The rising search interest in the keyword “is the government shut down” can be attributed to the recent developments in federal funding discussions. Reports from news outlets such as CNN highlight concerns expressed by House minority leader regarding Republican reliance on Democrats to pass the funding bill, which has led to fears of an extended government shutdown. This uncertainty surrounding legislative negotiations is prompting many individuals to seek clarity on the current government status.

Additionally, PBS has provided insights on the implications of a partial government shutdown, detailing its potential impact on various federal services and programs. This information is crucial for citizens who may be affected by the shutdown’s operational scope, driving them to search for up-to-date information about the situation.

Furthermore, The Washington Post has reported that while most of the federal government is currently shut down, there may be a swift resolution on the horizon. Such reports are likely fueling queries among the public as they look for confirmation and further details about the shutdown and prospective timelines for its resolution. The interplay of these informational signals contributes to the increased volume of searches around the topic.

So we shut down Monday and open back up on Tuesday, great use of resources.

No we shutdown today, your agency might not have personnel to do shutdown procedures on the weekend so it occurs when you come in on Monday but any agency that wasn’t funded prior to this is most definitely shutdown regardless of what MAJCOM or anyone else says (my unit at first said things would go on as usual until I asked who was going to pay the $85K due on Monday to a contractor but isn’t funded yet lol).

This is wild because SSA allowed us to work OT today.
Y
yummidulce • 5 points
my office canceled OT today because of shutdown. they denied everyone OT request yesterday
A
Ancient_Zebra_647 • 1 points
IRS has said we’re exempt for 5 business days and is letting us work OT like normal. I worked OT today.

Tunafishgirl22 • 52 points
You’re way too optimistic. There are no guarantees. The house is a true wild card here.
I
IDK_Maybe126 • 25 points
They have the votes. This is barely a shutdown.
T
Tunafishgirl22 • 23 points
The house Dems just came out and said they wouldn’t help pass under suspension of rules. That means they have to go to rules to unlock a simple majority vote. It’s gonna slow things down. Also the house will probably try to attach the SAVE act which would require going back through the senate. Nothings guaranteed to be quick here. Once a shutdown starts it’s harder to get out of.

Former-Sock-8256 • 3 points
That doesn’t make sense – the suspicion of rules is supposed to help avoid the conservatives fighting the ICE limitations. So why would dems fight that? (Honest question, I don’t understand)
T
Tunafishgirl22 • 3 points
I don’t know. Maybe Jeffries doesn’t like the deal Schumer made. Maybe he thinks the Rs should just have to pass things on their own and doesn’t want to help. I haven’t seen any explanation just the position Jeffries laid out

Could you provide the link where you saw that?

Rules committee won’t meet until 4p Monday.
M
MoneyMoontz • 5 points
Well then the democrats need to vocally unanimously support the current resolution. If the GOP shuts down the govt to add the SAVE ACT that would be a death sentence for mid terms (if not already)
H
Hot-Bumblebee7429 • 0 points
And keep funding ICE? You sleep well at night with that?
M
MoneyMoontz • 4 points
The resolution is a 2 week CR for DHS. The rest of the govt would be funded thru September. It would be a huge win for democrats as-is because they could hold out on further funding for DHS after that period and would have all the negotiation leverage.

Keep funding the agency that is following federal immigration law and getting violent illegals out of MY country? That “ICE”? Yes, I sleep VERY well with that, tyvm.
B
Blueridge-Badger • 1 points
There’s a lot of laws and policies they’re breaking too. Some in DHS think they are an embarrassment bringing hatred to DHS employees that have nothing to do with that mission.

New_Bug900 • 33 points
I wouldn’t mind if it hit a snag and we got off the whole week.

They damn near take off every Friday. But, yeah their schedule is pretty relaxed. Remember that when Congress calls other lazy. https://rollcall.com/app/uploads/2026/01/2026CQRCCongressionalCalendar012326.pdf

I feel for my federal coworkers that have to go through another shutdown! I’m with an agency that doesn’t have to suffer this. I’ve been through 6 shutdowns in my federal career and the last one took the cake on previous shutdowns.
S
Suspicious_Solid2535 • 13 points
That is true. Not to “One Up” you or anything, but I’ve been Federally employed through 20 of the 21 Shutdowns starting with the smiling Peanut Farmer.

I know someone who got to 50 years, still working. I’m in awe.

47 here and thanks. I’ll take that as a compliment. Have a great week!

As a contractor, I’m jealous. Sucks to work and not get paid, and this last one was the worst, but there is back pay and a lot of banks will work with you on it. My gov friends were just bored at work and spent a lot of time in the office gym. As a Contractor, your just burn pto until you stop getting a paycheck. I’m overhead and even I had to take 4 weeks of pto. A lot of people don’t have thay much pto and just lost paychecks. My company refused to take a loss on the quarterly reports and just made the employees take the L. But the stock price is at an all time high!

Interesting… our contractors worked the whole thing and got paid. I am guessing they were prepaid for that period.

Ya same varies by department

Ours did too. But eventually the money was going to run out.
S
seaships • 1 points
Same I’m working capital funded so I still get paid to work. However it still affects my day to day job since about half the folks I work with on a daily basis get furloughed.
D
Davey-Fuckitt • 50 points
OP EDIT: Right after I posted this, there was news that suspension vote (2/3) may not be used since Dems are saying they won’t support. This means a majority vote, which will be very difficult since both Dems and Freedom Caucus GOP may vote No. So…it got tricker in the last 15 minutes!! 😂
F
flaginorout • 17 points
‘Some’ dems will vote No. The Senate passed this like 70-30. So plenty of democrats voted for it. I’m sure the house is the same way. Will they get 2/3rds? Probably not. But they’ll pass something this week.
M

Schrödinger’s shutdown.

Underrated comment right here.

My agency said “we’ve lapsed, you’re furloughed, jk, you’re not essential but come to work anyway, but just in case check back Monday morning” because this is a total circus, obvs
T
Tunafishgirl22 • 27 points
The Dems won’t help the Rs pass this under suspension. Jeffries just stated that. It’s gonna have to go through rules committee.
D
Davey-Fuckitt • 12 points
Yep I had to post an edit. I saw that news like 10min after I posted the Politico article

Where are you seeing this? I saw that he opposes passing DHS stuff, but agreeing as-is to the others.
