The keyword “Goa” is currently experiencing a significant surge in search interest, with over 100,000 searches recorded. This heightened interest can be attributed to recent developments, although specific news signals from reliable sources remain unidentified. The absence of clear news articles may indicate an underlying event or situation that has captured public attention, prompting individuals to explore more about Goa.

Moreover, the lack of specificity in its association with crime and sports suggests that there may be events or incidents in these areas that are influencing public curiosity. The potential for crime-related news, such as safety concerns or high-profile incidents, could be driving people to seek out information about the destination. Similarly, if there have been significant sports events or related announcements in Goa, this may also contribute to the increased search interest.

Overall, the combination of these factors likely illustrates a moment where ongoing developments are compelling individuals to engage more actively with information about Goa, though the exact nature of these developments remains unclear. This influx of curiosity aligns with the data indicating a remarkable level of search activity surrounding the region.

Look dude, I’m an Indian American who doesn’t like visiting India, and when I have to I stay in western hotels and only go to malls/ office parks etc. It is possible to have a good expat life there for six months if you’re getting paid US wages (for $2500 a month one could literally live in the Hyatt hotel with housekeeping everyday) That being said, the fact that you think India doesn’t have movie theaters with movies in English, Western sit down restaurants, and coffee shops, or places where people wear western clothing, shows your profound ignorance, and a sense of disdain so strong even someone like me who doesn’t like India much is turned off by it. And why do you care what other people think about casual sex or, you’re there for six months, thats basically an extended assignment. Save yourself, the company, and India the trouble, and stay away

I asked that because apparently outside of major cities, movie theaters will apparently dub in Hindi or the local languages, or not even show western films. In rural areas, those western-style amenities don’t seem to exist. I said I enjoy chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. I also enjoy food like lamb korma, chicken biryani, vegetable uthapam, puri bhaji, and mango lassi. I love kaju burfi and gulab jamun sweets. I also love masala chai and mysore coffee. I think most Bollywood movies are trash but I did say I liked 3 Idiots and Lagaan. I’m interested in architecture and India has cool spots in Rajasthan and Delhi/Agra (Taj Mahal and forts). I also like some Indian EDM music like Goa trance. And have had fun at Bhangra dance festivals in America. I’ve been to two Indian-style weddings in America and they were lots of fun. I like the Indian-American cultural experience, but not full on Indian.

Dude shut up about the food and the 2 bollywood movies you’ve seen. You sound so completely uncultured and idiotic trying to justify your (at best xenophobic, and at worst outright racist) attitude. Just accept either A) this is too good of an opportunity to pass up, so you need to put on your big boy pants and shut up and go into it with an open mind and be willing to tolerate some crap to make it work, or B) your white fragility and privilege and ethnocentrism is too big of a hurdle for you to overcome to take this mind-expanding opportunity of a lifetime to grow as a person and as an employee. That’s it. Those are your two choices.
O
One_Sherbert7457 • 34 points
Now let me ask you this, WHY TF would you be in a rural area or a smaller city? You have absolutely no reason to be there, or travel there. Mumbai and Hyderabad are cheap by American standards anyways Its like someone saying “Is it safe for me as a gay person to move to America? My work will be in NYC/SF, but I heard rural Alabama is crazy unwelcoming to LGBT people” That being said, giving you the benefit of doubt that you didn’t mean ill, yes you’ll be fine as long as you stay in a serviced Hyatt/Marriott apartment and take premium Ubers everywhere, and make weekend trips to Dubai/Singapore/SE Asia as getaways. Your colleagues at work will probably recommend solid spots as well
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -5 points
Thanks, I genuinely didn’t mean ill. Appreciate the recs. And seems like living in Hyatt/Marriott apartments seems like a good move. Great point on weekend trips to nearby fun countries. It’s true I won’t always be confined to India.
S

