Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, known for her role on the reality television series “Jersey Shore,” has made headlines following her announcement of a stage 1 cervical cancer diagnosis. This news has generated significant interest, leading to a surge in search queries related to her name. The gravity of a cancer diagnosis, especially from a public figure, typically prompts increased curiosity and concern amongst fans and the general public.

Multiple reputable sources, including Variety and FOX 29 Philadelphia, have reported on this recent development. The consistency of coverage from verified news platforms has likely amplified search interest, as many individuals seek to learn more about Snooki’s health status and any updates regarding her situation.

In addition to the personal impact of her diagnosis, Snooki’s call to action for others to prioritize their health by getting regular pap smears further contributed to the uptick in searches. This advocacy not only heightens awareness about cervical cancer but also encourages proactive health measures, prompting individuals to seek information about both her case and the importance of screenings.

I believe they’re talking about a different biopsy of the cervix to find out if you have cervical cancer.

They’re not supposed to be
A
Ariadaria • 45 points
Yea but doctors often aren’t open about how painful it is and do not offer any management. Women deserve to be prepared for that kind of pain during a procedure.
R
rotbath • 5 points
Mine was done without anesthesia. I even got electrically shocked during it because my hand accidentally touched a screw on the table!
A
Accomplished-Car3850 • 2 points
I was fully put under anesthesia for mine. Is that not the norm?
C
ChemicalPlayground • 10 points
I had it done in my docs office, no anesthesia. It was very painful. I found out a few years later when I started working in the OR that LEEP can be done in the OR under general anesthesia. I was never given the option.

I had mine done in an office with no anesthesia also. It was horrible. The whole experience was so traumatic and the pain was absolutely terrible. I also had a colposcopy that was worse than recovering from a C-section.
L
loubling • 2 points
Most aren’t given the option to be under anesthesia because it’s such a short procedure.
G
gindy0506 • 9 points
Not always. It depends on the provider, and sadly, probably insurance as well.
A
Ashamed_Response_168 • 5 points
I was given the option and definitely chose full anesthesia
B
brisch19 • 4 points
I’ve had LEEPs, colposcopies, cone biopsy, and a uterus biopsy that made me scream out in pain. They never ever gave that as an option. (My margins were clear last year)
G
gerkonnerknocken • 2 points
I had a uterine biopsy last year and my doc and I had a convo about how most people can’t do the anaesthesia in the US because of their deductibles or the anaethesthetist isn’t in network. Most peope can’t fork over 10k for 20 minutes.
V
vrymonotonous • -17 points
I mean yeah of course. But it’s not right that under every post about awareness there’s people saying “but they hurt”, when so many young women avoid them for that exact reason. We know it hurts. No point in making people even more scared to take care of themselves down there.
F
fiestybox246 • 5 points
Having an IUD inserted isn’t extremely painful for me, but I don’t go around telling other women they shouldn’t speak on their experiences. People talk all the time about how uncomfortable colonoscopy preps are, but I don’t see anyone saying they’re just going to skip it. It just creates a discussion so people know what to expect.

This^ I’m going to be getting a hysterectomy in the next few years due to abnormal paps. Advocate for yourselves!!
O
Ok_Recipe2871 • 12 points
Especially in Ontario Canada now because our healthcare system won’t pay for them yearly anymore( not sure how many years it’s paid now but I’m thinking every 3 years) having to pay for it deters a lot of women but please get it done. Edit to say that my experience is only in Ontario Canada not all of Canada my apologies for miss speaking.. I appreciate that no one jumped down my throat 🙂
F
FoxAdventurous8321 • 4 points
Healthcare is a provincial mandate so different provinces cover yearly screening still.

Yes I edited my comment thanks
S

I’m in Ontario and they just changed it from a pap every 3 years to HPV testing every 5 years
O
Ok_Recipe2871 • 2 points
Ya that’s crazy becasue HPV can be dormant from months to years!

We have to pay for paps now?!
F
floofyalpacabutts • 1 points
If they find cancer then you do get to have an annual covered
O
Ok_Recipe2871 • 3 points
Yes but that’s awful! Some cancers can spread in the 3-5 years in between checks 🙁
F
floofyalpacabutts • 1 points
Oh I totally agree, I guess I’m “lucky” with my cancerous cervix 😒
O
Ok_Recipe2871 • 1 points
Yes very lucky 🙁 I had it in my uterus and it spread before they found it becasue I didn’t go get checked so totally my fault so I ALWAYS ALWAYS tell women to go get a PAP test because I didn’t and I had to get a Full Pelvix Exenteration 🙁
G
gerkonnerknocken • 1 points
That’s a safe interval if you’re last pap was normal. 🙂
N

I had a friend of mine die from cervical cancer. She had issues she would bring up to the doctor and they did not look further into it until it was too late. She died within 2 years of being diagnosed If you have issues, be sure to advocate for yourself
A
AdiposeQueen • 42 points
May I ask what kind of issues? I’ve had issues for a long time, tests and ultrasounds finding nothing. I’m always afraid we aren’t finding something.
D
deltarefund • 21 points
I spent many years having my issues dismissed until finally finding a Dr who listened and found stage 2 ovarian cancer.

My MIL almost died from undiagnosed cervical cancer. Hers was from her symptoms being marked up to other illnesses she had instead. It actually got found because of something else that sent her to the hospital.

Gald she caught it early, and best of luck in her recovery. Glad this will highlight the need for pap smears
T

Hoping she makes a full recovery. I’m glad she caught it early.

Over 90% of CC diagnoses are because of the HPV virus. The HPV vaccine is routinely recommended for preteens at ages 11–12 but can be given starting at age 9 through 26 years. It is most effective when given before exposure to the virus. Adults aged 27–45 may receive the vaccine after discussing their risks with a healthcare provider. Is there anything I can do to prevent myself from getting cervical cancer? Yes. First, if you’re eligible for an HPV vaccine, get one. Second, if you’re currently using tobacco products, stop. And third, get a Pap test or an HPV test with or without a Pap test, as frequently as the current screening guidelines recommend for someone of your age and risk level. That will help your health care provider find cervical cancer early when it’s most treatable.
