I went to buy an extra snow shovel at the Secaucus Home Depot. Thank god I already have salt because there were multiple people buying literal pallets of ice-melt and trying to load them in the back whatever small sedan they were driving. Like it’s one thing if you’re buying salt for a snow removal business (which buying from Home Depot seems a bit dubious) but when you’re trying to load a pallet of salt into a 20 year old Honda Civic, I really question if there is really any scenario where you actually need enough salt to cover an entire suburban mall parking lot. Side note, I’m actually impressed they not only managed to get 2,500lbs of salt into a Honda Civic, but then they actually managed to drive out of the lot as well.

Yeah I vividly remember a similar scene a bit before the last storm. It’s like minimum purchase amounts for salt and shovels were set to 5 or something. Like you really need 12 shovels and 20 salt bags dog? You shoveling all of Central Park by hand??? Idk I’m sure some people needed it but the vast majority were being dumb af. At least I knew their suspension was getting fucked up with all that weight in the back of their cars. Shit had no travel, rock bottom. And getting the car going is not going to be an issue . Stopping with all that weight is where it gets tricky and taxing on the car…

I think for this one it’s not the level of snow accumulation (which might not be as much as projected as it’s been snowing for hours now with nothing sticking) but the winds and snow reducing visibility to point that driving would be extremely unsafe. A travel ban makes sense.
