I was working at a gas station that got robbed during my grave shift while I was working alone. One of the responding officers ended up stalking me to the point I had to quit and find a new job. He was way worse to deal with than the people that just stole some shit and pushed me down when they ran out. He would whip his cruiser in front of me while I was walking through the parking lot to get to my car to block my path so that I had to acknowledge him. He was like twice my age.

This is why I teach my kiddos “strange behaviors”. Statistically they are more likely to be harmed or assaulted by a close friend or a family member. Sickening, right? I also teach my kids that we don’t trust cops. Kind of like the not all men thing; not all cops are bastards, but enough of them are that we can’t trust any.

Yes, my partner and his friend were very legitimately nearly kidnapped as kids. They were riding bikes and stopped at a corner store for drinks, where they were later almost scooped into a man’s vehicle after they exited and returned to their bikes. His friend actually did get grabbed and luckily managed to weasel out of their grip and they gave up to drive away. Turns out the car had been following them along their bike ride, and they were none the wiser until they considered it in retrospect. As many of the women I know who have horror stories of experiences (and of course it’s nearly all of them…), I don’t know any girl who came as close to being kidnapped by a stranger as they did as little boys. I really don’t think they believed something like that could happen to them.

My husband doesn’t lock the doors, and the windows don’t even have locks on them. I managed to get him to lock the doors at least after a lot of arguing! He thought I was overreacting and being dramatic 🙄

Ok that would concern me lol My husband insisted we get planks of wood to wedge in the sliding glass door and kitchen window on the main level so the locks can’t be broken and slid open during the night or when we’re out. He also installed a chain lock and storm door for extra protection. We have several firearms in the house. He does a “boogyman” check whenever we come home from being out, in case someone somehow broke in and is hiding in the house. Our motto is “You can’t be too careful!” 😅

But to put it into perspective, you at least saw there was a situation that led to a build up of rage that led to a violent and terrifying interaction. Now imagine being at risk of that *simply for trying to reject/ignore a man trying to talk to you*. You do not have to do risk assessment anytime a stranger approaches you. That’s what people are trying to tell you. Yes men encounter very scary situations. But ours are hidden in plain sight. And then not only are we constantly vigilant of the potential danger all around us, *we are not believed when it happens to us*. Or worse, we are *blamed* for being in that situation in the first place.

Yikes. You’re right, it is. And your situation sounds scary. I don’t think it’s possible to understand the absolute vigilance women undertake every day as we go about our daily lives. There are places I won’t go and things I won’t do, because I am so sick of being grabbed and hit on and feeling unsafe. The last time I went to a bar with girlfriends I was straight up grabbed in the crotch. Crowded bar so impossible to tell who. That was almost a decade ago. I don’t go to bars anymore at night. Ever. That was after decades ago of being grabbed like that. I am almost 50 and I STILL get comments and have men harassing me. I thought being an old lady would shut that shit down, but so far, no dice. My partner used to be like that until we learned the weird thing I saw, was a group of guys covering up they’re murder. Since then I only say the name of the poor victim and he’d listens. (Unfortunately the victim could not have been saved even if I listened, his murdered got caught and sentenced).

NOR, but from the cops perspective they can’t really do anything for you. Don’t expect any follow up. Put up a camera so if the person returns you get some actual evidence. Even then, for the police to do anything they need a pattern and identification of the person, or for it to escalate where he tries to break in. That’s why having quality camera coverage is your safest path forward.

For the love of light, OP chose 30,000k to 35,000k lights for the temperature and the highest lumen rating you can get. The lumen rating dictates their brightness, not the color temperature rating. People often mistake “cool white” lights as better or brighter when they are just a pain in the ass to everyone who lives with them or near them. Anyone with ill intent won’t be bothered by it, instead the focus should be to provide visibility for you as the resident and how the cameras. Though there are some cameras that work better just with their night sight than recording at night with some lighting.

yea if I was that cop I’d probably say the same… it’s unnerving but what are you supposed to do? The cop doesn’t know who or why they were by your house, they can’t just go around roughing up everyone that lives there looking for a suspect, and even if they did… the person of interest didn’t even break any laws (yet). Maybe “skulking around” is a crime in TN idk, but generally I’d say the cop probably has other calls to take and nothing else to do here but take a report.
