One of the funniest Canadians of all time. R.I.P.
A

She was just seeing a major second act resurgence too. Between the Home Alone throwbacks, Beetlejuice and Schitt’s Creek, she had so much more to share
P
Pissflaps69 • 450 points
She’s amazing on the Studio.
I
ImmortalMoron3 • 124 points
Oh fuck, I forgot that she was a part of The Studio. I liked her character too.
C
clycoman • 82 points
She was also in The Last of Us, albeit in small role
P
Pissflaps69 • 104 points
Sign of a great actress, she can be a main character, a side character, and anything in between and she’s still excellent. Her relationship with Seth Rogan on the show was honestly one of the best parts of the show. Nuanced and complex.
O
Omnibeneviolent • 57 points
She was in the second season of The Last of Us, as well.
E

One of the funniest people of all time. It’s a painful loss.

Yeah she always exhuded so much warmth as Kevin’s mom in the Home Alone movies. As a kid I always associated her with that role so I was pleasantly surprised to see how funny she was in comedic roles. Incredible range and seemed like a wonderful person, RIP

Also a fantastic musical talent. Love her as Sally in Nightmare Before Christmas and in A Mighty Wind.
D
Druss_Deathwalker • 126 points
Had no idea she was Sally despite seeing that movie a hundred times. Might have to pop that one in tonight.
P
Practical_Safe_2115 • 45 points
She also did some other voices in Nightmare Before Christmas, I adore her in “Kidnap the Sante Claws”

Born same year as my mom, and I was more or less Kevin’s age went it came out. I remember my mom laughing her head off in the theater when we saw it and thinking *“makes sense, they’re a lot alike”* with little regard that she was a fictional character. Real sad to see her go. I’m gonna swing by mom’s this weekend just to hang out now. I’m sure she’ll be bummed by the news.

Her facial expressions are one of a kind. She was a true icon.
C

I love that dinner scene in Beetlejuice so much for so many reasons but when she sort of silently asks for help from her husband with that facial expression I howled. Just a gifted comedic actress what a career and life

M

She has been steadily working in entertainment for like 50 + years. RIP to someone who dedicated their life to entertaining others.
M
minnick27 • 395 points
Her entry into show business was being urged to try out for Second City by her brother’s girlfriend. That girlfriend was Gilda Radner. Some time goes past and she tried out and was cast to replace a departing cast member. That cast member was Gilda Radner

I saw the headline pop up on my phone, and I just kept going “no, no, no. No fucking way.” I’ve loved her for her work since Home Alone, I’m sure like a lot of us. Seeing her shine on Shitt’s Creek was a blessing. RIP Catherine 🕊️

B

I just saw her in the John Candy documentary talking about how she still dreamed about him and she asked him in her dream “why’d you have to die?” 🙁
M
MarySSimard • 64 points
And him to reply, in her dream, ircc: “Aw, why did you bring this up?!” 😢

This more than ever makes me want Scorsese to release the SCTV doc. The reunion was already filmed years ago and then shelved. We deserve to see the reunion

She’s truly one of the greats. She could play so sincerely and also be the most absurdly hilarious character.
B
BillysBibleBonkers • 128 points
She was fantastic in The Studio this past year, honestly I’m always so hyped whenever she pops up in a show, you always just know you’re in for a great performance. RIP to an absolute legend.
N

Exactly! She was one of those actors that really set the standard on any production she was a part of.
P

Literally one of the best to ever do it. The depth she portrayed with Moira was unironically amazing. Genuinely one of the funniest characters out there and that’s just one of MANY. This quote from Moira remains one of my all time favorite TV quotes ever just because of how beautiful it is about the passage of time and loving yourself and the way she delivered it was so heartfelt. > Then allow me to offer you some advice: Take a thousand, naked pictures of yourself now. You may currently think, “Oh, I’m too spooky.” Or, “Nobody wants to see these tiny boobies.” But, believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say, “Dear God, I was a beautiful thing!”
G
GoodCode2015 • 242 points
She was a titan of comedic actors in general imo.
B
brbrcrbtr • 132 points
No qualifiers required, she was one of the greats.
A

You don’t need “female”. She was one of the best of all-time, of any gender.
