unfortunately both celebrity winners didn’t do good at all in this tournament. i’m sure they’ll both do better next month in celebrity jeopardy all stars but as somebody else here pointed out, no way was that good practice for the toc since it did film before. ike did well but i also believe he has some trivia background.
B
braves-geek • 1 points
Kamau’s board was the hardest I’ve seen all season. That was unfortunate.
D
david-saint-hubbins • 29 points
No disrespect to either one of them, but bringing the Celebrity winner to the TOC is an idea that never should have made it past the drawing board. It’s embarrassing for the celebrities, and it’s unfair to the civilian players, because a QF match with 3 TOC-level players is a completely different animal from a match with 2 TOC-level players and 1 celeb. Ike Barinholtz was the exception, but I don’t expect to see anything like that happen again. My pet theory is that they’re hoping the Celeb-to-TOC pathway will help convince [Emma Stone to accept an invitation to Celebrity Jeopardy.](https://people.com/emma-stone-reveals-that-she-applies-to-jeopardy-every-year-8425608)

Sadly, they are usually outclassed – as most of us would be!
R

They should not be in the tournament of champions.

Seems like Ike was an outlier sadly edit: what did i start xd

Not picking on you since a lot of people have expressed similar sentiments, but so what? I don’t think anyone is under the illusion the Celeb contestant is going to make noise in the ToC every year, but when they do, it creates a lot of good buzz and discussion. And I bet it will happen again at some point.
J
jaysjep2 • 1 points
The “so what” is that it’s absurd to pretend that Celebrity Jeopardy! is real Jeopardy!, and that its winner has legitimately earned a spot in the ToC. They want to put the ToC winner in Second Chance, and give them a path to earn a spot that way? Fine, whatever.
T
tributtal • 1 points
I just made this comment in response to someone else, but as someone who follows CJ! closely, I believe they are trying to up-level the quality and difficulty of the clues so that whoever emerges as the winner is a legit contestant. Also Second Chance would make no sense since they would have already won several games as CJ! champ. Maybe CWC.
W
WestOrangeHarvey • 1 points
Putting Celeb tournament winners in the CWC makes zero sense. The CWC, under the new selection method used this year that I think proved itself and hopefully is here to stay, is for champions who showed the potential to play at a TOC level but, due to being on the wrong side of variance, didn’t win enough games in regular-play to qualify for the TOC. And I think that was reflected in the steady stream of superb games in the 2026 CWC. If the TOC is a bad fit for Celeb tourney winners, the CWC is an equally bad fit for them.
T
tributtal • 1 points
You’re right. CWC makes as little sense as Second Chance, which was the original comment I was responding to. But big picture, as I’ve mentioned several times now, I’m one of the few (only?) who doesn’t mind the celebs being invited to the ToC.
R

All set Harvey! Just updated your flair. Thanks for the reminder.
J
jaysjep2 • 1 points
Celebrity Jeopardy! is supposed to be a fun way for entertainers to win money for charity. Regular Jeopardy! is already a serious competition. What is the point of making Celebrity Jeopardy! “serious”? And putting them in with serious players? They don’t take the winners of “8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown” and put them against regular Countdown octochamps. Because they realize a celebrity version of a serious game show is supposed to have a completely different mindset.
T
tributtal • 1 points
I’m not part of the show or the production team, so I don’t know the answers to your questions. Just pointing out what I’ve observed from closely watching CJ! I don’t know what’s the endgame they may have in mind. Maybe their efforts fall flat, but if they are doing what it looks like, I hope they succeed. But seems I’m in the minority.
Q
QueenLevine • 1 points
OK, but we have discussed this until the cows came home, chewed their cud, and were herded back from the pasture. Producers have leeway to try to make the show more appealing to viewers, and they sometimes choose regular Jeopardy contestants who are popular for JIT, right? So why wouldn’t they do the same with celebrities who are up for it, particularly when there’s a precedent for inviting them to a specific tournament? How would it have looked if Lisa Ann wasn’t given a chance when Ike was? In any case, this is a show that needs good ratings, not JUST a trivia competition, as has been discussed until that same cow died, was slaughtered and butchered. Did TJ get a slightly easier quarter-final? Sure. But that selection is randomized, yes?
J
jaysjep2 • 1 points
So we’ve gotten to the point that the Tounament of Champions is not enough of an attraction to keep viewers interested unless a celebrity is involved? Granted, the show should get plenty of internet milage out of Lisa Ann finishing with an embarrassing score. Any publicity is good publicity, I guess.

QueenLevine • 1 points
You’re barking up the wrong tree, friend. You know quite well that, in the never-ending kvetch fests in this sub, I always take the side of supporting/loving the tournaments. You also know that I am not one of the producers, I know nothing, and I believe you yourself have argued that the show needs to be profitable, so we can continue enjoying it. That said, if you want to kvetch and argue some more, I’m here for you; these are beloved pastimes of my people. To that end, I will reverse my previous position on Yogesh Raut and admit that he had a point, that Jeopardy! is not exactly the same as trivia tournaments, for this ratings motivated reason.

