It was pretty much the same story as his NHL years. He carried his team to the finals, only to lose to a stacked (by OHL standards) Oshawa team that went on to win the Memorial Cup over Draisaitl who was carrying his WHL team. Oshawa had Dal Colle, who was the 5th overall pick the year before, had another 1st rounder in McCarron, had a bunch of 2nd-4th rounders, and had an OHL rookie Cirelli as their 3C. Most of the team’s main guys didn’t stick in the NHL, Cirelli, McCarron & Dakota Mermis are the only 3 left at the top level

Yeah . Mcdavids push for a quick ending, ended the game quick. A lot of the losses he has experienced have been 100% not his fault. This one he owns some blame

He didn’t play well the entire game and, arguably, the semifinals as well. There were a lot of chances where he and MacKinnon spent way too much time passing back and forth to each other while trying to set up a perfect opportunity and turned over the puck instead of getting into the crease where Hellebuyck was more vulnerable. You can really see how his play style differs from Crosby, and it’s very clear to me that Crosby’s absence was a huge part of Team Canada’s loss. USA is a damned good team but McDavid’s contributions dried up pretty quick as soon as he could no longer put up big numbers on soft teams like France.

I couldn’t watch the semis so I cant have that big of an opinion. I think we all knew the offense would be harder in the semis and gold medal game. Its mostly a couple tough plays and more so the OT play in the gold medal game that really stands out. I think a 100% crosby helps Canada. Pp1 looks better and probably scores on one of their powerplays . Canada deserved to win this game thats the way it goes. I think this can be a learning experience for Mcdavid assuming players go to the next olympics. Trust and use your teamates, you cant do it all the time every game. He thought he could just walk in and end it, well it did end it but not the way he hoped
