussies think this is good. Authoritarian gov no free speech a year in jail is ridiculous.
T
TimidPanther • 8 points
It’s rape. If you can’t say the word, you’re not mature enough to discuss it. It’s a serious crime. Show it the respect it deserves.
W
whimperingMessy • -3 points
I think you don’t have a grasp on the justice system if you think armed robberies are getting less than a year. It’s not hard to not be a nazi, you were losers back then, you’re still losers now
R
robbitybobs • 3 points
Ironic. Id say you’re the one out of touch, or just seriously naive considering I work in the justice system and see these sentences regularly. Ok bud.
D

Yeah man, I’m sure they’re letting nazis into law enforcement, good one. And I’m actually the prime minister. False claims aside, it takes one google search to prove your dumbass wrong. No one is getting a year for armed robbery
R
robbitybobs • 4 points
Are you implying I’m a nazi because I think a year prison sentence for a speech is ridiculous when we have rapists and robbers serving less? You see dangerous driving causing death getting less than a year in jail. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Proven that you have to google it because you don’t have first hand experience. Of course, whimperingmessy the coward blocked me, apparently pointing out inconsistencies in sentencing now makes you a nazi.

Look at you, standing up and supporting a neo Nazi. What a waste of Australian citizenship you are.
O
OpalOriginsAU • 3 points
Others here support Hamas and intafada and robbitybobs has a valid point there are better ways the police could be using their resources other than wasting their time with dickhead hamas protestors and nazi wankers
R
radred609 • 2 points
Rapists should probably serve more time. Bit that doesn’t mean Nazis should serve *less*
O
OpalOriginsAU • 4 points
Not condoning it , just want the same measure applied to Intafada lobbiests like Grace Tame , I know she isnt the full quid but that doesnt justify her calling for a global uprising and as bad if not far worse than what the nazi dick was inciting
R
radred609 • 1 points
Haha, I’ve seen you post some pretty cringe stuff here… but you’re right on this one. Unfortunately, a lot of my fellow lefties have a pretty major blindspot when it comes to dogwhistles from their own side. None of them would let you get away with saying “Mein Kampf” just means “my struggle” (and rightfully so), but as soon as someone calls to “globalise the intifada” they whip out the exact same argument.
O
OpalOriginsAU • 2 points
You are on the money , I can see the hypocrisy Cringe Lol …Im not radical, I sit right of centre, nowhere near far right , self employed all me life so have to go where i need I cant stand echo chambers and always have an open to discussion and have an open mind and have changed my position on some shit , not much though I do vote ON and am called a racist here, but I just laugh it off , if they knew me bloodline they would to. I am in Maranoa and the only option is littleproud or ON so nomatter where I vote it goes to LNP unless i do donkey vote
R
radred609 • 1 points
I never said you were radical, just that i think some of your takes are a bit cringe… you’d probably say the same thing about some of mine though, so 🤷 > Self employed all my life It took me a while to get there myself, but congrats either way 🙂 > If they knew my bloodline In my experience, Blackfellas are just as capable of being racist as whitefellas… or any other fellas for that matter. > littleproud or ON Oooft, that’s a rough choice, ngl 🤣
