The topic of “flash flood warning” is trending now primarily due to severe weather events occurring in Southern California, particularly in Los Angeles. Recent reports indicate that the National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings in response to heavy rainfall that has already resulted in significant flooding incidents in the area. The issuance of these warnings typically generates increased public interest as people seek timely information on weather conditions that may affect their safety.

Local news coverage highlights ongoing issues, such as vehicles being stalled in flooded intersections in West Los Angeles, which draws attention to the practical implications of the heavy rain. As the storm intensifies, the urgency for local residents to understand the risks associated with flash flooding prompts them to search for relevant information frequently. The dramatic nature of the flooding events and the direct impact on everyday life in the city are key factors driving the high search volume.

Additionally, there are specific concerns regarding burn scar areas, as highlighted by reports from LAist. The combination of heavy rainfall over these vulnerable regions raises the potential for dangerous flash floods, which prompts residents to seek out warnings and safety information. This particular focus on both the effects of the rainfall and the heightened risks associated with recent wildfires contributes to the surge in searches related to flash flood warnings.

Thank you for hosting despite your busy schedule! I hope you get lots of rest soon! I think I would have preferred a better blend of the novel and the drama. There were some lines from the novel I really wanted to see in the drama, including the ones you mentioned. Xiahou Dan’s weary line about *repaying all his debts once he’s in hell* is so powerful and telling because, even though he insists the people in this world are “2D characters,” their deaths clearly weigh heavily on his conscience, as you said. I also wanted the moment where he realizes *he broke his promise that Wanyin would never have to change.* As the novel states, *in trying to protect her from pain, he ironically stripped her of the right to grieve*. Including these would have given us a deeper glimpse into Xiahou Dan’s mind and made the later confrontation scene even more heartwrenching imo. I also wish the drama had kept Wang Zhao’s funeral and Wanyin visiting Cen Jintian with Xiao Tiancai as separate events, like the donghua did. As you know, in the novel, Xiahou Dan couldn’t attend the funeral because he was dealing with the Empress Dowager’s faction and still recovering from the poisoning, but he knew about it and let Wanyin go. She returned afterwards and told him about Jintian’s condition, and that’s when he told her not to leave the palace for now. Neither of them was completely right or wrong imo— they were just prioritizing different things. The drama making Xiahou Dan unwilling to let Wanyin attend makes him seem more unreasonable, and Wanyin’s reasons for accompanying Xiao Tiancai weren’t fully explained. I understand why they merged the events, probably for time constraints, and why Xiao Tiancai’s character was changed to be more loyal to Xiahou Dan and Wanyin rather than just Yonger. *Facing her with a cold smile, XHD said that the best way for her to learn her lesson was to punish the people around her.* It’s such a chilling and deeply personal moment for Xiahou Dan 😭 especially watching how Xiahou Bo and his other study companions were punished on his behalf. I really enjoyed this change, and I love Cheng Lei’s portrayal of the scene and Xiahou Dan’s mental state 💔 I’m torn between the drama and the novel. I liked how drama Wanyin had more faith in Xiahou Dan and noticed something was off, leading her to find him, see the ropes on his wrists, and witness the devastating effects of his “madness.” But I also appreciated the novel’s Bei Zhou visit after her confinement, reassuring her that Jintian and the others were safe and revealing Xiahou Dan’s reaction when her fate was uncertain. I also loved the scene after her nightmare, where Xiahou Dan takes ownership and reassures her that the shadow guards and others are safe. I just wish the drama had made that clearer in episode 24, since, I guess, it wasn’t very obvious, and some others feel the same on MDL. If I could combine both, I’d keep Bei Zhou’s reassuring visit without—unlike the novel—needing Wanyin to prompt it, then have her fall into a restless sleep and dream of Xiahou Dan as the tyrant from the novel (we’d also get more tyrant Cheng Lei scenes 👀). When she wakes, she realizes *her* Xiahou Dan isn’t that tyrant. So she takes the initiative to find him like in the drama, witnesses the ropes on his wrists, the mess in his chambers, and during the exchange, Xiahou Dan takes ownership and verbally reassures her that the shadow guards and others are fine (and Wanyin takes ownership as well, acknowledging that she shouldn’t have left the palace and how it played into Prince Duan’s hands). I really appreciated how the drama kept this—both characters taking responsibility for their actions without making excuses 👏👏 Sorries! I didn’t mean for this to turn into a mini essay :’) Thank you again for hosting!! I’m really enjoying your recaps! (eta typos)

