9-8 incoming

Honestly can’t think of a better coach hire if their goal is to be the 4-7 seed and lose their playoff game. McCarthy can get you that every year.

Traded one 9-8 Mike for another. Rooneys obsession for consistency will never change.
T

That’s insulting to Tomlin
B

Yeah man it was 10-7
M
Murky-Profit-9493 • 33 points
Didn’t McCarthy go like 12-5 three straight years in Dallas? I think this hire stinks but I don’t get the McCarthy is mediocre slant at all.

That seems uninspiring
W
wazup564 • 2,297 points
it’s so gross man lmao. You would think after 20 years with a coach and his system in place for an organization, you would want a brand new fresh start with someone inspiring…not Mike McCarthy.
G
Great_Hambino2022 • 857 points
Unfortunately Rooney lives for mediocrity
N
Netwealth5 • 374 points
You would also think someone whose father is the namesake of the rule would shoot a little more inspiring then 60+ white guy on his 3rd try whose Super Bowl win was almost as long ago as Tomlin’s
G
Great_Hambino2022 • 299 points
Well this Rooney probably had very little to do with the Rooney Rule. His father wanted greatness. Art just doesn’t care
D
DTPocks • 154 points
Yeah this is just typical nepo baby behavior
V
volvanator • 86 points
He’s Fredo, he should be watching after a club in Vegas and picking people up from the airport, not running the Steelers. Dan is the only competent owner we’ve had.
F
Freezinghero • 48 points
The impression i get from this Rooney is that as long as the seats at the stadium are full, he considers it a success.
F
FlussedAway • 130 points
He might be the guy to finally get successful play out of a young QB in Pittsburgh and if he does that everyone will shut up quick
D
dreyan1625 • 121 points
He’s a QB guru and they have had a qb issue since big ben left, seems like the natural solution. I agree though, uninspiring.
L
liteshadow4 • 59 points
The last QB he developed was Aaron Rodgers ages ago.
D
dreyan1625 • 97 points
Dak has given Mike a lot of credit for helping him learn the position
1
123full • 71 points
I mean he’s really only worked with 3 QBs, he revived Favre’s career, developed Rodgers, and elevated Daks game. He also got Matt Flynn paid and went 9-5 with Cooper Rush, not sure how you cant call him a QB guru
S
SaintArkweather • 501 points
Losing Tomlin to hire a guy who won one super bowl 15 years ago and hasn’t made it back since, despite having better QB play than Tomlin for pretty much the entire time (not just Rodgers > Ben but Dak > Random cascade of Steelers QBs)
P
PatMayonnaise • 113 points
Idk man, I’d put Landry Jones and Duck Hodges up there with prime Aaron Rodgers
T
ThorThulu • 9 points
Youre leaving out the real GOAT, Jaylen Samuels running Wildcat
T
ThePhoenixXM • 44 points
They literally just hired the other coach of that Packers vs Steelers Super Bowl in 2010 or 11. Unbelievable. Both Tomlin and McCarthy haven’t made it back since.
T
toomuchsoysauce • 20 points
True but then why do a lot of people think hiring Harbaugh was the best choice this cycle? He made it in 2013. Since then, he’s had great defenses and a multiyear MVP QB yet hasn’t made the Superbowl since. In fact, his resume is virtually identical to McCarthy’s. I don’t think McCarthy is very good myself but it just feels like this weird bias with Harbaugh.

Playoff wins the last 10 years John Harbaugh: 3 Mike McCarthy: 4 Somehow one of these coaches is considered the most sought after available coach while the other is considered a terrible hire
C
CaptTremor • 130 points
Your first sentence still kinda describes Tomlin lol
S
SaintArkweather • 157 points
Yeah exactly that was my point. The fact that they’re getting someone whose resume has very similar flaws to who they just lost.
T
The_Throwback_King • 56 points
Clearly shows Art II did NOT want to fire Tomlin, didn’t EXPECT to have to replace him, and absolutely does NOT want to try and install a new fresher vision with the team Just the microwaved 9-8 dogwater that continues to delude themselves into believing that they are a “real” contender
R
revanisthesith • 14 points
Yeah, this is just what they really, really hope is a “safe” hire. Stay above .500 and make the playoffs seems good enough for the ownership. I know Pittsburgh can be slow and deliberate in their actions (not always a bad thing), but they REALLY didn’t want to rock the boat and make big changes. Not having a McVay-like overhaul by bringing in a fresh, young face.

Steelers fans are whelmed

Steelers fans are pissed lmao

I was 100% on board with Tomlin leaving the past few years, but immediately realized after seeing the interviews we were doing that was a mistake. I would have taken another 100 years of Tomlin over literally *any* of the people we interviewed, and then we literally picked the second worst choice after Flores.
M
Most-Cryptographer78 • 49 points
I loved Tomlin and wanted him to stay, but I was open to seeing what a fresh start could do. I would’ve been cool with a fresh face like Scheelhaase or something, but *Mike McCarthy*? I’m gonna crash out.

Welcome back Aaron rodgers
M
msf97 • 1,419 points
Rodgers probably won’t work with Mike again after how it ended in Green Bay.
G
GuysOnChicks69 • 631 points
Probably not. But they do like each other as people. For all Mike’s flaws he’s a players coach through and through. I just want to see it so badly. I’d rather be dead than have them both in Green Bay right now but this is cinema for Packers fans if it happened.
B
Bluest_waters • 204 points
Everyone who works with Mike always has good things to say about him He’s a good guy. He’s just not a great coach. Good coach? Yes. Great coach? No.
J
joodo123 • 138 points
The Steelers having extremely competent coaching and being slightly over .500 and eliminated in the first round… name a more iconic trio!
T
thwack01 • 59 points
You need to add a WR with bad character
W

They got DK
W
WeaknessOne9646 • 40 points
I wanted him in Tennessee. For the Steelers he just seems like Tomlin or 90% version of Tomlin. Not really the change in direction I thought they wanted (unless theyre drafting a QB)
B
Bluest_waters • 37 points
Tennessee would have been the perfect place for him honestly Develop a QB and get the team playing at a relatively high level.
D
Dixiehusker • 118 points
Vikings it is.

That packers jets Vikings pipeline.
G

The prophecy must be fulfilled.

Given how it ended the first time, with Mike getting massages when he should’ve been at meetings, I highly doubt it
