The topic of Iran is currently trending due to heightened tensions involving potential military actions from the United States under the Trump administration. Recent news from Axios highlights that Trump is moving closer to initiating a significant conflict with Iran, which has raised concerns about the implications of such a confrontation. As details about possible military strikes emerge, public interest has surged.

Furthermore, live updates from The Guardian indicate that there are conflicting messages from the White House regarding Trump’s intentions, with reports suggesting a desire for diplomacy while military options remain on the table. This duality creates a sense of uncertainty that compels individuals to seek more information.

Additionally, CNN’s coverage that the US military is prepared to strike Iran as soon as this weekend adds urgency to the situation. The closeness of potential military action, coupled with the lack of a definitive decision from Trump, has prompted many to search for updates and analysis, significantly driving up search interest in the topic.

How can you have negative reactors “under construction”?

Slated to be decommissioned/demolished.

The Germans abandoned their nuclear program because of environmentalists Ironically enough they proceeded to build oil pipelines from Russia to make up for it, which in hindsight was incredibly stupid but as am American we made a similar mistake outsourcing manufacturing to China so I guess I can’t throw stones in a glass house…
T
Tequal99 • 23 points
What oil pipeline are you talking about? Germany built a gas pipeline. The reasoning behind it wasn’t to expand gas consumption. It was to dodge transmission fees by countries like Ukraine, Poland, etc.
H
Hushchildta • 4 points
Lowering the cost of something goes hand in hand with expanding its consumption. Basic supply and demand.

The enviromentalist movement in germany developed out of the anti-nuclear movement. The anti-nuclear movement developed during the cold war because Germany was planed to be nuked immediatly by everyone ones ww3 starts and gained strength because there was one nuclear scandal after the other. From leaking radioactive barrels of unknown numbers in the Asse, to endless debates with no solution to where to bunker the nuclear waste longterm, to scientists proving that the political most likely longterm storage is unsafe over Chernobly and Fukushima. Nuclear power was tried in germany and had to many problems. The gas pipeline was independent of whole nuclear thing and a combination securing cheap energy for the industry, russian influence and “Wandel durch Handel”, basicly trading so much with Russia that anything but good and peaceful relationships with us would be so unprofitable for Russia, that it would be insane to risk it. This did not work since Russia is insane.

Another thing for Germany abandoning nuclear-power is simply cost. The old reactors were build almost 50 years ago and bringing them up to code would have cost a fortune (it was actually planed to decomission these even sooner). Nevermind the insurance-costs, that NOBODY wants to pay for. Also, for the scandals you mentioned: the ones you listed were just the most recent ones. There were others from the 70s to early 2000s wich included stuff like: an explosion next to a reactor in Hamburg that the owners didn’t even report for months, the same PP storing radioactive-waste under the visitors-center because they didn’t want to pay for disposal or 1 in NRW dumping several tons of radioactive wastewater in the surrounding area (soil and water are contaminated to this day and the pps area is the region with the highest leukemia-rates in Germany) and later “losing” about 2500 fuelelements, somehow… Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against nuclear-energy but the people running these places are usually cheap and lazy wich poses huge risks for the public. There is a reason that all french NPP are in small pockets along the belgian border…

> because Germany was planed to be nuked immediatly by everyone ones ww3 starts Why is that?
V
Veraenderer • 2 points
Germany was the frontline during the cold war. The US and Britain planned to nuke Germany to stop an Soviet advance, the Soviets planned to make Germany a nuclear wasteland to destroy NATO resistance in Europe and France planned to nuke Germany as a warning to the Soviets.