Your version sounds great! While watching, as someone who hadn’t read the novel, I was hoping that Bei Zhou would visit her to reveal Dan’s behavior when she was in danger. It’s gratifying to hear that the author had the same thought.

Episode 24 is, by far, my favorite single episode of any drama I’ve ever watched! This episode definitely took me on a rollercoster ride of emotions- from scary tension in the carriage with Prince Duan to Cheng Lei feeding me toxic, crazy, domineering tyrant and then crazy out of control tyrant… 👌 just so beautifully done! Finally, a good side eye scene AND a morning after smirk! Plus… skinship! 🫠 I’m guessing this half torso scene is the closest we’ll be getting to a bath scene with this drama. 😭 it’s not over yet so I’m still holding out hope!

Speaking of he Prince Duan flashback, he said he’d waited for 10 years. So I was confused. When I started the show, I thought Zhang San had been in this world for 10-12 years. But sometimes I’d see comments say 15 or 16 years even. It was 10 years then?!
R
Relevant_Tiger_5547 • 1 points
Novel details: >! He transmigrated 15 or 16 years ago. And created the SOS flower about 10 years prior. Zhang San transmigrated to a 6 year old body. I think he only thought of burying the flowers as a young teen. At that time he was starting to be aware that maybe the transmigrated Consort was not his father’s Consort but his own. !<

Thank you for sharing, OP. Happy CNY! I’m having so much fun with the drama even though I couldn’t follow it daily due to electricity issues in my area. Binge watching it tonight was really fun. I hope they maintain it till the end with just six episodes left. I guess I’m the only one who isn’t upset at Wanyin for visiting the scholars. I understand that someone had to focus on the big picture and Dan’s reasoning made so much sense. But like Wanyin, I couldn’t bear the thought of Wang Zhao being buried without any of them being present or Cen dying without his final wish granted. It was a risky period for everyone but seeing Yu Wanyin show up for them was really moving. It’s so heartwarming that she also visited Cen before going back too. They’re 2D characters but they’re also real humans who needed their presence at that point. It’s a seemingly foolish decision but the significance of that visit matters more to them. Prince Duan just keeps getting creepier and creepier. That carriage scene felt so suffocating, like why was the whole journey long? Why does he have so many lines? 😭 Oh and the short-lived angst(damn, I wanted it to last longer tbh). The acting from both leads in that scene was incredible. I knew he was upset but choosing to punish her in that way? especially after seeing how broken she was when Mei died… that was really terrifying. That’s probably my favorite scene so far. it was perfect. If only they dragged it a little bit more… (I’m sucker for angsty plot 🙈) I saw a preview of ep 27 and I’m not surprised cause the foreshadowing was right there. Everything’s been amazing so far. no dull parts for me and I hope it’ll remain that way.

Yes, it would have been great with prolonged angst after XHD went full tyrant mode. Prince Duan is so detestable ‘I must have the best woman’ – now I hope it’s the FL who gets to finish him off in the end. Just eww.

https://i.redd.it/m32v86fsmxjg1.gif Everyone seems obsessed with the red fur-trimmed coat, so I want to rave that Cheng Lei looks just as stunning in gray. I love that Dan shows up at the empress dowager’s chamber in her final moments while he’s looking like a GQ model. He’s thriving, moisturized, making sure the dowager knows his own empress wife is banging him, and rubbing it in that he’s already planning to sire his heir. There are so many layers to being vengeful and vicious, and this man nails them all.

