Aside Eggman, who has had the same VA since Shadow 05 in the games and in Sonic X for years prior. Tails has had the same VA since Unleashed I didn’t really care for Colleen’s interpretation until Sonic Movie 2. Though it seems my problem was more the writing for Tails as opposed to the Voice.

Tails was actually played by Kate Higgins from Colors through Lost World. Coleen took over for Sonic Boom and IIRC officially replaced Kate in the mainline starting with Forces.

Not quite, if you’re referring to Long John Baldry, who did Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and died a good decade after that show ended. Also the first English game VA for Eggman, Deem Bristow, was already replaced (along with the rest of the cast) before he died, so it wasn’t a case of Sega needing to quickly find a replacement.

okay but as a kid i was devestated to find out Tails was a boy for some reason. I was always player 2 as a kid so playing Sonic 2 i usually tails and i developed a strong love for him. And when i finally got around to reading the manual and saw male pronouns i was like oh 🙁 so it makes me a little happy that he has a female voice actor (even though as an adult i know that is common for women to voice young males in cartoons it makes little me happy)

The Sonic films are not perfect, but you can tell they are made by a team that genuinely loves the character. They are trying to hit the most important aspects of a video game adaptation: -Visual style faithful to the source without being derivative (fixed after first trailer) -Slow introduction to the main cast and building their arc, rather than dropping everyone in at the same time -Inclusion of canon events while telling an original story -human characters that take a backseat to the main cast rather than hogging the spotlight (best balance found in Sonic 3) -Easter eggs to the games without being obtrusive/distracting -Effective use of game’s music during emotional/hype scenes -Hiring cast members that make sense for their characters, rather than chasing the latest big celebrity

Helps that the guy directing these (Jeff Fowler) has worked on the series before, as he was on the team for the cutscenes in Shadow’s solo game.

Yeah, especially for using celebrities. I mean they could have just used the cast from Sonic Boom for all the CGI characters and that would have been a W, they did use the common Tails voice actor. I do understand using big names and they seem to make the right decisions.
