Traffic stops are a little bit of a double edged sword. Checking your license is really only supposed to verify that you are licensed to operate the vehicle that you are driving. Your license, however, has all of your identification information so they run that to check for other issues such as warrants, etc. It’s kind of BS, since speeding or whatever you’re pulled over for is not probable cause to suspect you’ve done something else wrong.