Oh the grey one deserved its spot too! I agree! I remember rewatching today and thought damn that looks so fluffy, so soft! 😅😅🤤🤤😍. The grey and black looked so good on him! Bwahaha the showing off to that evil Empress Dowager. I was eating it all up. He was all for that payback, and it was so good!

Thanks OP for this discussion. I had forgotten you were traveling because these two episodes made me so nervous. But no worries! And thanks for your recap because I understand some things I had missed and that were confusing me. Omg. I’m mad at both of them. For FL for leaving the palace despite the danger (although I know her love is deep for the scholars even if 2D) to herself and to Dan. And for Dan because he hasn’t told her everything yet. It will help her to understand his madness if she knows how traumatized he is/was. Dan being so cruel and his madness was so unnerving. And there seemed to be some weird editing too. At first I thought he was pretending (like she did in the carriage with evil prince) and it was a gut punch to see PTSD grab him by the neck and throw him around so that he lost it. Ok now off to watch ep 25. Jeez.

B
BasilOrdinary3617 • 1 points
Enjoy 25! I feel ya about being mad at both. She was way too confident about leaving the palace. She could’ve put the scholars in danger too if Prince Duan found them. And for Dan – at this point, I don’t get why he hasn’t told her although he is less cautious about revealing things he can only possibly know if he has been there before Wanyin showed up. I wonder if she was picking up on them. In the vertical drama, Dan tells Wanyin that he’s been there for 16 years during the assassination on Mount Bei.
R
ravens_path • 1 points
Ohhhhh I forgot about danger to the scholars too. Yikes. They could’ve explained all to the scholars later so they could understand why they could not attend in those moments. And visit the graves and mother later too. And I agree with others that neither apologized well enough or long enough to each other yet.

A note about XHD explaining to the empress dowager how he’ll dispose of the crown prince: the English subs are as always not so accurate/detailed, but he’s saying his son will become a 王爷 (wangye/prince, but not directly in line to the throne), which is a demotion because so far the kid has been 太子 (taizi aka crown prince/chosen heir). So he is directly cutting his son off from inheriting the throne. I think that being forced to guard the tomb of your grandparent is also a traditional way of forcing someone into seclusion. You basically dedicate yourself to serving your dead relative for the rest of your life (I think – I’m not 100% sure, but someone being compelled/forced to guard the tomb of their grandparent or parent does regularly feature in these drama and in books – it’s a way of getting rid of someone without outright killing them). So XHD is undoing his stepmother’s careful work by disinheriting his son.
T
TheAlchemist420 • 1 points
Thank you for explaining it all. That is what I understood. Sometimes I can’t trust the subtitles so I listen more carefully. I just love how he needed to tell her how he would undo all her hard work. It was so good. Brick by brick. And he had to lay it out for her. I have seen the guarding mausoleum storyline a few times. And by doing so, it cuts of the chance for that Prince to legitimately sit on the throne. They recently did it in Fated Hearts. The newly appointed Emperor abdicated the throne and went to guard his mother’s tomb (Empress Dowager), thus preventing him from ever being able to rule again.

Thanks for the info on young crown prince. Although I feel bad for this poor young prince, he has been corrupted and might not be able to reform and heal. Unless he can do that, he will also be a danger to ML and FL.

Thanks Herc and damn China Southern Airlines! Hope you got a good rest when you landed. This is my first time watching Cheng Lei and woah he really nailed that tyrant act when WanYin came back, that look in his eyes and the way he was speaking. Gosh what a performance. Btw does anyone have any idea why Eunuch An is so loyal to XHD? It seems that he was pretty isolated by the Empress Dowager and he didn’t have anyone he can trust but Eunuch A seems be super loyal and trustworthy. Is it explained anywhere in the novel? I wouldn’t mind being spoilt for that or does it come up later somewhere?
A
a_HerculePoirot_fan • 1 points
In the novel, his loyalty is largely out of fear rather than true loyalty or affection for XHD. He even accepts a bribe from Consort Shu to create an encounter with XHD.

