The current search interest in “Arthur Smith” has surged due to recent reports of his expected hiring as the new offensive coordinator for Ohio State. This development is significant as Smith previously held the position of head coach for the Atlanta Falcons and has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers as their offensive coordinator for the last two seasons. The news has caught the attention of fans and analysts who are keen to learn more about his potential impact on the Buckeyes’ football program.

Additionally, media coverage has highlighted Smith’s recent challenges with the Steelers’ offense, described as a “clear issue” that may have affected their performance. This context surrounding his coaching abilities adds to the intrigue, as individuals search for clarification on his coaching style and effectiveness. Such scrutiny naturally leads to increased interest in his career moves and coaching decisions.

The convergence of these elements—a high-profile hiring in a major collegiate football program and recent performance discussions—has propelled Arthur Smith into the spotlight, prompting over 20,000 searches as individuals seek further information on his responsibilities and expectations in this new role. The implications for both Ohio State and Smith’s career trajectory are key reasons why he is trending at this moment.

I thought Matt Patricia was gonna be a bad hire, so I don’t wanna say how this one is going to go.
L

I also don’t wanna say how I think is going to go. I trust Day but… 😶
T
txwoodslinger • 59 points
How many tight ends can yall put on the field at once?
I
Inconceivable76 • 18 points
We put 4 out there this season. I WAS hoping for less.
C

Saban is gone. So far, all indications point to OSU being the new location of the School for Coaches Who Can’t Coach Good (and Who Want to Learn to Do Other Things Good Too), so I can’t help but believe this is going to work out swimmingly.

More importantly is Ohio state just created a new coaching position. Smith is not going to be in one of the main 10 assistant coaching spots, so he’s won’t be able to do off campus recruiting. It’s probably going to revolutionize the way coaching staffs are built in college.
T
TechnoFullback • 4 points
Say what? Since when is **offensive coordinator** not one of the 10 assistant coaches? What are you talking about?
B
biancocigno • 13 points
He’s not recruiting which means he’s not part of the 10. This was the talk when Brian left for USF on how we were going to be able to hire a WR coach and an OC because we only had one spot left for a recruiter.
M
MrF_lawblog • 3 points
We have our position coaches recruit. Although Patricia did go on the road last week with Day to recruit.
G
glocckkyy • 44 points
Probably safe to say that with this hire and Hartline departing that OSU might not be a WR factory for much longer… Does Jonnu Smith have any eligibility left?
B
br0b1wan • 9 points
The thing is, we’ve been really consistent about putting quality WRs in the NFL long before Hartline. He just ratched it up a little. Meyer, Tressel, and Cooper all had great WRs.
N

