The topic “Mar-a-Lago” is currently trending due to a recent incident involving an armed man who was shot and killed by the Secret Service at the resort. The reports indicate that this individual entered the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, prompting an immediate and violent response from security forces. This event has sparked significant interest and concern, resulting in over 100,000 searches related to the location.

Key news outlets such as BBC, The New York Times, and CBS News have all reported on this shooting, which involved a 21-year-old man from North Carolina. The coverage of such a serious security breach at a high-profile residence of former President Donald Trump has led to public inquiries and heightened curiosity about the details surrounding the shooting.

The combination of the alarming nature of the event, along with its connection to a former president and his residence, serves to amplify the search interest. The fact that the incident resulted in a fatality and involved the Secret Service adds further gravity, compelling individuals to seek out more information.

From the BBC’s live feed on this: >Secret Service say the man was spotted near the north gate with what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can.

Floridian here. It’s called the gunshine state for a reason. This is very Florida man behavior and Im shocked, given the combo of meth heads and guns, that it doesn’t happen more often.

Shotgun is way too much of a Fudd gun for most of Florida. An ARP with no sights is much more Orlando.

Of course they are. It takes no energy at all to lie, but it takes enormous amounts of time to investigate the facts to prove that a lie is a lie. The RMVP used this to great effect in the 30s and the current regime does too. “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.” – Jonathan Swift

A.k.a. “Brandolini’s law” or “the bullshit asymmetry principle”: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini’s\_law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini’s_law) It’s frustrating AF and between the Republicans (and others of their ilk) and AI-fueled Dunning-Kruger, it’s pretty rough times if truth and facts matter to you.

A fair number of these full whackos don’t fit either way. But Trump does deserve blame for whipping up the kooks, even if it is blowing back in his face.

Neither Item is illegal. He probably had a spray can and his cap on backwards, so you know he was up to no good.
F
Forcistus • 54 points
If you watch the press statement, they are alleging that he was asked to drop both items. He complied by putting down the gas can but raised the alleged shotgun to a shooting position, and then was killed by the secret service and a deputy(?). Obviously, this is just their claim and American federal law enforcement under this admin is particularly untrustworthy. But until such other evidence comes to light, it seems justified at this point. Suspicious enough to be in a secured perimeter of Mara Lago with the alleged items.

>But until such other evidence comes to light, it seems justified at this point. With this administration, I’m going to need to see video evidence before I believe anything they say.

I remember several years ago during Trump’s first term, my dad told me there have been 9 assassination attempts on Donald Trump that have been thwarted by the FBI and CIA. If that were even remotely true, the job would’ve been done. Edit: I just want to point out that my dad has raised me to always be mistrusting of the government, now they can do no wrong in his eyes… I wonder what changed…
L
limeflavoured • 292 points
I could believe that there are a fair amount of plots against every president that get thwarted. In some ways it’s surprising given US history that only 4 have succeeded, plus a couple more getting close.
M
MadTeaParty_ • 155 points
The Secret Service said there is an average of 30 to 40 valid threats per month, but they are stopped before they go too far. We just don’t hear about them.

Wonder what constitutes a valid threat. You’ll see those videos people post of US secret service showing up at their door about concerning tweets and stuff.
M
Manos_Of_Fate • 26 points
Keep in mind that credible doesn’t necessarily mean competent.
W
WorldBoom • 20 points
I used to do threat assessment in private security (shoulder holster & earpiece, not rent-a-cop), in my experience, “credible” means the threat has specific operational details indicating how/when/where it’ll be carried out that match up with either the targets itinerary or (if known) the perpetrators abilities, resources, & access.
C
charlotteRain • 5 points
I don’t think those are considered valid threats but and they do show up to scare the everliving shit out of people. Back when Obama was in office, my little brothers roommate made a stupid “joke” on Facebook. He was a broke college student living in student housing with no means to do anything. They still shows up and had a talk with him.
L
limeflavoured • 6 points
Cases like that I would imagine that they tend to shit people up and tell them to delete the posts, because you don’t often hear of people going to court over it.
