Nobody has an issue with that. It’s the sitting of healthy players, guys getting shut down for surgeries that didn’t really need etc. It’s easy to bottom out with a bad roster. You still have to build up a good one after that. Some of these teams already have decent rosters, but are trying to ensure they end up with a worse record than they otherwise would – to speed up the rebuild.

It’s not really phantom injuries. Pro athletes used to play through injuries all the time (and still have to in the NFL and on good NBA teams). But today those guys are sitting out to heal for next season. And to be honest I think this would happen even without the draft. Why play your injured star this year if you aren’t a contender, when it risks his availability for next season when you might be good?
