As someone who’s worked with low income individuals with prescription drug addictions, unfortunately some doctors only need the insurance to clear to prescribe insanely dangerous drugs their clients could very easily overdose. Doctors aren’t immune from being complete pieces of shit either.

Images of pill bottles reviewed by The Post show Haroutunian prescribed Irsay more than 200 opioid pills in the days before his two overdoses in December 2023. > In Irsay’s final months, these people said, Haroutunian began treating him with ketamine, the powerful anesthetic that contributed to the 2023 death of Hollywood actor Matthew Perry. Nurses working under Haroutunian’s direction were frequently seen by these people injecting Irsay with ketamine, which experts said is risky to administer to patients with substance abuse disorders and heart conditions.

In fairness people with chronic pain and substance abuse issues still sometimes have to take pain medication. As long as you’re adherent it’s not considered a relapse and well it’s not optimal someone with chronic back pain or something… Being physically dependent on pills is the lesser of all evils than hating your life all the time because you’re in hellish pain. But the ketamine thing I know much less about. But contrary to what some people say people that are in recovery are allowed to be prescribed pain medication when applicable. No of course if you’re a billionaire that you might be able to get doctors to do it when it’s not appropriate But I have a family member who’s been on Suboxone for a decade and it saved his life and he has not used hard drugs ever since. But he did have a crazy toothache and it was making his life miserable and they needed to wait 4 days to give him an extraction and the ER doctor explained that in these circumstances as long as they’re adherent. He was prescribed you know a couple days worth of Percocet or whatever. But sometimes when celebrities are involved we see more extreme things like with Michael Jackson Every situation is different this person had nearly a decade of adherence and no relapse and such. But I think some people can be a little too quick to assume that no person that’s ever struggled with substance abuse could ever plausibly or justifiably take medicine with risk for addiction. Chronic pain chronic anxiety chronic depression… Sometimes those will kill you worse than dangerous addictive drugs It’s not easy to weigh quality of life and risk assessment here.

Ket has benefits but it’s also highly addictive itself. Could maybe work if you have a good doctor but if he’s crooked and allows you to get hooked on that too… not good