On a sidenote, I’m almost caught up on the donghua version, and while it’s good, it also made me realized how much better the drama version is. Seriously, so much nuance to the characters, all those little details. In fact this drama has been so good up until this point (I’m on ep 25 now) that I’m started to get seriously nervous they might do something to mess it up in the final episodes. Fingers crossed they can stay strong and even get through the hurdle that is censorship of transmigration drama endings!

Same. Hopefully something fun comes along next. I dropped ***Unveiled: Jadewind*** for ***How Dare You!?***, and it seems I made the right call. I rarely watch more than one currently airing drama at a time.

I had to as well. I don’t know much about *Generation to Generation* but I’m also hoping for something lighter, along the lines of *Legend of the Female General*. *Fated Hearts*, *Glory*, and this one have kept me on my toes.

***Generation to Generation*** isn’t on everyone’s radar which is exactly why I chose to volunteer for it back in July last year. I can use a calm drama. I haven’t read the novel, so I can’t say for sure whether it’s wuxia or xuanhuan. I first saw Zhou Yiran as a supporting character in ***The Legend of Zhuohua***, and I knew then that I had to cover one of his dramas once he returned to costume subgenres.

Sorry about your flight OP – it’s so annoying when that happens. These two episodes were packed with great scenes, and honestly, I was pretty much on XHD’s side through almost all of them, even when he turned tyrant and/or crazy. The thing is, even though I understand why Wanyin felt obliged to go to Wang Zhao’s memorial service and to visit scholar Cen for (probably) the last time, Dan was right in forbidding her from going. They’ve been so careful all this time, and there are much larger things at stake than the hurt feelings of the scholars (who would have understood if she and the emperor didn’t show up). For XHD it’s even more than just the fragile political stability – he literally cannot go on without Wanyin (and it’s sad that at this point she doesn’t know just how much he needs her to survive). I almost screamed at her when she showed up at the funeral – because of course Duan would catch her, and she acted completely recklessly. I do admire her quick thinking in the carriage scene – I love that our FL is always smart and capable, even in extremely stressful situations. And Duan, yikes, I already hate that guy with a burning passion, but he was soo creepy in that scene. Kudos to the actor, he’s doing well with a character that so far is really just a generic villain. I question the whole thing with Duan’s mom and whether XHD’s mom really killed her. But no matter what, his actions towards little XHD are unforgivable. I was a bit disappointed by Zhang San not actually killing the maid in this version, but it makes sense for someone like Duan trying to spy on him with underhanded methods. And there’s the censorship issue ofc – probably can’t have the ML outrigth kill an innocent person (I’m sure Duan got rid of her anyway). XHD on his knee crying and begging Bei Zhou to save Wanyin – that was a rough watch, but damn if Cheng Lei isn’t a good actor. The drama is so much better for him being the lead. Another banger scene – XHD going into full tyrant mode and Wanyin realizing something is very wrong with him. I admit I enjoyed how twisted he was acting. I mean, I feel bad for the guards who just followed Waynin’s orders, but he had a point – if he punish Wanyin (which he wouldn’t be able to do anyway since he can’t bear hurting her), it wouldn’t deter her a second time. But if he punishes others for her wrongs, she might learn. This is also Zhang San coming full circle and doing to others what was done to him. He knows better than anyone how much of a deterrent this method can be. It’s not right, but he’s angry because he was so scared for her, and let’s face it, strategically she acted incredibly stupid. At this point, letting their feelings rule them can get both of them killed, Wanyin SHOULD know this. I’m glad they made up (and finally did the deed! They could use an outlet for all that build-up stress LOL), but part of me was disappointed there wasn’t more consequences for either person’s actions. The harem scenes were cute, but honestly at this point I’m quite done with the other concubines, I’d rather just have scenes with our lovely couple. And I wish we’d gotten a more grand declaration of Wayin being declared empress. I’m guessing (based on the scene during the credits) that she hasn’t been crowned yet and we’ll get that scene near the end? The empress dowager dying – I wished they had prolonged her suffering, but at least we got a couple of scenes of her being paralyzed and helpless. The crown prince – I partly feel bad for the brainwashed kid, partly I’m siding with XHD in strangling the kid – he committed treason by attacking the emperor and empress, and at this point XHD cannot lose Wanyin. Sorry kid, you dug your own grave.

