The recent announcements of the 2026 Golden Globe winners have generated significant search interest, with over 500K searches recorded. This surge is largely attributed to major wins, including “One Battle After Another,” which has captured considerable attention, indicating it was a standout film at the awards ceremony. The impact of such a significant film victory likely prompted many to seek more information, driving the spike in searches.

Additionally, Timothée Chalamet’s win for his role in “Marty Supreme” has also contributed to heightened interest in the Golden Globes. As a popular and influential actor, his recognition at the awards naturally draws attention from fans and the general public alike, leading to increased search activity as people look for details about his performance and the film.

Further fueling the trend, celebrity news surrounding the Golden Globes, such as the romantic developments between Glen Powell and Michelle Randolph during the afterparty, has captured reader interest. This intertwining of award ceremony results with celebrity personal lives tends to amplify curiosity, encouraging more people to search for news related to both the winners and their off-screen interactions.

What an interesting time we live in when actors have bigger balls than a vast majority of US Congress
T
TryingToWriteIt • 2,348 points
Bigger than most journalists, too.
F
fysu • 999 points
I worked in journalism for a decade and most actual news journalists I know do have pretty meaty balls. But they also have many executives above them who get to override anything they write and publish. Not to mention the poor pay, rampant layoffs, blatant meddling by Sales and Content Marketing departments and articles now being written by AI. We have to start holding “news” organizations and their leadership responsible. A journalist is nothing without a publication that has their back. Few of them can do their jobs properly in this industry anymore.

Lorgin • 264 points
Totally. The problem isn’t with journalists. It’s that media companies aren’t owned by journalists.
G
goosebumpsagain • 100 points
They are owned by the rich, who control them at whim.
R
Replikant83 • 91 points
There was a clip someone posted earlier of Biden warning that if we don’t change things, we’ll all be owned by an oligarchy of ultra rich. I found it really chilling…. Mostly because it’s happening in front of all of our eyes right now and seems to be at an alarmingly fast rate. This AI shit is, no doubt, all by design, to cripple us even more
K

I think we are already there unfortunately. And if your ‘against’ them you’re a ‘radical’ or ‘anti-American’. Keep the public distracted, arguing about nothing, as the elites continue to gain more and more power.
T
The_Lapsed_Pacifist • 8 points
Bear in mind it’s all the more chilling coming from him given that he’s a neoliberal. When part of the machine working to make that happen is warning about it, it’s a warning that should be taken very seriously
B
bagoink • 3 points
Meanwhile, people like Bernie have been pointing out that we’re already there.
F
fatbunyip • 20 points
The problem is also with people. Quality news/reporting/analysis costs money. Nobody wants to pay for news. Nobody wants to read more than 12 words. People want to have decades long issues summarised in a 8s tiktok. People don’t want to think so they’re happy to just get spoonfed whatever shit the algo throws at them without actually engaging any part of their brain.
D
DistanceImpressive77 • 3 points
You left out that they only want to hear what their uneducated, non attention-span-having, disturbingly tiny brains have already decided what’s true. In other words, they seek out the 8s tic toc vid that suits their narrative so they can smugly nod and say to themselves, “see, I was right!!” before continuing on in their matrix-dominated existence.

The problem is that people doesn’t want to pay for news. If people don’t pay, then advertisers own the newspapers, and when that fails, the rich people own them.

Never forget it was CNN who made Trump big in 2016. [https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-37952249.amp](https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-37952249.amp)

People need to understand what “normalization” is.
K
kevphilly36 • 3 points
Agreed. We need a new breed of news media. This is WAY easier said than done, as the current news media is so entrenched it requires consumers to go the extra mile and support real journalism. People are so used to opening Apple News or Reddit, ect, and they get their news from the same 5 sources. It’s not that we don’t have great journalists, it’s that they would have to go out on their own or to smaller new outlets that’s just don’t get the views. Like most industries, media is consolidating, with large corporations purchasing or merging with larger ones. (And now large are merging with other large leaving a few massive media companies owing the majority of our news)

To be fair most of them I don’t think could play many characters beyond shrewd politician so probably wouldn’t have a ton of producers calling their agent.
C
chanslam • 9 points
I mean I guess that’s the point of art right? To have the balls to express things others can’t or won’t.

It’s not a requirement to be bought out by billionaires or their corporations to be an actor. To be a congressman/woman on the other hand…
R
reddititty69 • 6 points
Up with this. I wrote to Chuck Schumer to tell him what a fucking pussy he is.
S
sunbeatsfog • 5 points
