honestly i believe it’s possible for shanks to be stronger than mihawk theres just no good argument for it there is no reason why a swordsman should be > the worlds strongest swordsman, feats, anti-feats, narrative whatever you want it has already explicitly been stated “mihawk is stronger than shanks” so until mihawk loses to someone shanks beats or to shanks himself mihawk should be stronger

But Shanks already has stuff putting him above Mihawk 1. Having Haki that’s comparable in power to Joyboy’s Haki, now given that Conqueror’s Haki scales to overall strength then that would require Shanks having a level of strength unmatched in the current era and not seen since Joyboy himself 2. Strong enough to defeat Loki who has been portrayed as a character beyond even Pirate King level characters. We could call this level the closest to God Tiers and Shanks defeated someone on that level making Shanks the closest character to Joyboy in 800 years 3. He was able to stop a war with his presence alone without him doing anything, Shank’s presence is so high that even the Navy combined power doesn’t want to fight him. Mihawk has never had that level of portrayal and presence 4. Shanks is stated by the 5 Elders as being unstoppable if he goes berserk, this implies Shanks’s power is so overwheming that even the 5 Elders combined power won’t be enough to stop him, only someone like Imu could handle that level of power 5. He pretty much neg Greenbull in Chapter 1055 which is unseen level of strength, Admirals are well known top tiers so someone being strong enough to No-diff them shows Shanks posseses a level of power unmatched in the modern era possibly unmatched since the era of Joyboy

1. we have no idea how strong mihawks haki is, im pretty sure the only feat(s) we have from him are if his observation which is really good considering he could what was going on at the reverie iirc, but again the problem is we just don’t have any feats for mihawk so all of this is good for shanks but doesn’t decisively place him above mihawk as there’s little to nothing to compare it to 2. the loki situation is very contentious, i think its absolutely possible that shanks just beat loki outright despite what people say, but im also unconvinced loki is as strong as people think he is. he beat a mentally nerfed harald who was standing there begging to die, im not sure thats the same as being outright stronger, but it is possible. i think we should wait for more information before using it as a feat decisively. 3. his presence at the war comes not only from his individual strength but from his entire crew, admittedly i need a refresh on marineford but i distinctly remember benn beckman being the one who handled kizaru. it’d be one thing if shanks showed up and stopped the war alone but that’s not what happened. 4. yes this is a good point and it all makes sense and i hate to sound like a broken record, but again these are all arguments just for shanks’ strength not necessarily for his strength over mihawk. if you’re saying shanks is second only to imu as the world government has no answer to him because of this statement then sure i guess, but id say that 1. again they’re referring to his entire crew not just him as an individual and 2. just because the world government doesn’t have an answer to shanks downs mean that nobody on earth (mihawk) does 5. he didn’t beat greenbull, he scared him off. a reoccurring theme in one piece is the world government being weary and mindful about how they spend their time and allocate their resources. it’s why akainu hides behind a desk, it’s why they don’t send an admiral every time there’s pirate activity somewhere. i’d be kidding myself if i told you that greenbull is stronger than shanks but all this feat tells you is that greenbull made a tactical decision to retreat instead of face the red haired pirates. now the way i’m talking it’d have you believe im a diehard mihawk stan but that’s not even the case, i think all his feats are incredibly underwhelming for him to be the worlds strongest swordsman. wss but you cant cut a yc3? but you’re stalling and postponing matches with a yc? it’s ridiculous i know, but i just feel like that’s the result of odas shit writing i think it’s far more likely that mihawk is the strongest in name and actuality than for oda to have just been lying about the title, or excluding shanks for some reason

So then why, as the creator of the IP, would Oda have a swordsman that is stronger than someone he has time and time again called the WSS. You talk a lot about “imply this” or “extrapolate that” to justify Shanks – no extrapolation needed for Mihawks title. Oda writes the rules – idk how anyone can see it otherwise except for being salty they don’t have actual Mihawk feats. We all want Mihawk feats – but not having feats doesn’t change the title. However, I could see Oda setting it up so Shanks takes over WSS title in the final chapters. Maybe Shanks has even surpassed Mihawk at this point in terms of strength, but it’s clear Oda’s signaling has been WSS>Shanks, at least at this point.

He is the fucking best swordsman in the world. He obviously has to beat shanks with a sword. Shanks can beat him someway else.

Wb who stalemated Prime Roger, beat the shit out of Akainu, has the best endurance feats ever and has some of the highest DC in the series isn’t leechin on anyone, Oda has done a very good job with his strength

95% of his reputation is based on Roger. If you take Roger out of the equation, practically all that’s left is Marineford (and 2 small scenes GV). And he didn’t look particularly good MF—from today’s perspective. Cut roger and WB does not have any PK haki feats or anything that would put him above the rest.

Plot wise, Zoro has a greater goal than Mihawk. Initially Zoro wanted to be the WSS to prove himself. Now he wants to get stronger because he wants to help his captain complete his dream. Zoro overcame his arrogance and unnecessary need of being recognized. Only if these dumbass power scalers could understand this. I mean powerscaling is fun, but it becomes so dumb when people just ignore the plot for their agenda!