As a Steelers fan too, I hate it I hate it I hate it
R

Tough day for coaching news
N

I’m not having fun
M
mattatattat45 • 4 points
We got an ex NFL coach to replace the current coach of USF, just think of it that way
L
lexbuck • 52 points
I mean Brian Hartline wasn’t great so it honestly can’t be that bad. Just don’t run a bunch a TEs out there in the red zone, run up the middle on third and long, and do a bubble screen every fourth play and we’ll be fine
D
dkviper11 • 32 points
I would say Hartline was inexperienced but Arthur Smith has shown to be not very creative or willing to improve. Then again, he’ll have a dramatic talent advantage at Ohio State that he didn’t have with the Steelers.
M
MisterMihai • 44 points
You don’t have to be that creative when Jeremiah Smith is down there somewhere.
T
ToothPickLegs • 20 points
“He will make an excellent decoy.” – Arthur Smith probably
G
glocckkyy • 22 points
I mean the dude had Bijan and was feeding the ball to Tyler Allgeier and Jonnu Smith instead…
K
Kdot32 • 4 points
And the Atlanta offense he led was still better
C
composer_7 • 3 points
Still better than Zac Robinson and his obsession with the pistol. Also Tyler Allgeier is very good too
S
SlugsPerSecond • 3 points
Yeah but your QB has to actually throw it to him… I was hollering at the TV against Miami
J
Jay_Dubbbs • 8 points
Probably not easy to be creative in the NFL with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as your QB and no receivers
B
bee_poop • 11 points
I was only really paying close attention when he was with the Titans. Maybe his play calling philosophy has evolved since then. But scads of TEs, a heavy run game, and some occasional inexplicably goofy shit was kinda his whole thing. Guess Ryan Day has a type?
L
lexbuck • 3 points
Ryan Day also does love to live by the “we must establish the run” mantra so maybe he’s going on in on that 😂
B
bee_poop • 2 points
To Art’s credit, it did kinda work with Derrick Henry back there. So if Bo Jackson turns out to be a dude, y’all might be on to something.
G
glocckkyy • 7 points
You kinda just described an Arthur Smith offense. Except add in a couple jet sweeps to the TE in the RZ.
C
Character-Active2208 • 2 points
I have bad news Smith loves 3 TE sets and the highest-difficulty run blocking schemes possible (very zone heavy) It’s this past season’s offense but 1.25x more
A
Awsome4510 • 11 points
Matt Patricia was a great defensive coordinator in the NFL while Arthur Smith was an ok offensive coordinator. As a Steelers fan all I will say is get ready for a lot of TE pass plays and jet sweeps.
M
mojo276 • 8 points
Except lets not use Friermuth and keep using Jonnu Smith instead.
S
Swazi • 5 points
Don’t forget about screens that never work and RB toss when inside the 5 for a loss. Steelers fans know it well.
N
No_Albatross916 • 5 points
I do want to see what Patricia looks like without four first rounders on defense I think a lot of guys could coordinate a good defense with that defensive roster they had last year especially with Caleb downs and arvel Reese
L
lexbuck • 39 points
Luckily for him we probably won’t ever know.
R
Rabidschnautzu • 37 points
This is insane. Patricia had 3 returners on this defense last year. Wtf is this comment? The only first rounder going into the season last year was Downs.
I
iNsAnEHAV0C • 22 points
not sure why you are getting downvoted. Downs was the only one guaranteed to be first round going into the season. Styles, Reese, and McDonald all played their way to that level.
I
iwearatophat • 12 points
Styles was a borderline first rounder going into the season, late first in a lot of mocks. Your overall point is right though. Our defense was a lot of new faces. All new starters on the dline and only Styles, Downs, and Iggy returning on the back 7. The defense was dominant. Hell, even in our losses it is hard to say the defense played poorly.
E
Endgame60 • 4 points
Did anyone know who Kayden McDonald was before the season? Arvell Resse? (Other than Buckeye fans of course)
F
FanaticalBuckeye • 4 points
He picked up a defense that replaced 9 starters. I’m sure there will be a drop off compared to last year but I’m willing to bet he’ll continue to do great things
G
goosu • 2 points
We’ve had other DCs waste great talent. Sure, Matt had a lot of talent, but he also allowed the fewest ppg (across all of the FBS) in 14 years.
B
Business_Cell8487 • 3 points
He was a scapegoat for the Steelers last year he’s still a good coach. That’s the best we’ve seen the Steelers offense since Big Ben retired and it wasn’t bc of Rodgers.
S
Squishy_20 • 289 points
Does Jonnu Smith have any eligibility left?
A
According_One811 • 29 points
Whos their third string tight end?
1
1800abcdxyz • 11 points
He’s gonna learn to speak jet sweep, buddy.
C
composer_7 • 14 points
Stole my comment. Falcons fans know how he loves Jonnu Smith more than his own family
A
Appropriate-Joke-806 • 6 points
Tits fans know too. Nothing that Arthur Smith likes more than a jet sweep or a PA rollout to Jonnu. His entire offense with the Titans was run Henry, PA to AJ Brown, and occasional rollout to Jonnu.
T
tyedge • 10 points
A-plus work by you
C
Cheeky_Delinquent93 • 4 points
With how shit is going with the NCAA lately, probably
T

Bo Jackson to the moon I guess..
C

No itll be osu’s 2nd string rb and 3rd string te
