The recent surge in search interest for “school closings for Monday” is primarily driven by severe winter weather impacting various regions, particularly during the last days of January 2026. Reports indicate that frigid temperatures and snowfall are causing numerous schools in areas such as Central Texas and Kansas City to announce closures. This weather-related disruption has prompted parents and students to seek immediate information about which schools are affected and how it will impact their schedules.

News outlets, including KCTV5 and ClickOnDetroit, have provided lists of school closures across their regions, further fueling public curiosity. As people look to ensure their safety and plan their week ahead, high search volumes reflect the urgency of understanding local school operations in light of the inclement weather conditions. The cumulative reports of closures across multiple cities have led to an increased need for updated information, driving the volume of searches significantly.

Additionally, the winter storms are notable for their intensity, resulting in hazardous conditions on roads and in neighborhoods. With safety being a primary concern, individuals are turning to online search platforms to gather the latest information on affected school districts and closures, which explains the heightened activity around the search term. The confluence of severe weather reports and the immediate need for updates about local school operations has created a significant trend in search interest for school closings.

NTA. I have hyperhidrosis. I take medication that helps massively with this. There are sooo many ways to cope with hyperhidrosis. Edit- the medication is oxybutynin. I also use clinical antiperspirant (i find the gel kind works better than solid or soft solid) and Lume body wash and cream deodorant. There are other meds available. In the US, it requires a prescription. Dunno about other places

Had a friend that got botox shots for it, and she said it helped immensely
K
KatiePotatie1986 • 1,087 points
Mine is primarily craniofacial, so botox is less helpful lol (though I do get it for migraines). But between oxybutynin, clinical strength antiperspirant, and Lume, I do okay.

Next_Dragonfly_9473 • 436 points
Lume is amazing! But I somehow developed an allergy to it, even the unscented stuff. I use HiBar deodorant now, but clinical strength Degree antiperspirant worked great for me before I switched to aluminum-free. (My genes make me stinky. I shower every morning, sniff-test my armpits regularly, and constantly suck on Altoids when I need to be close to people. Losing 100 pounds and hitting menopause also helped.)

I have hyperhidrosis too. Try getting her Michum Clinical strength gel (has to be the clear gel kind) antiperspirant. It stops the bacteria and works for more than 12 hours. It’s amazing.

I use it too. My mom has hyperhidrosis & my one brother & I inherited it. But I have to add- just sweating more than usual does not make you smell horrible. It is affected by hormones & the foods you eat & activity. I can vacuum the house & take the dog for a long walk & sweat excessively & I still don’t smell. She must not be showering for long periods & also eating foods that are more pungent. For someone to smell so badly that you vomit? She definitely needs to shower daily.

It depends on what normally lives on your skin. I have a mild hyperhidrosis and get stinky super quickly. I shower twice a day, wear loose clothing, eat healthy, drink water only, little to no excess fat, got a doctor to check things out…yet, I stink quickly. It used to be detrimental to my mental health, especially when I was younger. That being said I always make sure that I am as fresh as possible before I leave my home.

This, everyone’s skin has a different microbiome, and genetics also play a factor. I’m East Asian with a shit diet, high stress, and poor sleep. I don’t need deodorant. My white friend who is vegan and health conscious will start to smell within an hour of scrubbing clean in the shower if she doesn’t apply deodorant immediately. Humans have two different kinds of sweat glands, eccrine (all over your body, produces near odorless sweat) and apocrine (in armpits and groin, makes thicker, oilier sweat). From what I understand, most Asians have a mutation in the ABCC11 gene which results in apocrine glands releasing less lipids and proteins (bacteria eat this and create smells). Even if you don’t have the mutation, there are other genes that affect the number, size, and activity levels of your apocrine glands.

That’s what I understand as well. It’s disheartening when the reaction to stinky people is “just shower more”, “use deodorant”, etc. When you say that that’s not quite enough, you are told to go to the doctor. The doctor shrugs and says it looks like “that’s normal for you”. It might be normal, but it’s not nice. And yes, we DO smell ourselves. When I smell myself in public, my stomach drops and I want to disappear.

blickyjayy • 42 points
Glycolic acid wipes or spray will be a game changer for you! You spray/wipe it on immediately after a shower, let it dry, then put on deodorant as usual and it kills the bacteria that creates the stink.

