Pretty obvious. He wasn’t gonna play both of a B2B and getting a extra day is good and playing the wolves makes the chances of a win in both games higher

I was very optimistic going into the trade deadline and now I question whether we will even make the playoffs
B

They’ll make it simply because so many teams don’t want to make it.

are there any standout players to look out for in the late first round? this is supposedly a deep draft, but they all look like pretty standard late first/early second round prospects so far lol
F
Feelscreative101 • 1 points
Many. I like Mullins and Haugh the most. Other prospects I like for late 1st/early 2nd: -Steinbach -Yessoufou -Chinyelu (2nd) -Amari Allen -Swain -Karim Lopez -Cenac Jr -Cameron Carr -Morez Johnson (2nd) -Darrion Williams (2nd)

Draft looks really deep, there’s plenty of options in the 20-30 range depending on what the FO wants to go for They should aim for a front court player imo, dudes like Dailyn Swain or Amari Allen, Allen Graves is another name that’s been thrown around, same with Morez Johnson jr (these four are forwards) Several centers too in the range and first portion of the second round

There’s a ton. This is the best draft in my sports watching lifetime (since 2010ish). I’m completely sold on michigans entire starting frontcourt. Watch them against Cam Boozer tomorrow and see for yourself. It’s the best frontcourt since the early 2010s Kentucky teams, with 3 of the top 8 in the country in BPM. And they could all fall out of the lottery

Since we’re firing off doomer/unpopular takes: Hinkie’s firing was justified Spending $600 million to build another team around Joel wasn’t smart Using a first to dump Horford was an average at best move The assets from the harden trade were subpar Availability/health matters more than talent among the top 5-7 players Joel hasn’t been better than Jokic since 2019 The Houston pick will likely either have a very low ceiling or won’t contribute for 2 years We’re closer to a Maxey trade request than anyone wants to admit This sub wouldn’t give a fuck about Josh Harris’s “travel” if they liked him or the team won more VJ will waste the first half of his career here in an Iggy type situation Joel lost the Boston series in ‘23, true MVP would’ve stepped up at the end of G7 vs Atlanta Barlow is a deep bench player in over his head The McCain pick(not trade) should be talked about as a fuck up that is hopefully corrected

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/02kJBgIW7SA Nick Nurse saying today what I just said: They need a faster, up-tempo offense. And that honestly means more than just Maxey/VJ. They need someone else to run, fill lanes, and force the defense to be stressed.
M
mberko21 • 1 points
Embiid has also been saying this, even saying for them to run more even when he’s on the court
T
ThatBull_cj • 3 points
Tuff to play fast without Joel and PG and then just change it up with them. Not really a sustainable thing. Either way we don’t have the passing and drivers for that
F

Revisionist much. You have never said anything like that, pls show proof. You’ve been harping on about shooting, and that’s it.

Just hoping for a Rockets meltdown. Maybe the pick ends up 20 instead of 25.

KD has been treated awful by the media with all this “twitter nonsense” as he said. I think he should sit out the rest of the season to prove a point. Philly will be in solidarity with you KD.

You can feel this team collapsing, trading McCain seemed to rip them apart.. Im done wasting my time watching them, the product stinks
B

Front office isnt serious. Just one terrible max contract after another. Embiid is never healthy long enough nor clutch enough in the last few minutes for this team to ever amount to anything.