Lmao weren’t butter chicken and chicken tikka masala both created for Americans? Like I don’t think those two dishes are even Indian food. I could be wrong though I’ve never tried either of them or any Indian food for that matter.
W
wisegirlonfire • 7 points
these dishes were created by indians and are Indian food. tbh these are just modern names of traditionally cooked dishes that have diff variations. the exact recipe called butter chicken was “invented” by a restaurant in delhi and the one called “chicken tikka masala” was “invented” by South Asian chefs in the UK
S
Significant-Cold-239 • 1 points
I mean, you could convincingly make the same argument about Americanized Chinese food like general tso’s chicken, etc, that they’re by no means even close to authentic. I think OP chose those examples as Indian food dishes that were Americanized and palatable to their preferences. I agree with you that the examples chosen by OP illustrate their lack of familiarity with Indian food/culture and that’s why OP has a lot trepidation about this, whether justified or not.
C
chosslord • 145 points
I don’t think you can go to India with that attitude, honestly. Unless you can drastically change your mindset, this does not sound like the right opportunity for you.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -33 points
Why not? What if I just stick to Bandra West in Mumbai.
P
pdinc • 14 points
I was going to suggest just this. But even if you build that ‘expat’ bubble (and for the record, you can), you will see some of the issues you’re concerned about from time to time.
C
chosslord • 54 points
Your entire post is framed in a way that implies you have no interest in India at all and want to shield yourself from the culture as much as you possibly can. To be honest, if I were your employer and I read this post, I would probably let you go or at the very least, rescind any offer to travel to another country on our behalf.

No one is forcing OP to go. It’s not like they’re in the military going on a deployment. Why willingly go to a country and then not want to learn anything about the culture. Seems like a recipe to be miserable for a year.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -18 points
That’s not true. I said I enjoy chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. I also enjoy food like lamb korma, chicken biryani, vegetable uthapam, puri bhaji, and mango lassi. This sounds like you went to a Indian American restaurant, tried the menu, and now think you understand India. Would you believe me if I said “I don’t hate gay culture, I watched a lot of Queer Eye”? A culture is not just the food or the cinemas or the places. It’s 99% the people. How can you build out a team of Indians with an attitude like this?
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -9 points
That’s okay, the food and entertainment are enough culture for me. The Indians will be grads from IITs or top PGDM grads so they will be decently westernized to begin with.
O
Ogloc12345678 • 16 points
“Decently westernized”…yeah brother it’s best for everyone involved that do not go to India, I think the US is the PERFECT place for you right now.
S

When are you planning on… actually working? I’m not being flippant. Your mindset sounds insane for a highly compensated M7 MBA hire. You’re growing a tech startup internationally as a senior manager and you’re worried about watching lots of movies, hookup culture, being in Grindr, fighting for woman’s rights, hanging out at comedy clubs, concerts, traveling around remote areas to explore architecture.
S
Short-Belt-1477 • 8 points
Sounds like a fake post. Opening 2 new offices is a lot of work. Won’t have time for much else
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • 1 points
It’ll be around 55 hours a week. Evenings and weekends are off.
P
Prestigious-Disk3158 • 4 points
Probably isn’t highly compensated. M7 at a tech startup in this economy? Meh.
S
snappy033 • 4 points
I’m trying to make a point that an MBA coming to a tech startup has some expectation to work hard and make a contribution. He’s not getting sent to India to run their shipping and receiving desk in the mail room. Whether he makes $150k or $400k, it’s not an excuse for his attitude.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -6 points
I’ll be making over $300,000 (US Dollars).
P
Prestigious-Disk3158 • 3 points
Is this base? Use a base salary without adjusting for living expenses adjustments that they’re paying you.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -1 points
Yes it’s all base. That’s why I’m considering it. It’s extremely generous given India’s lower cost of living.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -4 points
My work hours will be around 50-60 hours a week. Weekends are completely free. So are evenings. So I’ll have plenty of time for leisure.

You will hate it there especially with your perception and attitude towards the culture. This is a troll post if not idiotic in its content. If your feelings are true, not only will you hate it in India but Indians will hate you. Also as a senior leader, i would stay away from hiring someone like you. You’re not going in with an open attitude and viewing this as an opportunity to learn and grow. You’re going for the money but you will hate everyone around you.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -7 points

