Reddit would never add a country of origin tag despite them showing you the views per country in the advanced analytics of every comment and post. Edit: for example this comment as of 9:30a EST has 500 views with 73% from the US, 8% from Canada, and 3% from the UK

It was the anti trump 50501 sub, and then after that came out the instantly said it was a psyop or something.

Other comment found it. Was the 50501 sub. Was wrong in that it’s not the majority, but just about half. The comments in the post are still funny (assuming they’re not bots). https://www.reddit.com/r/50501/comments/1n2s41z/russian_ip_addresses_on_this_sub/

Agreed. The country of origin being included is **great**. Someone’s talking about how America is awful, I check their account, and it turns out they’re from India! Now I know what they say doesn’t have any value.

Imagine community notes on news and political subs without the ability to turn them off or remove them. The mods would turn off the subs in protest 😀

>they used to only exist on pro trump posts that didnt break twitters rules but twitter admins didn’t want to risk wrong think Trump got real mad about that. He likes to lie to the people without any pushback, >Twitter has placed a fact-checking warning on a pair of tweets issued by President Trump in which he claims without evidence that mail-in ballots are fraudulent. Twitter’s move on Tuesday marks the first time the technology company has sanctioned Trump as criticism mounts about how the president has amplified misinformation to more than 80 million followers on the social media platform. Trump responded by accusing Twitter of stifling free speech. > >Twitter spokesman Trenton Kennedy told NPR that while the tweet about mail-in voting does not violate Twitter’s rules since “it does not directly try to dissuade people from voting,” it does contain “misleading information about the voting process, specifically mail-in ballots.” https://www.npr.org/2020/05/26/862797418/twitter-points-users-to-fact-checks-of-trump-tweets-for-the-first-time

I always post this article from Vitalik Buterin (creator of Ethereum) praising the algorithm behind Community Notes: https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2023/08/16/communitynotes.html It really is brilliant, and every social media platform should do it.

It’s not spun by a website like snopes that doesn’t actually “fact check” but rather reinforces propaganda. That’s why “FACT CHECKED” became such a meme.
W
washingtonu • -34 points
News became “fake news” because the people being scrutinized didn’t like it. Fact checks became “propaganda” when people who lied didn’t like someone pointing out their lies with sources. And that propaganda worked! Just look at how many people just reply with “lol snopes/cnn/bbc/abc they are not a real source” when they don’t want to read. >It’s not spun by a website like snopes that doesn’t actually “fact check” but rather reinforces propaganda. Could you post 3-5 propaganda pieces from snopes? Thank you.
B
BlackwatchBluesteel • 14 points
Haha NOPE we aren’t going to do that revisionist history thing here. “Fake News” as a term became a thing because legacy media (CNN at the lead here) initially used it as a hamfisted battering ram against Trump’s very immature nature to exaggerate or be hyperbolic about literally everything. This was before his first term. Trump would say something completely unserious and certain media groups would immediately label it as “dangerous misinformation”. It was also used as some sort of “gotcha” against any remotely conservative satire, jokes, and sarcasm. That was of course cringe and ridiculous. Very quickly Trump turned it around after mainstream media platforms pushed forward low quality reporting and self referential nonsense that wasn’t actually news but rather propaganda – often anonymous leaks with unprovable claims. There were outrageous headlines with the source being “people familiar with the so and so’s way of thinking, people close to whoever” ie “my source is that I made it the fuck up”. As an example Buzzfeed’s article about the Russian KGB having some sort of kompromat on Trump involving a piss orgy with Russian prostitutes. The “source” turned out to be the Steele Dossier which was made by a former MI6 agent who was paid by the DNC. A majority of the claims in the dossier were salacious nonsense on par with tabloid journalism. This had a cascading effect on American journalistic integrity where it was shown that you can do and say whatever you want as long as you are just “reporting” on someone else’s slander or libel. After Trump became enemy number 1 for liberal media groups there were numerous examples of outright lies by news organizations like CNN and those examples were plastered on social media, especially Facebook on X. Community notes played a huge part in showing how things are mischaracterized or misrepresented to influence people on a massive scale. “Fact checking” took on a negative connotation because people found many instances of incorrect or misleading “fact checks”. Snopes labeled multiple articles from the Babylon Bee (a satirical website) as “false” and was shown to have an absurd bias with their use of “mostly true”/”mostly false” for certain political candidates, so much so that Facebook limited their usage as a “fact checker”. After this happened Trump began using it as a smear against any and all criticism of his campaigns and administration, legitimate or not, real or imagined. Now, pretty much everyone on any side with any strong political beliefs uses the term to describe unfavorable news since websites like Reddit encourage such hyper-specialized echo chambers and allows shameless propaganda. In the era of AI, alternative media, and low journalistic standards diminishing further for the sake of sensationalism there is a lot of “fake news” and no one side is guilt free.

No links I see? Even though I asked you about it and I see that you bring up the same old complaints about CNN, Buzzfeed and so on? I want to read it for myself, that’s why I wrote “Could you post 3-5 propaganda pieces from snopes? Thank you” if you remember enough to paraphrase them you should be able to post a link. Should I just take what you say at face value? >As an example Buzzfeed’s article about the Russian KGB having some sort of kompromat on Trump involving a piss orgy with Russian prostitutes. The “source” turned out to be the Steele Dossier which was made by a former MI6 agent who was paid by the DNC. A majority of the claims in the dossier were salacious nonsense on par with tabloid journalism. Here’s that article, posted January 10, 2017 https://web.archive.org/web/20250926150328/https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kenbensinger/these-reports-allege-trump-has-deep-ties-to-russia Buzzfeed got criticized for that at the time by companies that is not to be compared with tabloid journalism. Snopes even wrote about how it was unverified and all the criticism it got from credible media companies. I can see that you wrote about “a majority” of the claims was nonsense but you only give “a piss orgy with Russian prostitutes” as example. What did you think about the articles that didn’t mention any pee? Mother Jones and Yahoo both wrote about it before Buzzfeed.

