Josh Safdie is currently trending due to a combination of recent incidents and controversies surrounding his work and personal relationships. Reports from various sources indicate that there may be a dispute or split between Josh Safdie and his brother, Benny Safdie, stemming from an incident covered by Page Six. Such high-profile separations in the film industry often capture public attention, leading to increased interest and searches surrounding the individuals involved.

Additionally, heightened interest may also stem from safety concerns highlighted during the filming of “Marty Supreme,” a project involving Timothée Chalamet and directed by Josh Safdie. A news article from The National News Desk reported on these real safety concerns, which could have piqued curiosity among fans and followers, prompting them to search for more information related to both the film and Safdie’s involvement.

Another layer to the search interest is linked to controversy over a minor’s sexual scene in the Safdie Brothers’ projects, as reported by 조선일보. This sensitive topic can stimulate significant discussion and concern, driving more searches as individuals seek to understand the implications of such scenes and their impact on the filmmakers involved.

These news signals combined provide a multifaceted reason for the spike in search interest, as fans and the public navigate the unfolding narratives surrounding Josh Safdie and his current projects.

H~~ey mods – why’d you delete my post about the Safdie brothers split and the potential abuse of a 17 year old actress?~~ ~~You claimed there was a post already about it, but I did a search and there has not been. The article came out yesterday…~~ \*\*\*Edit: the mods were 100% correct, my search wasn’t pulling up the relevant article. Sorry for the hassle!

Totally 10000000% my bad!!!!!!!!! I have no idea why it wasn’t showing up when I did a search (I try to avoid unnecessary posting or creating extra work for mods – I mod a discord server and know how annoying it can be haha). Sorry mods!

Haven’t watched I Swear or Ballad of Wallis Island – one of the great things about the BAFTAs is it always gives me more to watch! Thrilled for Jesse Plemons also, my fave part of Bugonia

The announcers did a really nice job announcing the nominees. Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman did last week, too. I hate when the names are all mangled and the passengers just laugh.

I don’t think it’s been remarked enough upon that this locks in Delroy Lindo as one of the extremely rare people to get an Oscar nomination without a single precursor, not even a win from the Trifecta, NBR, or AFI.

This is somehow Peter Mullan’s first bafta film award nomination. Very surprising to me

Surprised that The Secret Agent made to Original SP, I guess they really wanted to make up for dropping the ball with it. It makes me more hopeful for an eventual upset in Internacional.

They also hate it was just accident, thats why tsa got in

I used to think Hamnet could win here especially it’s so BAFTA-coded and I predicted 3 acting noms but man that Editing snub is rough. OBAA will prob win here.
W
whitneyahn • 14 points
Power of the Dog missed editing here and still won Picture, and in general this category is a lot less linked to picture.
J
joesen_one • 4 points
That’s true. I’m just surprised at Hamnet missing both Editing and Casting when they should’ve been sure locks.
E
Exact_Watercress_363 • 11 points
i mean is it THAT big of problem? they didn’t even bother showing editing noms up live they got emily watson over 2 oscar nominees, its still competitive enough though i do think obaa still wins best film, hamnet wins best british film and maybe adapted screenplay?
J

I still think PTA has Adapted on lock

I love betting on the awards because I’m sick like that, but this season sucks if you aren’t a huge fan of OBAA, Sinners, or Marty. Supporting Actress is likely Taylor’s now barring some sort of surprise. Winner of BAFTA will probably win Best Actor. Winner of International Film here probably repeats at the Oscars as well. Feels like there’s not many surprises that could unfold, and the one’s that can happen aren’t very interesting (in my opinion).

IAmA_talking_cat_AMA • 8 points
> Supporting Actress is likely Taylor’s now barring some sort of surprise. She’s definitely the frontrunner but I think Inga and Wunmi are competitive as well. If Taylor wins BAFTA it’s locked up but if Inga (or someone else) does then the race is very much open.
–
-civictv • 10 points
That’s totally fair! There’s different permutations of how it plays out that make the race more interesting – Wunmi winning SAG or BAFTA, Madigan winning SAG and Inga winning BAFTA, etc… It’s just hard for me to care too much since I feel similarly about all of the performances, and there’s no one that I’m really rooting for now that Madigan is basically out of the equation (and I didn’t love Weapons, I just think it would have been a fun thing for the Academy to do haha).

I mean last 2 years had both supporting categories on lock from the start with sweepers (at televised awards) and on top of that the lead actor wasn’t a nail bitter either since Murphy had won both industry prizes (though some tried when Giamatti won Critics Choice, it started a whole discourse that got shut quickly when Murphy won both BAFTA and SAG making him a lock) and Brody losing at SAG wasn’t surprising (they didn’t like Brutalist overthere) but also happened after voting closed (and quite frankly even if it hadn’t Chalamet’s speech, seen as entitled by many, would have helped Brody be more of a lock if anything lol) So yeah last 2 years only lead actress was somewhat of a race. Funny thing this year it is probably the most locked. But nothing new as far as lack of suspense.

