Isn’t Kid Rock early millennial?
F
fuzzypatters • 1 points
No, he was born in 1971.
L
levi070305 • 1 points
I mean his influence

I guess it’s hard to understand unless you were there, but Kid Rock was unpopular with a large part of GenX because of stuff like this. He did appeal to a certain crowd, Republicans lol. It makes me think of George W Bush, I hated him in that era, I felt that he was stupid and that 9/11 happened under his watch but now he seems like a cool guy compared to Orange Man.

Clinton was a terrible person. I say this as a liberal Democrat. He was actually a good president, but a terrible person. Not on the level of the current satan in chief, but still terrible. If you don’t know that, then that is on you.
C
cholmes • 1 points
I would even argue he wasn’t that good as president but the economy was good so there you go.

Mysterious_Swim599 • 1 points
Gen X here. I half agree. Kid Rock is the face of conservative Gen X. Beer swillin’, hell raisin’, white trashin’, no shits givin’, flag wavin’, Jesus worshippin’, lady bangin’, dope smokin’, heterosexual to a fault, conservative Gen X. He’s their dude. That’s not me at all. That faction of Gen X is an embarrassment.

manny_the_mage • 1 points
I like how everybody here is hyper focusing on Kid Rock and not the fact that Gen Xer culture is definitely mean spirited There are so many examples of not only Gen Xers being generally mean spirited as teenagers in the 80s but even as adults in the 90s and 2000s I wouldn’t agree in saying Gen X culture is “vulgar” but Trump definitely secured a sizeable portion of the Gen X vote for a reason
O
Old_Goat_Ninja • 1 points
lol, so now you’re offended by something that happened before you were born? But yeah, somehow you think GenX is the problem.
S
SignificantApricot69 • 1 points
Calling Kid Rock representative of Gen X culture is weird. Is GG Allin representative of Boomer culture? Who represents, Gen Z- some random Only Fans porn star?
Y
your_fave_redditor • 1 points
Yeah, this is a strange stance: “Kid Rock is/was a turd—>Kid Rock’s Gen X—>all of Gen X were/are turds.
I
icepyrox • 1 points
Kid rock is leading TP USA halftime for a reason. He is the GenX that Boomers wanted us to be so they could point fingers. Sure, we did a lot of “shock factor” cringe things trying to get everyone’s attention after being literally left alone for a decade or more, but it was all front, no back. If we were truly mean to you, its because you were a true asshat and/or authoritarian.
G
Grump_NP • 1 points
I don’t think contrast of generational zeitgeist is key message I would go with here. More like the staggering hypocrisy of an organization representing the “Christian” moral majority incorporating someone of such moral turpitude in one of the their events. These people wouldn’t recognize Christ if he walked up and slapped them in the face.
T
throwawaymumm • 1 points
He had a very niche fan base. And by “niche” I mean white trash losers.
O
Outside_Revolution47 • 1 points
He was popular on campuses for a year and then everyone made fun of him. That’s what I remember.

How specific to take that single moment.
T
TemperatureHot204 • 1 points
Right, I mean by 99 I wasn’t listening to that kind of music at all and I’m definitely GenX. Also, grabbing one public figure and saying he’s a whole generation? BS.
J
Johnnys-In-America • 1 points
No, you’re right. Back then it was perfectly normal to embrace negative stereotypes, be obnoxiously crass, act like anyone who displayed even the slightest bit of emotion was ‘too much,’ a weirdo, even crazy. To get by, you had to go by the whole philosophy of, “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. So for real, everyone was rude and sarcastic and extremely judgmental, lest you be tossed aside as an outcast. As a Xennial Xer, dudes, it was a breath of fresh air to see Millennials grabbing the reins and beginning to fight against that stuff. It’s really how I felt deep down, and often something I had to keep hiding. Until I started chatting and interacting with Millennials in forums and blogs and what have you. Seriously, thank you guys for rewriting the script because we needed it. You might not hear an older Xer say that, sadly, but screw ’em, I guess! I’ve got much love for you guys. And all your amazing music. You guys are the shit.

