Yes! Thankfully! I remember how Kim Yuna got robbed from her Gold in 2014 by Adelina Sotnikova. It was daylight robbery in Sochi and it still makes me angry to this day. At least Alysa Liu won on merit, congratulations to her! Solid and fun performance! Also, I don’t understand how Nakai Ami only got 9th for her FS. I thought maybe they were happy tears? I’ll have to go back and watch again. It looked like all of the medallists were overwhelmed that they made it, and that can come out in different ways… plus it was her last skate! I didn’t take it as solely crying for missing the gold.

I’m almost certain they were sad tears. Sad she missed out on gold because of 1 mistake, sad she’s retiring, sad she’ll never get another chance. She also looked really grumpy when she walked out for the medal ceremony. She certainly cheered up once she was on the ice and the cameras were on her but I got the impression she was heavily beating herself up backstage.

She failed a triple Toeloop after a triple Lutz combo and had a couple of under rotations called. Although 67 PCT feels too low, 9th overall in the FS is too low

I hate to say it.. but her PCS is so low because she kinda still skates like a junior? Which makes sense because this is her first senior year. Her choreography just isn’t on a senior level yet. There was no way her PCS was going to beat out Kaori or Alysa’s.

Yeah, but i’m also very interested to see Mao Shimada on the next cycle (JP). Current three time junior champion that won the last one by 30+pts difference. She was not in this olympics because ISU only allow 17y if they were born in the first three months of the year (Shin Jia was her direct competitor last juniors and was in this olympics because she was born in march while Mao is October).

Her components score was significantly lower and she messed up a combination jump. She tried to do a triple but ended up doing a botched double. That’s lower base score with negative points for bad execution.

The fact that Alysa Liu won by skating to Macarthur Park of all songs is absolutely genius–and it was a phenomenal skate. Ami Nakai’s joy at winning bronze was peak Olympian, and I loved seeing her and Alysa celebrating with each other. They were SO excited. For anyone who is unfamiliar with the song, the lyrics to Macarthur Park are hilariously terrible: ‘Someone left the cake out in the rain. I don’t think that I can take it, cause it took so long to bake it, and I’ll never have that recipe again! Oh no!’ and somehow, Alysa turned this into a glorious skate and a gold medal. Amazing.
