The topic of “2026 winter olympics ice hockey” is currently trending due to the high-profile matchups and significant news coverage surrounding the women’s and men’s hockey tournaments at the Winter Olympics. Recent reports highlight a notable game where the USA women’s team achieved a significant victory over Canada, capturing public interest and generating over 500,000 searches as fans sought live updates and detailed coverage of the match.

Additionally, the ongoing discussions about the men’s hockey tournament have intensified interest, particularly concerning the absence of Russian teams. A prominent article from the New York Post notes that this absence may overshadow the tournament, leading to varying opinions on the legitimacy of the competition, and prompting fans and analysts alike to seek more information about the potential impact on the overall event.

Furthermore, the live updates provided by sources like NBC News underscore the dynamic and competitive nature of the Olympics, which includes not only hockey but also various other winter sports. These factors contribute to a surge in searches as audiences keep track of the latest developments and performances in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Aw, Chock and Bates’ flamenco looked so good.

I literally was so scared going into this I turned of the program before the final flight and took an hour nap, I was so scared to watch and see that P2 would’ve just missed podium which is what I expected and I really thought it was over for them, but I open my YouTube app and see they won bronze and I felt like I could breathe again. Paul’s reaction after finishing the dance was probably the standout moment for f the whole event for me. (Along with the iconic dune program). I do feel bad for Lilah and Lewis though, it sucks performing and not being at your best, it’s gonna be a tough pill to swallow, but I hope it pushes them to improve and strive for better. At the end of the day though Piper and Paul deserved this more, so I’m happy they got it.

Im not familiar with figure skating, can someone explain how the French team had a visible mistake and still won. Especially when it seemed that the commentators (that I was watching at least) preferred the USA performance?
S
sparklypavements • 1 points
the French team were deducted for the mistake but overall they were better – they had more pts from the short dance and the judges preferred the choreography of their FD over Chock and Bates.

Guillaume and Laurence were magical on the ice in Milan. Gui is simply unbeatable; he proved it tonight and has made history. I discovered in Laurence a very skillful and graceful skater. Their partnership and their connection deeply moved me. It’s incredible to imagine that she was on the verge of having to end her career, forced to, and that today she has a gold medal in her hands. She’s come a long way, which makes it all the more touching. And totally deserved! Despite the media pressure, despite the criticism, despite the harassment and intimidation, they never gave up. Bravo to them! Bravo to Chock and Bates for their entire careers. Their program was also incredible.

Ice dance has become such a beautiful event to watch. I do feel so bad for Chock and Bates but I truly believe Cizeron is the best male ice dancer I have ever seen. His soft knee bend and edge depth cannot be matched, it is completely effortless and that is a true gift . I don’t know much about outside rumors about their personal life but that is not what they are supposed to be judged on and it seems unfair to bring this into the conversation.

he’s absolutely one of the most skilled ice dancers of all time but he also made mistakes today and should not have been rewarded for them. it reeks of blatant corruption.

I was not rooting for the French but I do think they are unfortunately the better skaters even if they are awful people. But I think it’s still wrong to materialize points where they don’t deserve it. That said, I think Team Japan should have won the team comp so Bock ended up being Gold and Silver medalists as they ultimately should have been. I just bet they’d do anything to swap which one it was for…

Cizeron is SO good it makes me mad (but also it’s a treat to watch him). I think he’s up there with Scott Moir as one of the best male ice dancers ever and might even just edge out if I kept all my endless love and awe of VM aside lol I’ve seen both men perform live and mannn are they insane. So so fast, so powerful and smooth. Like no other dude comes close to how good. Cizeron esp is smooth and is such a talent with how commanding and artistic he with his arms.
A
Avaelectric • 3 points
Yes, his upper body is so relaxed relative to the other males on the ice, it’s really all in his arms and shoulders.
M
maxmarioxx_ • -8 points
A sane position. The attacks on him and his partner have been so intense it seems to me more like a PR campaign to destroy their chances at the Olympics. Downvote me into oblivion but some of the stuff said online about them would get people jailed in some countries.
A
Avaelectric • 1 points
He moves like a ballerina on the ice, no other man there can match his fluidity and flexibility.
S
sparklypavements • 1 points
Def a ballerina on ice. I would sometimes wonder how a team up of him and Tessa Virtue would be since both of them are ballerinas on ice (Tessa has classical ballet training so watching her was always a treat for fans)
A
Avaelectric • 3 points
I think his skating is so superior it makes almost any partner look better, look what it did to up Laurence’s game. I’m sure he and Tessa would be amazing together.