If the Oscars was actually based on merit rather than popularity, Robert Aramayo would be one of the favourites for Best Actor – his performance in I Swear was easily the best I’ve seen in the past year but it isn’t even on the Academy’s radar.
T
tillwehavefaces123 • 1 points
100% agreed. The morons downvoting you can get fucked.
F
falafelthe3 • 0 points
I have no doubt the performance is great, but to say it’s missing out because the Oscars are based on popularity and that it’s “objectively” one of the best performances of the year is very silly.
T
tillwehavefaces123 • 0 points
It is missing out because the Oscars are based on popularity. If the voters had actually seen the film, they would have voted for him.
F
falafelthe3 • 1 points
How do you gauge popularity? Box office? If so, then I Swear made more money than Blue Moon, so it is technically more popular than that. Awards bodies? It just got nominated for five BAFTAs, a voting group that has a lot of overlap with the Academy, so it’s pretty popular with some Academy voters. Online buzz? I’ve seen nothing online about many of the contenders (outside of, say, distribution/release deals) like Sirāt, Kokuho, The Lost Bus, but plenty about bigger-budget movies that didn’t get nominated (Superman, Wake Up Dead Man, Wicked: For Good), so the “popular” stuff certainly gets overlooked. That’s not even getting into the “objectively great performance” idiocy. It seems more like a lot of Academy voters watched it, and some people enjoyed the movie, and some didn’t – hence why he didn’t get nominated. Does that mean it’s a bad performance? Maybe to some, but to most, it mainly just means you don’t have the same tastes as them. That’s fine, but don’t expect them to have the same taste as you going forward.
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 0 points
How is it idiocy? It is literally impossible to deny it is a great performance. You may disagree how good, but it is objectively good. If his performance in this cannot be called objectively good you may as well sack off all this awards nonsense because you would have no base truth to anything and you might as well nominate films based on names out of a hat, Utter nonsense to pretend a film cannot have an objectively good performance.
F
falafelthe3 • 1 points
>It is literally impossible to deny it is a great performance A hypothetical: two people watch a movie. One calls it bad, the other calls it good. Which one is incorrect? >If his performance in this cannot be called objectively good Based on what? Not your opinion, but what do you have to prove that it is a good performance outside of you saying it is? >Utter nonsense to pretend a film cannot have an objectively good performance. Utter nonsense to pretend art critique and awards have any objectivity to them lmao
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 2 points
Haha, I feel a lot of this sub is just circlejerking the opinions of the Academy and not actually appraising things fairly. I am not surprised!
A
Abbie_Kaufman • 5 points
It wasn’t even eligible this year for Oscar’s, the US limited release isn’t until I think March
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 1 points
Fair enough. I was under the impression it had a short run around the time of the UK release but I must have imagined it. Still wouldn’t have been nominated though as the names involved aren’t as flashy
G
GirlsWasGoodNona • 6 points
Most of the Oscar nominees weren’t at all popular or successful lol
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 1 points
They’re popular amongst the elites that make up the academy. Popular with audiences and popular with the Academy are very different things. I obviously mean the latter
G
GirlsWasGoodNona • 1 points
Majority of academy is not considered an “elite”
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 0 points
By all accounts they absolutely are. They’re (almost) all film making professionals who work in the Hollywood bubble. They skew old, white and male. If they’re not elites then what are they? They are certainly not representative of the vast majority of audiences.
G
GirlsWasGoodNona • 3 points
There’s like 10k people in the Academy, that includes working actors crew and staff… most working professionals in Hollywood are not elite and are not making swaths of money. In any case, I don’t think I Swear was even released in the US.
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 0 points
Elite is not necessarily based on money. It is based on whether or not you are part of a ruling class. In this case people who are working in Hollywood are obviously part of the ruling class. It’s not even arguable that Academy nominations and voting patterns aren’t hugely based on internal groupthink
G
GirlsWasGoodNona • 3 points
I’m not sure if you know working people in entertainment but I do and they are not the ruling class. Most people are project to project/paycheck to paycheck. How is anyone elite or ruling anything when they are working to make ends meet. What a weird take lol
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 0 points
You’re thinking way too broadly. There are 10,000 members of the academy which is not that many compared to people “working in entertainment”. Being a member of the academy is itself a signal that you are very much in a bubble. I don’t think you’d find a single member of the academy who didn’t have an inflated view of their own opinions when it came to Hollywood movies.
G
GirlsWasGoodNona • 3 points
I mean I literally know people in the DGA that have to live off one commercial for sometimes several years and vote but ok lol
L
llamalief • 4 points
i don’t think it was even released there yet

>If the Oscars was actually based on merit rather than popularity You mean “if the Oscars was actually based on MY opinion and not that of Academy members”
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • -1 points
You wouldn’t be saying this if you’d seen the movie. Objectively one of the best performances of the year.
F
falafelthe3 • 5 points
I genuinely love comments that are just >Objectively speaking, [opinion]
W
Wise-Reflection-7400 • 0 points
As I said, you obviously haven’t seen the movie or you would realise how ridiculous you sound. His performance is technically more impressive than almost all of the nominees.