I think if the producers really want to keep putting Celebrity Jeopardy winners into the ToC, then the actual Celebrity Jeopardy primetime episodes have to become equal in difficulty to the main show, to prove they really do have a fighting chance. Right now, it’s like inviting the biggest winner of a Kids Week to a College Tournament; just totally unequal footing. Ike, who already had a LearnedLeague account & real trivia chops, is the outlier.
T
tributtal • 1 points
I may be biased, but IMO it felt like the latest season of CJ had a pretty significant bump up in difficulty compared to the first two seasons, particularly in the later rounds. As several people pointed out in the game threads, many of the clues were nearly identical to those used on regular J! So the show may already be moving towards what you’re talking about.

I, like others here, think what we saw with Kamau and Lisa Ann is more reflective of the great chasm of game-play level between celebrity J! and “real” J! . The truth might never be known but I’ll repeat my concern that asking these two to play more CJ for All-Stars wasn’t the best for them. I’m sure that whatever prep they may have been doing was totally for top-tier ToC. It might just be too much to ask for any future CJ winner to “Be Like Ike” and pull off a win at this level. Gotta wonder if the All-Stars winner (should it be someone new) was given the on-air invite for next year’s ToC. The concept is intriguing to some degree. Yet the proper fit just might not exist. I don’t think they’re done trying, though. Today, congrats to TJ for a good win. He’s the only one of the six $100K+ winners to win their QF game.

I don’t watch Celebrity J!… but yeah, I generally agree. Those celebrities are not dumb people, they’re just “ordinary” As someone who’s not a trivia buff (no bar trivia night attendances, no LearnedLeague, none of all those hobbies that would prepare someone for Jeopardy) if there’s someone who knows the difference between ordinary people and trained J! Players, I’d be one of them Sorry to the celebrities, but I think it’d be best if they open up those 2 spots for two more civilian champions. That way, 3 game champions like Geoff Barnes and Bill McKinley don’t have to go through CWC. Which in turn, of course, means we open up two more CWC spots for two more 1 or 2 game champions Viewership and ratings is a numbers game though. And these celebrities have more followers on Instagram than this subreddit has people

Fun episode, shame about Lisa Ann’s performance. Glad to see that Mike made it not a runaway, shame about a kinda tough (?) FJ? Oh well, GGs to all 🙂
D
david-saint-hubbins • 1 points
Definitely a tough FJ, but I think it’s the right level for the ToC–there were only a handful of Union border states, so if you know those, it’s potentially gettable as an educated guess (not that I got it): >In the American Civil War (1861–65), the border states or the Border South were four, later five, slave states in the Upper South that primarily supported the Union. They were Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri, and after 1863, the new state of West Virginia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_states_(American_Civil_War)

It was real fun to see Lisa Ann Walter again, but man, competing against the civilian champs just highlights the gap between them and the celebs that play on Easy Mode, and they get to fool around. Probably even worse for her, who won Celebrity Jeopardy *last* season but couldn’t make the TOC because of her Abbott Elementary commitments. At least she did better than Marge Simpson. https://preview.redd.it/ano2rrf7esfg1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8dbcdc7fc41e647081330ca8018a5e386af2e38

What confederate state does Delaware border? Or am I just being too literal
F
FranklinBenedict • 1 points
The term border states more refers to slave states that stayed loyal to the union during the war than a literal border.
B
Brickdaddy • 1 points
Thank you for the clarification!
T
TheL95 • 1 points
I didn’t think it was necessarily even clear what border they were talking about. I assumed the Mason-Dixon line, but I don’t think the clue was specific enough to exclude states along the Canadian border.

I knew Lisa Ann was a fluke and today I’m vindicated. Mo Rocca would’ve had a chance I thought the word “klaxon” could refer to any alarm, siren, buzzer etc Don’t understand why the “redacted” category looked so different. And I’m surprised no one got UFC or Pascal’s triangle or 7+14 > Putting -PODGE, -POURRI or THIS AND THAT in a category title about a single topic isn’t cute, and it certainly isn’t necessary. It’s just dumb. You seem really upset

WHY ARE WE INCLUDING CELEBS IN THE ToC?! Especially celebs who arent even on the same level as regular players??
M

Because their egos are too big and it’s fun to see them get knocked down a peg.

It’s nice that they want to include Celebrity Jeopardy champions in this tournament but I’m honestly questioning if they should actually be invited to the TOC ‘cause idk how much they prepare

It’s possible Mike knew the final clue of the DJ round (quarterfinalist), but he had nothing to gain from buzzing in. If TJ got it right (which he did), Mike would still be within half of him, but if Mike got it wrong, TJ would at minimum have double of Mike going into FJ, and if he got it right, would have a runaway. If he did intentionally not buzz in thinking of this, this would be a great example of situational awareness.