My point is that a culture doesn’t solely revolve around its food or entertainment. For reference, I’ve done international stints in four countries – UAE, Japan, Switzerland and Columbia. I am south Asian with dual Canadian – US citizenship. I never had the attitude you did and enjoyed my experiences for the most part because I kept an open mind and let go of any expectations. Clearly you’re going to be living a luxury lifestyle. You will have a driver and maid (probably). You will not experience any cultural negatives you want to avoid. But to go in already that “I like the food, some music and two movies, so what do I do about living in a country with 1.5bn people, 100+ languages and dozens of ethnicities because I don’t want to be around all of it” is counterproductive. That said, stick to Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. Enough open minded folks, western spots and good people who may change your ill perceived perceptions.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -2 points
The food and entertainment are enough for me, sorry. Thanks for the city recs though.
T
TommyD411 • 7 points
Good luck to you. I hope you have a good time but I can tell now you will hate it. We haven’t even talked about the cows and animals roaming around. No one is saying to put on a kurta and do yoga every morning. But you will meet people who enjoy the things you detest and as a result, they will avoid/resent/despise you and that’s the worst thing you can have while trying to build a team in a new country. Honestly, go visit first before you commit because you will regret it. And your employer will regret it too.
L
libgadfly • 1 points
So well said. I hope the OP reflects on your comments before he potentially self-sabotages himself in India with those attitudes. No team of South Asians will want to follow him.
T
TommyD411 • 2 points
No anyone of any culture if you’re going in with an attitude like that. It’s arrogant and pretentious and guaranteed it will be oozing out of him once he’s there. To your point – no one will follow him and in fact may do the opposite. How ridiculous to say I love the food and two movies but keep me away from everything else because ew. Like wtf kind of leader is this? His employer is going to take a major hit sending this guy there.

snappy033 • 20 points
You know many people (even people with MBAs! Shudder!) take year long assignments in rural gas fields in Kazakhstan, do deep sea oil drilling in the North Sea, mining in the Australian deserts 900 miles from a city. So on and so forth. Your post sounds so unhinged and entitled if you consider what I wrote above. Imagine if a foreigner came to the U.S. and wrote the opposite of what you wrote. No LGBTs, not willing to speak English, no food that is even tangentially American. 🤡
N
National-Evidence408 • 5 points
Ha – my good friend who is now a MBB partner spent his pre mba days in middle of no where Australia mining outpost. His path to partnership was middle of no where mongolia and africa. I complain about endless trips to medium tier US midwest cities.
S
snappy033 • 5 points
Yeah all those examples I gave OP are actual assignments of people I know personally. The one who went to Australia is an MBA 😂. Also a platinum mine in rural South Africa.. plus countless military assignments with zero amenities.
N
National-Evidence408 • 2 points
Not to brag too much but I was on a project in Syracuse for two years. Even the customer (who was mostly in nyc) was impressed at my fortitude.
B
bitchthatwaspromised • 1 points
to be fair, aside from the LGBT part, you can live in a lot of Queens without having to speak English or eat American food lol
S
snappy033 • 8 points
I love that you are apparently passionate about this promotion and building out two India teams but want nothing to do with India. Once your teams are up and running, *please guess who gets to be the India regional manager and company SME* moving forward. I do wish you many work trips back to India in your new role. Good luck to you.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -2 points
It’s not the case that I want nothing to do with India. I like the Indian-American cultural experience, but not full on Indian. Also, I’d make sure to leave after the year is up. Wouldn’t be opposed to infrequent short-term future India trips though, if needed.

Do you live under a rock? Pretty much everyone wears western clothes and women work and study advanced degrees. Everything you mentioned can be found in any tier 1 city (Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Banglore, New Delhi), if you know which neighborhoods to stay in. Ok except maybe orchestra lol. Grindr is huge everywhere and Pune also has a gay bathhouse (operates as a massage spa). Although PDA is frowned upon, unless you’re in a bars/clubs. If you can afford it, stay in South Mumbai. Banglore and Pune will have nice neighborhoods with expats and the relatively well off Indians (typically where nightlife, gourmet stores and fancy cafes are centered). The cities may not be very walkable but Ubers are fairly cheap.
O
Ordinary_Cod_6519 • -2 points
Thank you, this is really helpful! And the reason I asked is I heard that in Tier 2 or lower cities, and rural areas, it’s true places don’t have the amenities I was discussing. But it’s good to know Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Delhi are good in this regard. It looks like Mumbai does have a western style symphony orchestra which is great!
M
Moonyflour • 10 points
Honestly at this point I’m just curious to know what you think is a full on Indian experience lmao