What are yall thoughts about Sam Cassell as head coach in the event that Nurse is fired this offseason? Would’ve wanted David Adelman but Nuggets fired their HC and promoted him first Sam seems passionate, is familiar with Maxey and Embiid and he’s been with the Celtics for three years so he knows how they roll and could probably bring some of that here

Sam Cassell: “Nick Nurse over me?”
N
Next_Phase_Life • 3 points
I’m just curious why he hasn’t been a head coach by now. I wouldn’t be thrilled tbh. I like the idea of getting a young dude like the Spurs, Celtics, Thunder. I don’t even mind if they’re not a savant their first year – I’d just want to be an organization that has some conviction when they hire someone and gives them some grace, unlike the organizations that hire retreads and change coaches every 2-3 years. Actually that’s exactly what the Sixers are doing at the moment with Doc Rivers and now Nurse.
L

Sometimes I forget our “General Manager”(in name only) is a former all star. Front office has a collective tech bro feel to it sprinkled with rejected Succession characters
M

So I went and watched Cade’s assists(had 13 of them) and I have to say: Its nice to have guys who can hit outside shots(at least 5 of them were 3’s), but here’s the other component: They have guys who can actually run the floor. I’ve thought this for a while now, but our transition offense has been BAD the last month or so and it’s easy to see why: When the Pistons run the fast break, guys run their lanes, it gives Cade options to work with and it overwhelms a defense. The Sixers transition offense? Is Maxey/VJ and not much else. And so the key to stopping their transition offense is as simple as: Stop the basketball. Oubre’s not really a “fill the lane” type. Barlow kind of fits that mold(sort of, if you squint), but that leads to the other issue: They’re not getting the steals/deflections to get out and run. Bona’s next step as a shot blocker will be blocking shots in a way to keep the ball in play, so we can generate numbers. If the 76ers are insistent on running a non-3pt shooting offense, then their goal should be to acquire an elite rim-running, transition creating type of player. Luckily, one such player does exist: Zion Williamson(Pelicans). Zion would give us that boost in transition that we’d need and the athleticism we’re lacking too. Jumper is ‘eh’ at best, but his playmaking is decent when he’s on the floor.

If everything Morey’s done is wrong(and it has been), maybe it’s time to take the opposite approach?
M
MaskedBirder • 7 points
The Pistons aren’t a good three-point shooting team, they just like playing against the Knicks. Their end of game offense is just Cade iso. Their defense is great though, with effort and physicality
L
Lucky-Luck • -1 points
You’re premise is not wrong overall … However – Zion puts us back in the hole- We fuck up by letting Butler walk Fuck up more by panic signing Tobi.. Get off Tobi (finally!!!) and max George Zion is the next brick in the fuck up game.. we will be off the floor more than on- we will clog the paint making him useless- and with this teams track record- paying him a boat load to do it… Nope nope nope nope nope nope
M
MaxeytoEmbiid • -5 points
I’m not so sure it’d clog the floor(especially given the way Joel plays). Joel’s not quite at Brook Lopez-level, but he spends a lot more time in the high post, then the low post.(We’ve seen Embiid-Barlow have success.) Getting Zion would be like “See the things Barlow’s good at, now let’s imagine if we get Clippers Barlow every night.”(Now, you could make the argument to just develop Barlow, get him more than a couple of touches a night.) And I wouldn’t be upset about that. But really, the main thing is to get someone to run the floor with Maxey/VJ. I don’t care who but they need a third transition player, so that it’s not so easy to stop our fast break game.

We should fire Nurse after that embarrassing blowout loss to the Knicks. However, can’t fully blame Nurse when we have a max player consuming something that got him banned lol, embarrassing.

The problem with the team isn’t the roster. The problem is coaching. Look at what Mazzulla is doing in Boston. Everyone thought they were gonna be a lottery team. But Mazzulla has a clear system, despite missing their franchise player like we are, and he’s getting his guys to TRY. They’re putting in effort. That’s the difference maker! You see how we play in the end of a game, we’re locking down offense, hustling, playing with heart. We have a terrible coach, and that’s why we’ve had some terrible losses but great wins. The team has talent and heart, but a coach holding them back. That and missing Embiid’s elite gravity and scoring at random times, which is reason no1. The difference between a team with a good coach and a bad coach is HUGE and it’s easy to get caught up in emotion when we lose. We need a new coach. Plain, and simple.
N
Next_Phase_Life • 1 points
I really like Mazzulla as a coach but I think the Celtics overall success is attributed to more than just coaching. They just operate as a world class organization. They hired a GM who has been with the organization for years and is a borderline basketball genius. They hired a head coach that developed internally with the Celtics and has a strong conviction behind his system. Their three core players at the moment – Brown, White, and Pritchard – have logged so many damn minutes together. There’s just a ton of consistency and a process. Compared to the Sixers who are on the 4th iteration of a front office since Joel has been here. Third different head coach – 2 of which didn’t have any ties to the organization prior so there’s just not that same relationship and commitment as when you grow someone internally.