klein_four_group • 34 points
Lowkey a bit bummed for P2 that they couldn’t be as joyous during the medal ceremony due to the overall tense vibes.
G
General-Law-7338 • 28 points
They were screwed over by their own federation. They could have won Silver medal if Skate Canada didn’t stab them in the back.
2
29kk • 1 points
I do understand that their hands were tied due to Sorensen’s suspension, but I’m still astonished that Skate Canada released Laurence so quickly.
K
Komatoasty • 17 points
This is the worst part about it honestly, but I dont think P2 were feeling that in the moment. They just wanted to celebrate the moment but the tension was overwhelming.
S
squeezeboxcryptid • 33 points
I’m wondering if we might see Lopareva/Brissaud jump ship from IAM, given how they quickly became the blatantly unfavored children of Team France at the school the instant that FB/C paired up. It also feels possibly relevant that Geoffrey B. is besties with Solène Mazingue, and so would have been around when she filed the complaint against Desyatov that the IAM coaches allegedly didn’t take seriously…we will see how it shakes out.
A
Apprehensive_Disk_16 • 28 points
If I were C/B I would be FUMING. They know how much politics and who the coaches are propping plays into all of this. I hope Z/K at this point know never to go NEAR them.

First time watcher of figure skating here: I’m confused but the schedule. I just watched the free dance on peacock referred to as “part 2”. Madi and Evan skated to the same song and wore the same outfits from a couple days back so I honestly thought it was a rebroadcast. Was today the second part of their matador routine for final scoring?
A
atllauren • 2 points
The “part 1” “part 2” thing is a weird NBC broadcasting thing. The first half of today’s competition was broadcast on USA and then the latter half on NBC, so if you’re watching on Peacock you have to still change events like you’re changing the channel. It’s weird, and I’m not sure why it is like that. I swear during the Paris games that Peacock was a lot more seamless where you could watch an event live independent of the network broadcasting it. But yes as others said, this same program was also skated a few days ago as part of the team event so it is also the second time Madi & Evan skated this exact program in the Milan games.
C
carcar2110 • 8 points
The one done a few days ago was for the team event – it’s a little confusing to explain, but the skaters in the team event skate the same programs they use for the individual event, so if you watch both events you’ll see repeat programs because of that 😅
I
iyesshirai • 3 points
There’s two competitions, the team event and the individual event. (The team event is country versus country, essentially.) The former was last week. Both include the same rhythm dance and free dance (short and long program), so everyone who does both the team and individual events performs their programs twice.

All year, FB/C have received very generous GOE on one or two elements. I had a feeling that would happen here. The judges did punish them for twizzles. https://preview.redd.it/81yqi1qfyxig1.png?width=1612&format=png&auto=webp&s=df1ebbc7a4bf1aa221394c255c6931133c36c161

Yeah US is due now. USFSA gotta be big mad about this.

Any other Fed would NOT have released her to go up against G/P for another country after investing so much in sending her out internationally for them for years. Canada is too diplomatic I wonder if they’re kicking themselves now.
A
artstoria99 • 12 points
I’m gonna be annoyed at Canadian Fed just bc if they wouldn’t release her Charlene and Marco would have gotten bronze and P2 would have gotten silver.
B
BlahVans • 3 points
P2 were knocked out of fighting for #1 with FB/C – at this time last year they were considered contenders for gold. Imagine the score their FD would have received if they weren’t knocked out of that consideration by FB/C. Skate Canada’s decision didn’t only lose P2 the silver, it kept them out of conversation for gold.
T
theusedlu • 3 points
righttt i would’ve loved charlene and marco bronze and p2 silver
S
sparklypavements • 2 points
I mean they train the majority of ice dancers now. Like everyone and their mothers are trained in Montreal so I don’t think Canada cares that much about medals. They’re all for the sport.
G
GalateaPygmalion • 16 points
Why did Canadian Fed even release her
A
Apprehensive_Disk_16 • 35 points
Whoever’s decision it was should be let go. They aren’t doing their job. She wouldn’t have been shit without Skate Canada investing in her for years. Something like this never should have happened in an Olympic year when a Canadian team had a realistic shot at Gold.
A
Avaelectric • 2 points
So their job is to keep a skater who no longer has a partner captive?
K
kaesura • 7 points
Because of the politics of banning her partner It left her partnerless without her committing a rule violation. So unless they had a good partner for her, it would be iffy for them to hold out on her switching federations. French and Canadian federations are also close
P
pink_faerie_kitten • 13 points
That’s why we all feel so blindsided. This shouldn’t have happened. This kind of thing doesn’t happen because feds put up fights normally. What the actual hell was Canada thinking? P2 absolutely had a shot at gold after they won 4CCs last year. They’d have a silver tonight if not for releasing fb. Ugh.
A
Apprehensive_Disk_16 • 10 points
G/P was pushed DOWN this season to accommodate for Gold medal fight between C/B and the French. It’s ALL politics. The ISU is always wanting to keep it interesting at the top. If not for FB/C the story of the season would have been C/B vs G/P for this Gold medal. G/P scores would have stayed competitive even if C/B had the slight edge. It would have been close enough that anything could have happened. G/P have an excellent FD and they CRUSHED it tonight. Who knows in the alternate universe where they would have been allowed to stay in contention they might have gone ahead and Canada would be pocketing an OGM.

I wonder what kind of inside baseball was played for that. Did IAM exert influence?
