Conceding only one shot on goal and Courtois made only one save has to be regarded as good enough, at least defensively. Vini did create a lot of danger, and made an insane pass that led to the penalty. Was also the force behind the first goal. It seems weird to complain that he didn’t play well. Vini was also, lack of better word, harassed multiple times. Of course that affects a player. It really can’t be difficult to argue that Vini is treated significantly worse than most of our players. And that the ref plainly ignores several fouls, while simultaneously making sure that Vini gets called quite easily when he pushes. Navarro plainly targeted Vini, and he did it more than twice, it was a pattern, it happened repeatedly. It should be clear two yellow cards, and red. Pedreza was constantly late and escaped a single yellow card. Offensively Madrid had several chances, and 4 shots on goal. Was the expectation that Madrid was going to win like 5-0? Villarreal is a solid team, and in 3d place. It is one of the more difficult away games in the league. This was a good game.

So much for Mbappe not being able to help win vs low blocks because he’s not in the box like a 9 eh? Two poacher goals in the bag. “Wait till they play a good team” well here we are, now it’s going to be “wait till you play a good team in the UCL”

Drender • -3 points
Him finally doing a thing he wasnt doing, doesnt make any of those comments less true. We are all glad he realizes he can do damage by going for short passes and rebounds in the box

It was the same as with Xabi Alonso… the same starting lineup, the same late substitutions, we didn’t really attack after taking the lead.

I agree. Midfield was dead before and it is now! No creativity, no structure, no control!

raul ascenio is incredible, he has his bozo moments, but he’s still young and he can learn, same thing with dean
V
vivalaroja2010 • 10 points
Anybody that complains about Asencio doesnt remember Ramos (or any defender really) in his early days. Stud defenders dont just start out like that, they become it after some hard moments. Asencio if he continues this trajectory will be a very solid defender.
H
hdsiysaist • -1 points
he could be a very solid bench option for us, and he if he’s given regular minutes i do think he can become world class, imagine if nacho left and was given regular minutes, he would easily considered world class

vivalaroja2010 • 2 points
Hes been a very clear #1 CB for us this year. Huijsen has not been good and soft since the Atletico game. Militao is broken. Rudiger is inconsistent and Alaba is not reliable.
D
Drender • 3 points
Hes 99% great, the other 1% is his freaking slip ups. Dude keeps falling in the WORST possible moments over and over again.
H
hdsiysaist • 1 points
true tbh but i can see him becoming a world class defender with the time issue is RM is not a project club, so he has to IMMEDIATELY play at a world class standard, same thing with dean he would thrive in a club like MAN U, where i think most fans accepted that immediate success is not happening, its unfortunate but in the summer when we’re for sure either signing konate or nico schlotterbeck, he’s going to be demoted to a bench option but if he can maintain this level of performance coming off the bench when necessary then it isn’t gonna be an issue

Good game from vini and Mbappe. They created problems for Villarreal that eventually resulted in frustration / lost composure. Jude workhorse as usual. Cama with his average 1 time per game goofy moment, but he cleaned it up. Carreras, need I say anything, what a player. Huijsen back to form. Mastantuono helping at RB was glorious to watch. Very hard away game and we won it well, dare I say we would’ve won Rayo away too if we’d had Arebola at the helm. Whatever he’s telling these players, it’s working.

He’s not telling the players anything except to play and do your thing😂

Absolutely loved the way we played against Villareal, Given everything that’s going on the way the player’s performed offensively and defensively were great. Apart from the set piece opportunity Villareal didn’t create much, We played with hunger which was so satisfying to watch after a very very longtime. Arbeloa got the substitutions part perfectly right, Team played like a team
K
Kavazou77 • 10 points
Arbeloa also making the no brainer, obvious subs. If Xabi was here still he would have taken out Dean and put in Ceballos and then taken out Vini for Fran Garcia.

Exactly keeping it simple.

And the whole team would spend 2 minutes trying to communicate with xabi to understand what position they are supposed to cover 😁

I know in Mbappe’s mind he thinks it came across as “hey friend, I know it hurt you a lot missing that penalty, so as a display of friendship and support, let me score this penanke in your honour” But really, it came more across as “you’re no where near my level, let me show you how it’s done, little boy”

Now I can’t imagine anyone else playing RB than Valverde man. Someone please convince him he is Phillip Lahm regen

Viní had two key plays which led to both Mbappé goals. Both of them didn’t have the best games, but they did well in certain situations and found a way to score. Overall, Madrid’s game wasn’t the best but the perseverance was there in a game that lacked end product. Good victory. ¡Hala Madrid!

I would say broski it was still very good yeah Obv there were a couple of hickups in the defence but overall it was solid and good
P

The defense actually showed up and did really well. Asencio though will need rest with his injury. We can’t run him to the ground like we did Rudiger last season.

As a die hard Vini supporter, I’d mostly agree. Not back to his best levels, but not just anyone can maintain a level like that week in and week out. Had some poor decision making moments and some reckless giveaways, but overall a good match. Happy to see him back on his way to the top
K

He needs to pass the left side.
