The topic of Alex Bregman is currently trending due to significant developments in Major League Baseball (MLB) related to his potential contract negotiations. Recent reports indicate that Bregman has received a five-year deal offer from the Cubs, which has garnered considerable attention. The high search interest can be attributed to the implications this move could have on his career and the team dynamics within the league.

Additionally, there are reports from NESN suggesting that a contract offer made to Bregman by the Red Sox made him uncomfortable, raising questions about his future decisions and preferences as a player. This situation adds further intrigue to Bregman’s standing in the league, as fans and analysts are keen to understand what factors are influencing his choices amidst ongoing contract negotiations.

These developments come at a time when MLB teams are reevaluating their rosters and strategies, leading to increased scrutiny around prominent players like Bregman. His expected role and decisions in the free agency landscape are pivotal topics that ignite search interest, driving fans to seek the latest updates on his status and potential moves within the league.

You lost out on your bench guy.
M

The idea of the Dodgers signing a guy for $175mil to be a bench bat is really amusing. Like I’m imaging headlines about Bregman ‘hoping to play his way into a platoon role, just excited to contribute any way he can.’

Especially Bregman lmao. Might as well go get Correa, too. Hire Beltran as a bench coach while they’re at it.

Ya’ll let Devers take a hike for nothing

Yeah , I’m a Sox fan, Red Sox Reddit is ablaze right now. Alienated Devers for (checks notes) 114 games of Bregman, who, btw sucked after he returned too early from his quad injury, rushing back to boost his FA value, but ops’d . 724 after he came back in mid July to the end of the season. Devers for Harrison, Tibbits(I think),who they traded for Dustin May, and the still twitching corpse of Jordan Hicks. But oh, the 250 million they saved on his contract will give us payroll flexibility. Unless they sign Bichette it doesn’t seem like they have any long term plan besides hoping Anthony and Mayer turn into superstars. What was it Andrew Friedman said? ” If you’re rational about every free agent, you’ll never sign anyone” or something to that effect. Henry is so fucking risk averse now it drives me crazy. 4th highest revenue in baseball and acting like a mid market team. 500+ million in revenue I believe. I keep waiting for them to go back to 2018 spending now that the contention window is open and it’s becoming clear there’s a fundamental shift in philosophy. Seems like the team has stopped trying to be East Coast Dodgers and the goal is to be a mid market team like the Tigers, Astros, though I believe the Astros have spent more the last few years. Incredibly frustrating.

I guess Marcelo Mayer it is.

As a Cubs fan, I’m probably more shocked than you are. Ricketts actually opened up the checkbook?

How do you feel right now?
U
UDPviper • 275 points
The same way you’ll feel when Bellinger signs somewhere else.
B
blooming_lions • 59 points
letting bellinger go is nowhere near as bad as the red sox giving up bregman, after what they pulled with devers last year.

Werner: “Did I turn off the coffee?” Breslow: “No…I did.” “Did you lock up?” “…Yeah.” “Did you close the garage?” “That’s it. I forgot to close the garage. That’s it.” “No, that’s not it…” “What else could we be forgetting?” “… BREGMAN!!!”

As much as I obligatorily despise the Cubs, I’m actually happy to see Ricketts not be a stingy owner for once.
A

He seems to have some kind of affinity for Bregman specifically. He was also the only guy he was willing to let Jed go above budget for last off season.

When John Henry stopped giving a fuck. We traded Betts and then five months later he bought the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now, obviously those things aren’t *directly* related, but it was pretty symbolic of the fact the Red Sox were now just another asset in a ledger.