Different condition, same issue. Certain Dri works really well. Almond powder is also great, but messy

I tried all the clinical deodorant I could find and all I got was ruined shirts. It mostly stopped with oxybutynin. I can use regular deodorant now.

Menopause helped? I’m in Peri and I’ve never sweated this much in my life!
N
Next_Dragonfly_9473 • 35 points
Oh, the hot flashes sucked! But I think I’m past them? A few years back, I got tired of sweating on relatively cool days (reference to the 1990 movie Crazy People), so it’s possible my weight loss is countering the normal symptoms. Or maybe I’m over the hump? I don’t actually know what stage I’m in because I had my period surgically removed 7 years ago (kept the ovaries). I used to sleep with one lower leg and one hand out from under the covers to try to *not* sweat all night. Now I’m under 5 layers of blankets/comforters and still freezing. (Even prior to this cold snap.)

You’ve had your thyroid checked, right? My first thyroid symptom was freezing during an Arizona summer.
N
Next_Dragonfly_9473 • 3 points
I had it checked before when they said I had hyperhidrosis on my scalp! 🤣 (Sweat would drop off of me less than a minute after I started vacuuming, so I stopped vacuuming. Problem solved!)

Me too, never had as much sweat in my 40 yrs as I did wiith the 5-7 years during peri & menopause. Menopause even changed my body odour. If I forgot to or didnt put enough antiperspirant on the following day on waking I would be rancid. Now I’m post it hasn’t gotten any better.

Exactly! I wonder if they changed their formula?

Lume changed their formula a couple of years ago and it stopped working for me. Might be the same case with your allergy 😞

I have bad craniofacial hyperhydrosis that developed after increasing my Zoloft dosage last year. Even after reducing the dose, it never fully went away. Luckily it’s not always constant, but if it’s even remotely humid where I am I start sweating buckets. I’m a plus-sized person too, so I feel extra self conscious because I’m worried everyone assumes I’m so fat I can’t move well or something, even though I’m not THAT heavy and this happens when I am in no way exerting myself. I went on a trip to my company’s central office in NYC over the summer, and even when it was only maybe 80 degrees out, by the time I got to the office after a 0.3 mile walk from my hotel, my hair was so sweaty I looked like I’d just gotten out of the shower. It was humiliating. I recently had to admit to my psych that I really am better off on the Zoloft, but that I am terrified of it getting worse again regardless of dose strength. He prescribed me Oxybutynin, but my pharmacy hasn’t filled it yet because some sort of stocking issue. -_- Do you find it really does help? I’m a little nervous about the dry mouth side effect. I feel like I am already a little on the dry side, probably because of my med combo. But I’m desperate. I hate feeling like I need to choose between mental stability or even a chance at physical comfort.

Not to add another product to your list, but Biotene oral rinse really helps with drymouth. The SNRI I was on for years causes major drymouth and Biotene was a lifesaver. Speaking of Lifesavers, there’s also really good drymouth mints called Flintts Mints!

Not the person you asked, but when I bought them, I had to get them directly from the site. I’m in the US, but it’s a US company. So if it’s not in stores here…

I’m so sorry, but that medication is associated with a higher risk of dementia. I’d recommend only using it ahead of really important events, and when you do, making sure to also use eye drops (it dries EVERYTHING out). For regular use, try beta blockers instead. I take propranolol as a migraine preventative and discovered that taking it at the same time as meds that had been making me sweat more really really helped decrease the sweat overall. It also has the side effect of making you feel a little less anxious, which I found helped my antidepressant experience greatly. Plus they’re good for your heart
S
Swimming_Onion_4835 • 12 points
Thank you for the heads up! I was thinking of maybe only taking it when I have to go to New York or when I’m around people I don’t know well and I feel particularly self-conscious about it. Never would have thought of the eye drops! I’ve actually had propanol prescribed before for anxiety, but I haven’t taken it since this issue started. I should ask for a refill and see if it helps!

