Jesus the progression in this sport is insane. I remember watching X-games when they first started and just one of these tricks would have been a show stopper and he’s just rattling them off one after the other smooth as fk. Crazy.

At some point I’m wondering if it’s starting to max out. This shit is bonkers and world class, but they are all so good I’m feeling like it doesn’t hit as hard. Like what would be the next big trick that would be a game changer?

Blind folded ? lol
S
soda_cookie • 6 points
Honestly….that would work for me
K
karvup • 6 points
Sometimes I wish I had a blindfold on because what they are doing makes me clench everything.
C
chump_games • 86 points
At some point they’ll hit the limits of possibility, so naturally it will evolve into halfpipe ski ballet. I eagerly await the day
K
kaotate • 64 points
It’s the winter Olympics so they’ll just stack someone on top of him.
R
runnerswanted • 14 points
I’d watch a dude trying to do a halfpipe while giving a piggyback to another skier.
C

Pairs halfpipe!
J

Or chuck a rifle on his back and have him shoot targets at the bottom of the run
S
somewittyusername92 • 9 points
Nah, shoot the targets while in the air

Synchronized half pipe!

Battle pipe. Two skiers enter, one skier leaves.
M

They only award a gold medal for that one, no silver or bronze. for obvi reasons
L

I’m anxiously awaiting the Halfpipe Luge event

Idk watching the event there were a lot of falls. Of course they are all amazing but this run stood out as very deserving of gold.

Slap some rocket thrusters onto the back of the skis

Removing both skis and switching them
S

The pipe will get bigger
C
counterfitster • 4 points
It’s been a while since everyone decided superpipes should be 22′ high instead of 18′.
Y

We always think we max out but someone always comes along
A

That’s what I thought when the first 1440 was done in a big air comp.
L

Grinding on Saturns rings. Would be idk….cool I guess.
U

More rotations
S

Integrate rails into the pipe, idk, maybe add something to it?
G

Super Duper Half Pipe
M
MoneyCock • 1 points
Gonna have to make the pipes wider and taller!
L
laplogic • 1 points
Big air kind of felt like that. Everyone is at the ceiling for what you can do physically and it just comes down to style and how clean you land. I guess gymnastics would be similar. Always going to be people that push the bar though.
J
jermleeds • 1 points
What if we make it a threequarter pipe? Riders can hit jumps taking them to the other side of the pipe.
V
Visual-Fail4327 • 1 points
Like the NBA dunk contest which has become, well, no one knows because no one watched.
D
districtgertie • 1 points
Drop in from a helicopter? 🤣
F
FrightinglyPunny • 1 points
Extend the pipe.
N
NativePA • 1 points
It’s getting like aerials. Between that and big air it’s 3 sides of the same coin. I find slopestyle interesting anymore
E

Two people on the same skis at once (like those people lying on top of each other sliding down the track). Synchronized. Two people next to each other doing the exact same moves.
B
BiNumber3 • 1 points
Synchronized? Duos? Duels?
N
NotToday__ • 63 points
When the x-games started, the halfpipe was half as tall as the current ones. These modern tricks were not possible back then, they didn’t get enough air.
V
Vuokki20 • 28 points
The difference is huge. I rewatched some time ago few runs from 2002 olympic (snowboard) halfpipe. That pipe was so much smaller and you had dudes running without helmets (looking at you Sorsa with your mohawk). The jumps looked cool and you had distinctive styles. These days it’s spin to win. Also these superpipes are just asking for grave injuries to happen.
D
doublesecretprobatio • 15 points
I feel like all the freestyle events are just “how many times can I spin”. Not that I can do any of it but it’s kinda boring.
B
bullmooooose • 12 points
This is part of the reason I like Slopestyle. The rail section really opens things up for a bit more creativity, and this year the rails were crazy with a lot of athletes struggling to hit them clean which made it more entertaining.
L
ldg25 • 7 points
If the summer Olympics can have breakdancing, I don’t see why the winter Olympics can’t have knuckle huck
B
bullmooooose • 3 points
Knuckle huck would definitely be a sweet addition! Maybe in future games, kind of crazy that slopestyle only debuted in the olympics in 2014 and big air in 2018. For sure room for more freestyle events!
M
Mister-Psychology • 2 points
The women’s events are more interesting because it’s not just 100 spins. A lot of the time it’s simple tricks and clean runs. It makes it easier to follow.
E
ElbowRager • 6 points
Yeah, I agree. The ~~judges~~ commentators talked a lot about style, but really all that meant was dropping in fakie… One of the snowboarders did a Method grab and I thought that was cool lmao
B
Biengo • 15 points
Tony hawk hit a 900 and it was world shaking. Now a 1080 is just… ok cool. Humans are insane.
–
-Thick_Solid_Tight- • 5 points
The 900 is a specific trick not just the number of rotations. The way it is done it is what makes it so hard. Also its skateboarding where the board isn’t latched to your feet.
B
BrianBash • 6 points
Right?! Like, the Aerials event. Am I tripping or do they go much higher than they used to?!
S
soyellow • 6 points
I’ve watched a lot of x games over the years, and I find the progression now is more technical tricks. Like guys are throwing quad 21’s routinely, but guys like alex hall who have won everything are starting to do crazy body contorsions like spinning 180 then spinning back the other way and shit so I think thats the next level
C
Cynicalteets • 2 points
He makes it look so easy that I’m like: ya I could probably do that after a year of training. Hold my beer.
