Why Is ashes of creation Trending Today?

The keyword “ashes of creation” is currently trending due to significant developments within the game’s development studio, Intrepid Studios. The resignation of studio head Steven Sharif in protest has raised alarms regarding the state and future of the highly anticipated MMORPG. His departure marks a critical turning point for the project, which has attracted attention due to its ongoing creation process and community engagement.

Reports indicate that there is substantial turmoil behind the scenes, with TheGamer highlighting claims that the project is “completely imploding.” This suggests a level of crisis management is required, which could directly influence the game’s launch timelines and overall viability. Such dramatic changes in leadership and operational direction typically attract heightened interest from both potential players and industry observers.

Further compounding this situation, Evrim Ağacı reported on a leadership exodus that has left the project facing a crisis. The culmination of these events has evidently led to an increase in search interest, as individuals are keen to stay informed about the implications for “Ashes of Creation” and its development trajectory at a time of uncertainty. The combination of executive turnover and potential instability within the project has likely spurred a significant surge in searches as the community seeks clarity on the situation.

I hate to say it but, we told you so. The Steam release reeked of a last ditch pump and dump scam, honestly all AoC players should take part in a class action lawsuit against this creep.

They can’t, though; a Steam release is enough to cover the Kickstarter, which is why it was done.
K
Kevadu • 328 points
There is no legal requirement to ‘cover’ a Kickstarter. Plenty of Kickstarter projects have not delivered anything at all. When you back something on Kickstarter you are assuming that risk.
G
General-Oven-1523 • 90 points
Only if you’re stupid enough to write down that you’ll pay people back fully if the game doesn’t release.
A
Akiza_Izinski • 89 points
The game released. Your money is gone.
J
JefferyTheQuaxly • 89 points
What op is saying is that ashes of creation’s kickstart literally said they would give refunds if they did not release th game, which is why they forced it onto steam so they technically released it and don’t need to give refunds anymore

RobCarrotStapler • 43 points
Is this not just a longer way of describing what the comment you’re replying to stated?

I love watching when two people argue and don’t realize they’re on the same side

It’s kind of weird that Steam early access actually would fulfill the legal requirements of the kickstarter, since they plaster “this is early access/not a final product” across them? But then again, I do agree with you and assume it probably does because they would have consulted lawyers to see what the bare minimum would have been to avoid the lawsuits
D
Darkwarz • 36 points
There is no legal requirement to the kickstarter, kickstarter tells you when you purchase something that it is not a preorder
G
General-Oven-1523 • 22 points
You are correct, and that’s why this isn’t about the platform itself. It’s about what is being said on their Kickstarter page. I doubt anyone would have an interest in challenging it in court after such a long time, but you never know. https://preview.redd.it/mccz7tov0tgg1.png?width=533&format=png&auto=webp&s=1359c5b184c053105aecd7a4501260f0b6432502

I always try to explain this to people. Casuals pay the bills. I have maybe 4-5 hours a week to play these days, and if I see a cool cosmetic set I can buy, I’ll buy it! I won’t spend what little time I have grinding. I don’t like the term, but I’m definitely a more casual player, even if I do still concern myself with minmax shit. Hardcore players are the tiny minority. They grief the easy kill casuals until they quit, then they only have each other, and they don’t want to spend or improve, they just want to cannibalize and quit. I’ve never met one of these hardcore wannabe tough dudes who didn’t spend all their time making YouTube videos stomping newbies to look tough. Look at the most profitable, most successful games. They’re all casual friendly. Hardcore PvP games simply don’t last unless they got lucky and released back before there were really enough viable alternatives. Look at EVE, quite possibly the only hardcore game that’s holding on. You think a spreadsheet with toxicity and ship JPEGs releasing in 2026 would survive? I’d be very interested to know the average account age that isn’t an alt account.

mokujin42 • 12 points
Theres no distinction in mmos between hardcore players and unemployed poeple, they cater to those who dont work full time and then act suprised when their playerbase dont buy things
D
DreadedFistNW • 7 points
I don’t PvP anymore. Not since 2002ish in Everquest and you’re totally right. The PvPers are done once all the sheep are gone and they have to to fight other wolves too.
M
Mindshard • 11 points
Man, remember Wildstar? Kept listening to the hardcore players, making the game more and more toxic with each change, and then all the hardcore players got bored having to fight each other instead of stomping half a dozen newbs at a time, so they all quit, and the devs realized way too late that they were taking advice from the very people killing their game, and shut it down. Now look at the big money games. Fortnite, Roblox, Genshin Impact/latest gacha game of the identical style (really all those gacha games are money printing machines), etc. If a company wants money, they just have to cater to casuals, have enough content to keep people busy without making it an endless grind, and have tons of cosmetic microtransactions. That’s it. No one wants 12 hour raids or warzones. Those of us who grew up on ridiculous games like that are too old and too busy, and the kids are all used to drop in drop out 5 minute matches, and don’t have the attention span for that. Hell, I got into Soulframe recently, and it’s fun! Barely any goals at this early stage of development, but it’s just a ton of fun to explore. No PvP, no grind, no stress, just fun. I’m not that old, but I’m too old for the BS that the old games put us through, and the toxic dinks are fewer and further between. I just want positive vibes, and maybe some optional PvP.

Few weeks ago, I was criticized on this sub for calling it Ashes of Scam. Well, well, well… I guess we were just “haters” because we hate MMOs? No, we love MMOs, but we are simply being realistic. Calling out the obvious ≠ hating.
S
system_error_02 • 15 points
Yup this was my exact thought. The steam release was a hail Mary attempt to grab cash that failed

Remember how just a few weeks ago they kept telling you how everything is fine ? Yeah…

Finally. I feel bad for the devs, but the cult around this scam was obnoxious.

Yep, one of the many alarms. If pirate and asmon are on board nothing good can come of it

Don’t worry star citizen is still pumping right along so a lot of them will find a new home soon enough.
A
Ancient-Beat-1614 • 32 points
I think this has made it clear star citizen is nothing like this.
B
BusBoatBuey • 19 points
Well yeah, Star Citizen made several orders of magnitude more in revenue. This game dried up the well and was actually forced to “release.”
X
Xasf • 12 points
Sshh we don’t do nuance here, you’re going to scare them.
B
Boulderchunk • 21 points
bro it’s not a scam bro, it’s just a crowdfunded ship-selling simulator that’s been in development for 14 years and has raised nearly a billion dollars with nothing to show for it but a buggy, mostly unplayable alpha, promises that it’s “90% done, seriously this time, guys”, and at least one yacht for the CEO. not a scam, bro
P
Potato_fortress • 17 points
Don’t forget the part where an audit has revealed twice now that they’re on the hook for a cool 70 million to cayman island investors lol.
B
Boulderchunk • 13 points
Ah right, that’s why Chris Roberts needed the yacht, of course. To sail to his game studio in the Cayman Islands so he can work hard on making more ship advertisements for their store. Checkmate, unbelievers. At this point, I think the people who don’t think it’s a scam are just people who physically cannot accept the reality that it just might be a scam because they’ve spent so much money on the “game”. Basing that on someone that I personally know who has said exactly that because he’s spent *at least* multiple thousand dollars on the ship packages, lmao. He wouldn’t say exactly how much he spent but I know it’s A LOT.

It was so obvious that anyone who’s a piece of shit enough to sell cancer patients juice and claim it cures them is obviously going to be a piece of shit for the rest of their life. I was so tired of arguing that because he was 18 he made a mistake and learned. –
