I’d imagine when you perform the same song over and over it becomes a little easier to just go by muscle memory but still massive kudos to him. Having my own voice play in my ear would 100% have me tripping over my words even if it was just a single track

Yeah I think he couldn’t hear the rest of the music. I’m not a fan and don’t particularly like his music but I do think that this was an unfortunate technical issue that could have happened to anyone, and he recovered as best as he could.

Wasn’t pitchy at all? His in ear monitors giving him a click track to keep on time broke so he had to use his best guess from the arena sound. Was hugely impressed by how quickly he caught back up and was able to finish

And the arena noise is all latent and he had to do that crazy lift so no stopping that train

The walk in from the concourse was a silly idea and boy when he hit the stairs he was off by a full beat at least, right? And he had that cue to hit for the lift. The MD on stage must have reset the downbeat, I haven’t rewatched to see, would have been a pretty visible gesture!

I felt for him. You could see the absolute panic in his eyes as soon as it started. He took his ear piece out then (as this sound was probably hell) and was completely off the track. His band half rescued it. Sucks for his first grammy performance but lowkey everyone’s feeling for him now otherwise he might have just been labelled boring.