Snark Level: ……..High. I am running a fever and chills! Yay me! 23 – – – — – – – – – Motherfucker looks dapper AF in this red trimmed coat! Yummy! That’s my mad Emperor daddy! How I love Yong’er these days. She really is a fun character. If anything happens to her… Can these two STOP GETTING INTERRUPTED when they are getting spicy? XD giving her clear and logical reasons to not do anything stupid. So obviously she’s going to do something stupid. Oh, look! She did something stupid! Oh look! An ambush! Who would have ever seen that coming? Oh, right! The Emperor did! Wow! You’re so stupid, YWY! YWY is stupid! YWY is stupid! YWY is stupid! Tut tut tut. All you had to do was listen to some good advice. But no, you didn’t. How typical. Watch the writers retcon this into another shared scheme to get one over Prince Dickhead so it makes YWY look smart instead of stupid. Whatever. It was stupid. SHIT!!!!!! The credits were playing while I was typing this and I saw someone on a >!log raft!<.... Motherfucker!!! Oh I am going to be writing so much snark and shit about this show really soon, aren't I? The one time I don't skip.... 24 - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - Prince Dickhead is such a boring villain. What a waste of finger energy to type him, paper to read him, eyes to watch him, brain to think about him. YWY must really be tired of living if she risked her life for this scheme that is probably just her own stupidity for not listening to XD. God I hate it when characters do stupid shit like this. It's so tropy and boring. Be smart and logical. I have no sympathy for him as a child or an adult. He chose the path of dumbshit. He literally should have been killed as a child. Kind of a weird that ED didn't kill him. Oh look. Her stupidity knows no bounds. Now the guns have been confirmed and that's going to be used against you later... because you're stupid. Sooo XD is going to chew her ass out, right? She better sit there in her wrongness and be wrong for how wrong she is. OH SO YOU KNOW HOW STUPID IT WAS AND YOU DID IT ANYWAY? HOLY SHIT, YOU'RE EXTRA STUPID, YOU STUPID STUPIDHEAD! I am loving that he ordered their deaths. Obviously that's going to create a rift between them, but she should know by now that actions have consequences. I feel zero sympathy for her here. This isn't just about your life or his life or some dead friend who is already dead. This literally concerns the fate of an entire fucking Kingdom. Get that through your fucking skull. He is being unbelievably cruel here. Makes me think it was a scheme again... Or he's going off the deep end because how deathly afraid he is to lose her. Whoa. She's thinking logically using facts? Wild. That was a short lived angst period. YES YOU DID FUCK ALL THAT UP, GIRL! WE PRAISE YOU FOR KNOWING AND ADMITING YOUR FAULTS!!!!! <3 YWY is smart! YWY is logical! YWY admits her faults! YWY is a true angel of grace! We love YWY! Okay, now that both of them are apologizing and shit, can the whole truth come out now? Bro needs to tell her all of that shit. You know what... This is shit. They are way too loving and logical! This means that if there won't be angst and separation drama.... then it's going to be a heart stabbing depressing ending coming very soon.... Anytime you have a show where the couples are loving and logical... It's doom and death for an ending. BRO! AN ASSASSIN??? THAT'S THE LAMEST EXCUSE EVER!!! An assassin of love, you mean... Ya boinked!!!!](https://media4.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExbHB0cWxmdm94eDFobDhqemFlZnNzdnhhb3QzYjRjcnBnOHV0ejlxdSZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/DUWNdATfU6SjheQ9dv/giphy.gif) [Poor baby face doc trying to figure this out](https://media2.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExcDFvbXZlb2hqcW1rNmo5ZnBhcHY2azRvazc5bHVrcDl1bHZlZDBrbCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/OuCyXvh2ymrSTsWFmi/giphy.gif) [Her reaction is sending me!](https://media4.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExM3h1eHFmcXFtZG12YTh3c2d3NXIxd3FpbWxhNHIzOXdjajFwbmQxeSZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/FDBz2IVlcwZ9ExbqE0/giphy.gif) EMPRESS!!!! YASSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! A whole exercise class? These are the reforms I can get behind! Oh no! This is so hilarious! Why did I think he was about to take them all on in a tug of war? :P Oh good. Now you can kill the crown prince. OH FUCK YES!!!! STRANGLE THAT LITTLE BITCH!!!! I love that this show is actually giving consequences to people. Miss me with those weak little fuckers that won't go asswhooping on someone who hurt their loved ones. If you're going to be a mad emperor, be a mad emperor. Shit, am I actually going to praise the writers for their willingness to have the ML be brutal? I guess I am! This is some real red flag shit. This is the kind of red flag I can actually support. Red flag to his enemies, but green flag to his lady. (I will conveniently forget the whole part where he grounded her...and killed her guards).