It’s BOTH roster construction AND coaching. Doesn’t have to be one or the other Last night Oubre, Walker, Bona, & Watford were all on the court at the same time. Disgusting spacing. The only wing on the entire roster who can both defend and shoot is currently suspended for taking some drug. Joe Mazulla is a great coach but he’d also find little success with this current group of bums
M
MaskedBirder • -2 points
Mazzulla is working with guys people thought were scrubs. Everyone said Boston would be a lottery team. Coaching makes a MASSIVE difference. If we swapped coaches Boston would fall in the standings all the way to the play-in and we would be seed 3-5.
G
GOAT_SAMMY_DALEMBERT • 3 points
Who said Boston would be a lottery team? They were regularly projected to be a 40-something win team in the preseason and have consistently had a better overall roster than us.
G
GroceryHungry1288 • 4 points
Their role/bench players can shoot AND defend. With our bench we’re lucky if a player can do one. When you don’t have to dump 2nds constantly and actually allow your deep bench guys to develop this is what happens. Helps that their best players are readily available too
M
MaskedBirder • 1 points
Mazzulla would absolutely have more success with the Sixers than Nurse would
V
VirulentPois0n • 1 points
I don’t necessarily disagree but we’ve said that twice before already and look how it’s turned out. The common denominator has been Embiid and his constant injuries, in part due to occasionally reckless play style, which have resulted in him missing significant time and then in part not being able to perform at a high level in the playoffs. Without a healthy Embiid, especially a healthy Embiid who is playing smart and not regressing to old bad habits, the Sixers are not a winning team. Alternatively we would need Maxey to take a leap and become a solidified top 10 player who can lead a team to success in the playoffs independent of Embiid. Would also help if our third max contract actually played and played worthy of the money he is making.
M
MaskedBirder • 3 points
Embiid being in and out is definitely a problem. Nurse is also responsible for our players not producing anything when he’s out.
T
ThatBull_cj • 1 points
I think nurse did a great job early and it has kinda fell off but mazzulla knows that with Tatum out his other 3 best guys will always play and play hard. That’s not the case for nurse. It’s impossible to know what you are getting from PG and Joel and it’s hard to coach around that. He’s not as good of a coach as Joe but I would say he’s good this year. Last year was embarrassing for him tho
L
Lucky-Luck • 6 points
I think a lot of people in this sub have very valid criticisms and takes on this team, we just get sidetracked off of small variants… arguing over Morey Vs Nurse, Maxey Vs Embiid.. we allow ourselves to go off on tangents about petty shit, while very large issues and holes are staring us right in the face.
M
mberko21 • 1 points
Very fair, I definitely fall to this at times because it’s the game by game frustrations that takes the most attention as opposed to bigger picture issues

Cam Payne lead the team in assists and played 10 mins

I firmly believe Nick Nurse is one of the three worst coaches in the entire league and that there are at least dozens of options outside the league that would be exponentially better at coaching.
M
Money_Beautiful_7388 • 1 points
What’s going to be the excuse when they hire a new coach and he fails? At some point you have to look at what you’ve got and realize it’s not enough.
M
MaskedBirder • 5 points
Sam Cassell would be great, develop the young guys too. The thing is Nick Nurse can’t even do the BASICS. Ball movement, timeouts on a run, like it’s terrible coaching.
L
Lucky-Luck • 2 points
Love Sam.. hated seeing him go.
