Records say police were able to identify McKee through neighborhood video surveillance. He was reportedly tracked to a vehicle that arrived just prior to the shootings and left shortly after. Detectives were able to identify the vehicle and link it to McKee, according to court records. Local person. CPD is widely known as being inept, so it’s not a far stretch for those of us who live here to not have faith in them. I’m extremely glad they will be able to bring justice to this couple and their loved ones, including those 2 beautiful kids. I am seriously shocked that it is him. Reddit called it. After 9 years, no kids, a couple states away…why? It’s all so horribly tragic. Well done by CPD, though. Credit where it’s due.

After hearing the welfare check transcripts, and finding out that the cops went to the wrong house for at least one welfare check, I can understand why there would be an impression of incompetence by the CPD! Many who kill don’t care if they get caught because, for them, re-living the act, even if it’s behind bars, brings a sort of euphoria. That’s why I think the death penalty should be brought back everywhere so these monsters don’t get to replay and re-live the horrific act they committed.

I will say that someone who murders his ex wife of like 10 years and her husband could definitely be arrogant enough to think he would get away with murder, even though he drove his car there, was on surveillance, and was naturally someone the police would suspect. Or he could be someone, like you point out, who feels justified and expects to be caught.

Take this with a grain of salt but that vile POS Chris Watts said he didn’t think about what happens after the murders. He got fixated on carrying out the murders and had convinced himself everything would be fine. So, sometimes getting caught doesn’t really cross their minds, at least with any serious thought given to it.

I think that’s often part of the “it’ll be fine” mindset. Chris Watts saw no value in the lives of Shannan, their daughters, or his unborn son, so he was able to convince himself that he would get away with killing them some which way, because he didn’t comprehend that people would really care about what happened to them, or that Shannan’s bestie would raise the alarm when she missed her OBGYN appointment the next morning, or that his neighbor would immediately show a cop his security cam footage. All he cared about was himself.

We also need to remember that we are looking at this and analyzing it from the point of view of normal people who don’t go around murdering people. Us, as normal, rational people- think about actions and consequences. People that are capable of carrying out double murders aren’t rational. It’s not rational for him to think he would get away with this, but it’s also not rational to murder two people and leave 2 children parentless and traumatized for life. It really is maddening when trying to make sense of these cases.

They certainly have a way of sneaking into positions of trust specifically to satisfy their evil desires. I have seen it a lot in my chosen field of education. To clarify, medical students are more professionally mentally scrutinized compared to the general population. The result of ongoing mental assessment is that wicked manipulators are often dismissed from the program before earning the privilege to practice medicine. Unfortunately, the exceptional ones, perhaps the most dangerous, are the ones who go the distance. Very scary stuff. Again, I’m sorry. I was wrong not to be more clear throughout my original post. I figured it wasn’t the ex because Spencer was shot more times, and since both of them were killed they can’t look at the spouse as the typical first suspect. This guy was the OBVIOUS suspect to look at. Plus he had an amazing job that he would have worked his entire life for, would he really throw it all away? Must have just been blinded by jealous rage. Their life did look picture perfect, especially in the wedding video, so I did sort of have a feeling that it was someone who was seething at that. Just didn’t think it was going to be so obvious…

I mean, I thought it was very possible, but I wasn’t gonna get online and start accusing the guy just because ex husbands often kill. A lot of times I think people forget these aren’t locked-door mysteries, you aren’t given a closed universe of characters, one of whom is guilty, and you just need to point the finger at the guilty one. I don’t know these people. For all I knew, they could’ve had a dispute with a neighbor, or he could’ve fired an employee, or she had an ex boyfriend between her divorce and her remarriage or any number of things that can create obvious motives, once you know about them. Like, we knew she had an ex husband because divorce records are public records. But there’s lots of stuff that’s not public record. People were accusing the boss who made the 911 call and the BIL because they picked a limited cast of characters based on anything online and made theories, not through actual investigation.