Yellow journalism doesn’t exist. CNN, Fox, and the other news mega-conglomerates would never publish false or misleading information and then issue a much smaller retraction knowing that the initial reporting would receive far more reach than the later edit. Youtubers and anonymous accounts on X or discord would absolutely never do that either, as we both know these bastions of virtue would never tolerate falsehoods. Snopes fact-checking some retarded Facebook meme about “Aliens refusing to vote for Hillary Clinton” is actually vital for the integrity of democracy because someone might easily be swayed by this. Certainly not an above 200 IQ person such as yourself though. I remember when all the Russian Collusion stuff turned out to be real and Trump was executed for treason based on the irrefutable evidence against him that he was in fact a Russian spy. Man, I would have been able to get away with it too, if it weren’t for that massive brain you have hidden under your fedora. FOILED AGAIN!” Okay, now that your retarded daydream is over…legs just post 3-5 propaganda pieces from snopes, here is there entire section on Babylon Bee where they consistently imply that satire (protected under the 1st amendment) is dangerous misinformation: >Same old complaints I’ll stop with the same old complaints when they stop with the same old “conveniently cuts away from the feed when the narrative isn’t going well”. Imagine defending CNN in 2026. Even with airports they have less viewership than some youtubers in no small part because of the fact that they are so distrusted. >What did you think about the articles… I am unfortunately cursed with the knowledge and common sense that claims based on opposition research by desperate stateless mercenaries is generally a bad idea…so I didn’t consider them to be worth much. Surprise surprise they weren’t. From all we know in 2026 it’s more surprising to find out who *wasn’t* interfering in American elections since the EU, Israel, Russia, and China all had a hand through social media. Which is not startling or surprising information if you are capable of tying your shoelaces.

>”Whoa! You got me. I actually just made all that up. Yellow journalism doesn’t exist. CNN, Fox, and the other news mega-conglomerates would never publish false or misleading information and then issue a much smaller retraction knowing that the initial reporting would receive far more reach than the later edit. You say they did and I want to read it. What’s so difficult about that? You brought up pretty specific examples about Trump’s jokes and how fake news CNN was mean about it. I have one example of that happening, >Kellyanne Conway on Friday defended President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to remain an executive producer on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” even as he takes office, arguing that “presidents have a right to do things in their spare time.” > >“He’s a very transparent guy. Everyone can see what he’s doing, and the fact is that he is conferring with all types of experts who tell him what he can do and not do as President of the United States,” Conway, a top Trump adviser and his former campaign manager, said on CNN’s “New Day.” “If this is one of the approved activities, then perhaps he will consider staying on.” > >Trump’s agreement with the show, first reported by Variety and confirmed by sources at NBC and the Trump campaign, means the president will have an interest in a show aired by a media company that also reports on his presidency – a major conflict of interest for the network. > >“Were we so concerned about the hours and hours and hours spent on the golf course of the current president? I mean presidents have a right to do things in their spare time, in their leisure time,” Conway argued. > >“I heard you object to Mr. Obama playing golf. Will Mr. Trump not be playing golf for the next four years?” host Alisyn Camerota countered. > >“Well, maybe he will be,” Conway answered. “It certainly seems like there is a lot of time to do based on recent precedent while you’re president the united states. But the point is the same. Whether it’s President Obama or president Donald Trump, the idea that these men are going to be all work and nothing else all the time is just unrealistic because it’s never happened in our lifetimes.” > >The former Trump campaign manager said that the President-elect’s “work is his work and work his hobby,” adding that his “preferred time is with his family, but it’s followed very closely behind with his work.” > >White House spokesman Eric Schultz dismissed the comparison between Trump’s producer credit and Obama’s golf outings. > >“I’m not quite sure that analogy holds any water, but look that’s going to be a question for the President-elect’s team, and maybe our friends from NBC, about how that relationship might work,” Schultz said. CNN (December 9, 2016) https://edition.cnn.com/2016/12/09/politics/conway-defends-trump-apprentice >Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump >Reports by @CNN that I will be working on The Apprentice during my Presidency, even part time, are ridiculous & untrue – FAKE NEWS! I have NOTHING to do with The Apprentice except for fact that I conceived it with Mark B & have a big stake in it. Will devote ZERO TIME! If “fact checking” jokes from a satirical website that leans in a political direction doesn’t strike you as biased I really don’t think any other evidence I would provide would satisfy your nonsensical burden of proof. It’s not like they are also doing a weekly fact check/satire label on left-leaning late night shows. That’s very obviously selective narrative reinforcement you dummy.
S
soft_taco_special • 2 points
Except that virtually all media content label as “fact checking” is a thinly veiled shell game to present false credibility and the illusion of non partisanship. Journalists doing their jobs should be sufficient fact checking and if it isn’t then those same outlets putting on a “fact checker” hat and saying the same thing changes nothing. Community notes are fundamentally different in that their very structure aligns incentives with reporting the truth. Raising the scores of notes that highly partisan users agree on makes it very difficult to manipulate as manipulation dilutes the value of the user’s ratings.

Community notes launched on Twitter in 2021. They were popularized in March in 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Elon didn’t buy twitter until October of 2022. But go off I guess.
