I’m not a hero, but when I got to the level of EQP and bishopric, I didn’t like the vibe and got off that corporate train. I think the cognitive dissonance gets really powerful when you see behind the curtain, even at the stake level. I used to deliberately refer to ‘President Spencer Kimball’ or ‘Elder Richard Scott’, but quickly got “corrected” in stern tones: “Its Spencer **W.** Kimball”, etc. It was almost seen to be blasphemous to not use their middle initial. I still did! Even worse than the middle initial nonsense is the use of a first initial – such as D. Todd Christofferson, or M. Russell Ballard, etc. Who in the world goes by their first initial then their second name?? “Hi, I’m **R. John Brown**”. Its bizarre. Only in Mormonland.