Some xennials remember the struggles against censorship and for free expression and thought. Free expression is more important than not hurting someone’s feelings.
S
Seymour—Butz • 1 points
Since when is Kid Rock representative of Gen-X culture? That’s a fresh take.
G
GrowHappyPlants • 1 points
He is a terrible person and absolutely not embraced by all GenX, just the bullies and idiots.
L
levi070305 • 1 points
His age lines up but his appeal was more to early millennial
K
kido86 • 1 points
Yeah it’s much better now, with people filming themselves being cunts to people in public, Alpha male podcast moaning about body counts, chicks rage baiting men about height, everyone calling people they don’t agree with nazi It was so mean spirited back then!
G
GrowHappyPlants • 1 points
The problem is that MAGA is literally following thr Nazi playback but is to far down the propaganda to be self-aware anymore, so they think people don’t like their opinions when it is their lack of basic decency that is a problem.
R
Roi_singe • 1 points
Kind of weird to take Kid Rock as THE Gen x musical icon? It would be like using Kanye West in the future as the representation of Gen z music
S
SignificantApricot69 • 1 points
Kanye West is Gen X, though. But like I said in my comment I guess Boomers could be represented by someone like GG Allin by this logic.
R
Roi_singe • 1 points
Yeah I know Kanye West is gen-X, however his public and his fans are mostly gen-z and young millenials, and the cultural environment in wich he participated is closer by far to Gen-z
T
TurkGonzo75 • 1 points
Absolutely insane that you pick Kid Rock of all people to sum up an entire generation of people. lol
C
Chance-Cockroach7345 • 1 points
“Most” is something you just made up
B

Isn’t this from Woodstock 99? I was a kindergartener that year, so all of my information is from reading about it in the 2010s. But based on what I do know of it, it was a shit show. I have many criticisms of Gen X, but the fact that this shit show of a Woodstock didn’t do well should tell us that this is a bad representation of what’s wrong with Gen X. Like, if anything, the fact that this didn’t appeal to them at the time is a good thing.
L
Low_Roller_Vintage • 1 points
No generation claims Kid Rock as theirs, BTW. Fuck that guy.
T
Theloneus-punk • 1 points
Yeah. He was a joke from the beginning. MTV just promoted the hell out of him for some reson. Around that time if it wasn’t kid rock it was LMFAO or whoever else was clinging to that sinking ship before it turned in to the Jersey Shore channel.
P
Prize_Compote_207 • 1 points
True but I dont see him as Gen X culture *at all.* Kid Rock was around the same time as Eminem. That’s elder millennial culture.
S
SchoolOfYardKnocks • 1 points
Millennial who grew up near Detroit who listened to both lol. He’s easy to hate on but we liked them at the time as edgy teenagers. They were both straight up trailer trash doing the rap thing and both could be funny and good entertainers and put on good shows. I mean I think it’s basically straight out of idiocracy that he’s doing republican shows and stuff now but he’s an entertainer not a role model.
O
Old-Base8752 • 1 points
He’s not mean spirited. He’s an entertainer thus, he entertains.
G
GrowHappyPlants • 1 points
Do you lack comprehension of his entire catalog of music? There are no examples of him being decent or kind. It is all trashy.
J
Josh5459 • 1 points
all of woodstock 99 was fucked
Z
ZeroKarmasGiven69 • 1 points
Kid rock is trash. That being said, how is Jackass and CKY so funny when people are getting hurt…
Y
yanknga • 1 points
Kid Rock is an outlier piece of shit. Every generation is going to have total dickheads. He’s one of ours.
A
AHorseNamedPhil • 1 points
The OP is a bit like using Jake Paul as a standard bearer for Gen Z or Lena Dunham as representing all Millenials.
O
Ok_Conclusion_6324 • 1 points
There is no way his bullshit was an outlier – all that “little blue dress” bullshit and nationwide slut shaming of a young intern is easily researched and Monica has spoke at length about it

Ikr? The copes in this thread are hilarious. Like we all didn’t live through it.
T

You had to be there, man.
T
theartistduring • 1 points
Surely this is rage bait? Kid Rock is the furthest this from a general representative of Gen X. His popularity was incredibly narrow. While he was obviously famous and successful, he wasn’t exactly popular. He’s closer to niche.
T
TurkGonzo75 • 1 points
We used to make fun of him. He was basically an edgy, redneck Vanilla Ice
G
gorambrowncoat • 1 points
Maybe lets not take kid rock as the pinnacle of 90s culture 🙂 Not saying the decade didn’t have its issues but he is hardly the representative.
J
joshua_addison_music • 1 points
Kid rock isnt Gen X culture
O
Odd-Feedback9607 • 1 points
I was born at the tail end of Gen X…. we hated him too. He was more for elder millennials, I was 19-20 when he broke big.
O
OnlyGuestsMusic • 1 points
Exactly. X was all adults, even the youngest of them, when this guy popped off. He’s an Xer, but most of his fanbase is elder millennials.
