It did get one extra nomination due to Casting being a category that was added this year which is an advantage the previous record holders didn’t have. But even besides that 15 Oscar nods would still be the most nominated film on Oscars history. It and One Battle After Another have been the two most acclaimed films of this year.

The big concern with an award for Stunts was that it would encourage stunt workers to push themselves to have bigger and better performances to win the award. They might end up taking unnecessary risks rather than prioritizing safety thinking an Oscar could be worth it in the end.

Most likely. My rule of thumb when I was trying to predict those awards was always “mixing for music, editing for gunfire.” Not a hard and fast rule by any means, but it served me well at Oscar parties. And Sinners has both

Is anyone else floored by F1 getting a picture of the year nom?! Edit: There has been a ton of feedback here, I personally enjoyed F1 and this isn’t me hating on it or calling it a bad movie by any means but best picture did really surprise me. Of the more “popular” films to earn a best picture nomination I was fully expecting weapons but I’m not an industry expert so my speculation is weightless.