Train whistle steaming. I can totally hear it. But she saw the error of her ways. I still loved that she went to see the guys off. I really do. Unfortunately consequences…. and it could have gone so wrong. I want to think we will be having the happy ending this couple deserve. We must. I can’t have botched ending for this show. Not after Glory. I saw the trailer for 27 and I was left in tears. So yeah. We are going through it with this show. My gosh! I’m going to need to get an extra seatbelt for this ride. I actually love this new Yong’er and her “bubbly energy” and am putting her in my protective bubble along with the scholars now. I have to agree with Dan it was too dangerous for Wanyin to go. I had a strong feeling Prince Duan would indeed find her so Dan unfortunately had a huge “I told you so” moment. I thought Cheng Lei mastered his acting in these episodes and Eunuch An was VIP with his subtlety stopping Bei from revealing herself (as well as his little snicker at how Dan’s wound opened up again). Thanks for sharing the novel version. I think I actually prefer the drama version where she goes to Dan because she knows he’s not a tyrant. The way, despite her emotions, can be clear-headed enough to go see him, tend to him, and apologize for having put them both in jeopardy. Hope you get some restful time now Herc, after the long flights!! Thanks for the recaps while traveling!

I haven’t seen all the episodes yet, but is there already an update on whether Scholar Cen’s agri science books are safe? I assume Xiahou Bo set up the fake bandit attack largely to investigate the firearm design. My main concern is that Scholar Cen’s research doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Yes, what on earth happened to those books?! I sure hope Wanyin got them back safely to the palace, that stressed me out so much during the last episode that no one mentioned them after she and XHD made up. Who care about harem games? I’d much rather know that scholar Cen’s works didn’t get lost!
W
winterchampagne • 1 points
Yeah, hopefully Dan’s shadow guards brought back Wanyin’s broken carriage and kept the books safe. One thing I’ve learned from watching costume Cdramas is that dissenting court factions often scheme aggressively during droughts and famines, trying to bring down the emperor since poor governance can turn a crisis into a catastrophe.
B
BasilOrdinary3617 • 1 points
Yes u/Ateosira and I were chatting about this. I assume he didn’t find them because he was too focused on threatening Wanyin. And I think he might’ve believed her that she was out scouting an escape route from the palace… maybe. Can’t tell for sure…

Compared to how the novel version sound, I also think the drama version is better. Wanyin was in the wrong and she needs to be the adult about it. And I love how she admitted that she needs him (almost) as much as he needs her. That they keep each other sane in this brutal and crazy world they’ve landed in.