AwkwardMacaron433 • 5 points
Yeah I can tell that you have zero fucking clue what you’re talking about. 1) we have no oil pipelines to Russia 2) we had gas pipelines to Russia 3) we didn’t build new gas pipelines to Russia to compensate nuclear but to reduce costs 4) we decommissioned the last nuclear power plants after being cut off from Russian gas already 5) most of our gas is used for heating and not electrification. At the same time, you can’t power a gas heater with electricity. Hence gas and nuclear power are fairly unrelated to each other 6) nuclear power has been compensated by rapidly expanding renewable energy. The only valid criticism is that we decommissioned nuclear before coal, which was not optimal with regard to fast carbon reduction. But at the time when the decision was made, it made more sense.
E
EventBulky6841 • 6 points
So why are we in Sweden funding your electricity deficit? A lot of people are tired of it and many would like to cut the cable to Germany’s grid.
S
Shimakaze771 • 9 points
You aren’t funding shit. Selling electricity to Germany under market value is simply more economical than turning off power plants over night
S
Scotty1928 • 5 points
Funding?
D
ddlJunky • 3 points
I don’t get it. What benefit would cutting cables have for you? It’s a normal market where electricity gets traded.
E
EventBulky6841 • 1 points
Despite an excess in electricity, the high demand in Germany inflates prices for domestic households by up to 100%. It’s mostly a one-way trade and it’s affecting home owners in Sweden a lot.
M
MintGreenDoomDevice • 2 points
Where do you think the profits from selling for a higher price are going? Vanish into thin air? Dont complain to Germany if your government is apparently not able to properly tax and distribute the profits between energy providers and consumers.
E
EventBulky6841 • 1 points
That’s a whole another discussion. The fact is Germany was not ready to shut down it’s nuclear power plants and the effects have been clear from day one even for Germany’s neighbours.
M
MintGreenDoomDevice • 3 points
> That’s a whole another discussion. Apparently not. You are the guy talking about ‘funding’ Germany and a ‘one way trade’. Which frankly makes absolutely no fucking sense. You are not giving energy away for free, you are selling for a profit. Failure to distribute said profits aint on Germany.
D
ddlJunky • 2 points
The effects are that Germany has to pay a premium to their neighbours to get their energy. No one is obligated to take the deal.
C
Confident-Ad-6978 • 3 points
Renewable energy can’t make up for nuclear. Removing nuclear in favor of coal was supremely stupid and never made sense to any of us outside Germany. Even Trump told you not to have a gas pipeline with Russia btw.
S
Shimakaze771 • 2 points
>Removing nuclear in favor of coal Good thing that didn’t happen and both are being phased out
C
Confident-Ad-6978 • 1 points
It did though. for a time coal usage went up. Even in 2025 it raised compared to 2024. If they focused on Nuclear it could be lower today plus without an energy deficit. But German Greens are making Germany shoot itself in the foot.

>Renewable energy can’t make up for nuclear. It already did. Renewables are our electricity base load. We didn’t replace nuclear with coal. We are replacing both with renewables. We are just faster with the nuclear, because nuclear is expensive as shit.

Aehm no. Germany used more fossil gas than on/off shore wind for energy production. https://www.energy-charts.info/charts/energy/chart.htm?l=en

Nope, they were shutdown by conversatives in 2011 to gain votes after Fukushima happened. One Gaspipeline was already build at that time and the other one was not even planned yet. And gas and nuclear are totally different in form of needs. Please stop spreading missinformation of other countries.
A

Hearing about this is recent years is mind boggling to me. What benefits could this possibly have? How is this a concern for the environment? It seems absolutely asinine
M
Meowser02 • 1 points
It was back when our elites had the delusion that if we economically interlink everybody then there will be world peace. It’s the same reason as to why all our factories were outsourced to China.
S
Scotty1928 • 1 points
The germans have abandoned NPP because of the right wing CDU, which are anything but environmentallists. Educate yourself.
N

Nuclear opposition in Germany is not limited to environmentalists by any stretch
M

Because of “environmentalism”. And no, those pipes were being planned and some built long before that.

Seems crazy that Germany is the size of Montana, yet Germany has 28 nuclear reactors.
M
mascachopo • 1 points
This is propaganda, don’t put too much thought into it. If they wanted to be fair they would have simply put a zero but they accounted for the ones that are being decommissioned because the nuclear lobby wants to shame them. In reality the EU is building two by the way.

I don’t think Ukraine is really constructing any nuclear power plants at the moment. They have some other stuff to worry about.