Beta-blockers like propranolol can reduce excessive sweating, with varying success. Beta-blockers also reduce shaking, can decrease anxiety, and cap surges in BP and/or pulse that often go with more anxiety. This is why taking beta-blockers before public speaking is a major thing. Oxybutynin, glycopyrrolate, and benztropine reduce excessive sweating through anticholinergic effects. The success rate in these medications reducing hyperhidrosis is more consistent. Furthermore, beta-blockers are unlikely to provide discernible relief in the more severe hyperhidrosis cases. Someone else commented about dementia risk, and they’re not wrong. The newly-heightened public awareness of anticholinergic effects increasing dementia risk is important, but keep in mind: 1) tons of medications have anticholinergic effects, even if these have more because they are prescribed specifically for that reason, 2) there are many, many chemical mechanisms in commonly-prescribed medications that increase risk of dementia aside from anticholinergic effects, 3) anticholinergic effects impact an older brain far more than a young or middle-aged one, and 4) You can take hyperhidrosis medications as-needed, meaning you can minimize exposure, as opposed to other medications that must be taken daily to work. (Many people feel they are necessary every day, but this is a flexible aspect not true for every medication.) Essentially, there’s risk everywhere, and it’s all about balancing pro’s and con’s. Talk to your physician about the risks and benefits.

You’re very welcome! I worry when people make blanket statements about medications like ‘that causes dementia!’ and scare people away. You know what else is linked to higher rates of dementia? Untreated depression and anxiety. What if someone stops their sertraline/Zoloft due to uncomfortable side effects in combination with inadequate information about treatment options that make the side effect tolerable? Then you get someone who is miserable with depression and anxiety, and possibly an even higher risk of dementia than they would’ve had continuing the antidepressant. Now *that* is a terrible shame. Good communication with your physician is critical! —————— If you didn’t see my other comments: -Botox can be used to reduce hyperhidrosis when applied to the sites most affected. -Glycopyrrolate wipes exist but aren’t always feasible financially. Do not touch your eyes after use (as your physician would tell you anyway). -Biotene products can reduce dry mouth as a result of anticholinergic (or any other) medications. Their Biotene oral spray is particularly popular. You can also look into TheraBreath. Sugar-free gum and candy are good for getting saliva going. Saliva movement is important in preventing dental cavities. -Primary care often addresses milder cases of hyperhidrosis, but if you need a physician specialist, it’ll be dermatology. -Cooling blankets and pillows can help at night. -IF you happen to be a perimenopausal female, and this is even part of your excessive sweating, hormone replacement can be amazing if you are a good candidate for it. (Edit: typo. Switched a word.)

I use cotton bandanas around my head, with the thicker part under my hair. It really helps me keep my hair and forehead dry. I swap them for dry ones as needed. More on humid days!

If I forget to take my oxybutynin, I can be in the cold, standing still, and sweat will be literally dripping down my face. When I have taken it, I’m still sweatier than most people when it’s hot or when I’m very physically active, but not nearly as bad.
S
Swimming_Onion_4835 • 3 points
This is good to hear! It’s just so hard. Not just physically, with sweat being uncomfortable or embarrassing, but I just CANNOT hydrate myself enough when this happens and I feel like I am always super dehydrated. It’s infuriating.
B
BeeslyBeaslyBeesley • 2 points
Oxybutynin can be very effective. Sometimes they use glycopyrrolate. Occasionally, benztropine. The anticholinergic effects of these medications reduces sweating, but also dries out your mouth and can be linked to urinary retention. That being said, many patients find taking one of these medications increases their quality of life a lot. Furthermore, they can be used as needed, so you can skip them some days, depending on your needs. Biotene products are very helpful for dry mouth, and the oral spray is their most popular product. I know some people find TheraBreath products useful, too. Don’t forget about sugar free gum and candy, too. They get the saliva moving. Dry mouth is uncomfortable, but it also increases the risk of dental cavities.

Lume made me smell disgusting… like I would throw up at my own smell. I heard great things about it so I was so disappointed!! Crazy how differently bodies respond to stuff.

Personally I think the cream smells cheesy and gross. It’s likely the thickening agent used. I switched to the spray version at the recommendation of someone else who has the same issue (I too sweat from existing) and it really did work.

My body turns almost every scent into durian. I commented that I loved a particular scent at a store but needed something I could spray on my clothes, and the woman was confused, so I had her spray it onto my wrist. Roses to durian like *snap*. I’m also allergic to lavender, AKA itchy durian. 🤣

I like the body wash but the cream deodorant smells like a pissed in diaper on me. I threw away the entire tube, I couldn’t stand it

I had the same thing happen. I tried three different scents. I thought I smelled absolutely awful. I threw them away. I was really disappointed because my hot flashes going through menopause are intense.
