Daryl Morey needs to go. Kelly Oubre is one of our best players. I’m sorry to say it, but he’s terrible relative to other wings. He’s not a winning player. Neither is Grimes. Grimes should be ripping 7-8 threes a game, but he’s tentative with his shot AND turnover prone which is an awful combo for a guard. We sit here destined for a first round exit or worse while Boston hasn’t had their best player all season and is still a threat to win the East without him. Morey has not done a good job at all.

Grimes is clearly in his head and thats an indictment on the front office and coaching. We found a diamond in the rough and should have offered him a long term contract. Instead we fucked around and now hes out there playing for a deal whether thats intentional or not. Every shot he takes effects his percentages which effect his next contract. He’s nervous to miss and fuck up his money.

Your Grimes point is an important one. As much as he annoys me I don’t think Nurse uses him properly at all. When Nurse is running the two big lineups I think he should have both Grimes and Maxey on the floor at the same time. Watford should probably be the 5th. During those minutes it should be Grimes and Maxey driving and looking for the slashing big, their own layup or kicking out to the other. IMO Nurse’s biggest weakness is his incoherent rotations and lack of simple opponent specific game plans

Shot creation and ball handling still the biggest issue on this team for the 10th year in a row. Just not enough all around threats to base a good offense around. Joel hides it all and the 2man game with Maxey has saved things a lot.

It’s the same thing every time. Bad at shooting, no guard depth, out rebounded, and of course always injured/suspended. You are missing two thirds of your payroll.

It’s not just about guards tho. You don’t necessarily need or want a ton of small guards. Maxey, VJ, Payne, Grimes is enough at guard realistically. The issue is that we don’t have good size and ball handling/play making anywhere else. It’s very easy to swarm Maxey or whoever is the primary handler and make others go off the dribble against you. The solution to this isn’t having a million small guards cause they all can’t play with each other anyway. The solution is to get some players with size who can help. Guys like Oubre, Barlow, Walker, Bona, Drummond just flat out kill all spacing and are no threats at all with the ball in their hands. They are just bodies, rebounders and off ball slashers. You desperately need Embiids size and gravity and you desperately need PG’s size and play making. They cover everything for guys like Grimes, VJ, Oubre, Barlow, etc. This is why we ultimately traded McCain for another 1st. McCain doesn’t help us at all very much. He can’t create on his own and he’s small. There’s no need. That pick should be used on some more versatile players with good size to build around Maxey, VJ. Because we clearly can’t rely on Embiid/George playing lots of games anymore

Nobody is defending anything. But there really wasn’t a whole lot that could be done unless you trade the suspended 35 year old on a max deal to upgrade there. Which didn’t seem likely. None of the team’s primary issues could be solved at this deadline. So they opted to expand the potential for next year with acquiring more picks. This is just the hard truth. Embiid is banged up again and our other main guy is suspended. One of our core pieces is a rookie with growing pains. Trading all our 1sts in a rushed deadline for some mid role players is not changing any of our issues this season.
