I am still so shocked and saddened by her death. Seeing her pop up on Wildcard Kitchen and BBF was really bittersweet.

I wasn’t expecting to see her on Wildcard Kitchen at all and my mouth made a very weird noise
C
chalie36 • 83 points
Did you think her episode of Wildcard was weird? Felt like the cut all of her interviews and her voice over stuff felt faked/ heavily edited
M
Mare13ear • 69 points
She also 100% seemed uninterested? Maybe that’s not the right way to say it, but she just didn’t seem to be all there. Was definitely a weird appearance.

Impressive_Car_4222 • 27 points
I think she kinda just…. Gave up. Like she was running on fumes.
A
Adventurous_Grand125 • 6 points
Kind of felt it, too. Didn’t seem like herself.
L

I definitely got the same vibe that she didn’t want to be there, almost annoyed. I swear I could see such sadness in her eyes. Poor Anne. You just never know what someone is going through
B

I’m sure a lot of their contracts call for “office work” aka being a judge, single episode type stuff. I hate wednesdays too.
W

It was so strange.
Q
Queezy_0110 • 42 points
She looked really sad at that point too. Almost stoned or drunk. But definitely sad eyes.

I noticed it too 💔

She was one of those people that always looked the same age. For years. On Wildcard she suddenly looked like she had aged. She looked tired and not really into it.
L

Looked the same way on Next Gen Chef (I think that’s what it is called).
S

I know, you never understand how the show actually happened because it’s so edited.
C

I couldn’t watch it.

So What did the supposed suicide note say for goodness sake!! I just can’t believe she’d give up like that…she was one Tough Lady and Excellent Cook!!!
S
Special_Persimmon_52 • 36 points
I’m going to say this as gently as possible: I don’t think it’s anyone’s business as to the contents of her suicide note or the suicidal ponderings found in her journal. Those were her deeply personal thoughts about whatever demons were stalking her and whichever wounds had pierced her heart. Also, having family members who’ve taken their lives, I would say that suicide is not about giving up. It’s more like saying it’s too painful here, I can no longer find my joy, and perhaps there’s peace for my soul on the other side. Anne was a bright, fiery spirit and a memorable human being. May she rest in peace.

The people who she wanted to know, know. Law enforcement and the first responders who were at the scene know. It is not your right to know (or anyone’s) *”I can’t believe that she’d give up like that.”* She didn’t *”she was one TOUGH LADY.”* She was It appears that you aren’t familiar with mental illness. Illness is illness.

Loved her and still sad at her passing. I feel awful for the sadness her family is left with. I just hope they all find peace. She will be missed.
S
SassyPotato592 • 65 points
When I had an instagram, she posted a lot and would say “I love my life and love what I do”. I know depression can mask itself well, but now I’m haunted by the idea that those were more affirmations. Her death was one of the harder celebrity deaths for me. I still say “slices, sticks, dices” and “brown food tastes good” while I’m cooking.

I always wonder about her previous evening.. it was said that she performed stand up comedy and did really well and was in a great mood.

Right? So how it ended made no sense 🫤

Often times when depressed people get that good feel energy they finally have the strength to go through with their plans.

She was at peace with the decision to leave us. That’s why she was in a great mood.
A

I always think of her and say “Anne, I cleaned my station and no red finger!!!”
F
Firegoat1 • 54 points
That is disappointing to read. Just a reminder to us all you never know what someone else is going through, no matter how successful they seem. Let’s all be a little extra gentle with each other.

I’ve wondered if she left a note. As much as I want to, I know we’ll never know her reason/reasons as it’s none of our business. I am heartbroken all over again, though I never really stopped. She must have been in so much pain and that makes me so incredibly sad.
M

My husband and I were just talking about her yesterday and how sad it is that she saw that as her best option. She was a treasure.

Anne will always be with us in our memories, through our food and on TV. For everyone who complains about reruns, I for one will be grateful when I see Anne on my screen. I will be happy seeing her in her element, her place of comfort in a kitchen, or judging. It’s not for us to guess what she was thinking. I treasure the cookbook I received as a gift because she made me feel like I Cooked Like A Rockstar.

Did anyone else hear her say at the end of the show; “Let’s go to karaoke” . That’s what she did the night before she took her life.
F
Firegoat1 • 9 points
I agree with the vibe, but I think it was her first attempt at stand up comedy after taking classes.
S
scully360 • -10 points
Can we please let her rest in peace, please?
W
weedywet • 174 points
No one is stopping her. People want to know Why do you want to whitewash the facts? Maybe her suicide could HELP some people with depression avoid it?
S
SnarknadOH • 7 points
That’s great people want to know. That doesn’t mean they’re entitled to all information on a public figure. [Also research has shown that suicide by public figures actually correlates with an increase in suicide in the public.](https://www.publichealth.columbia.edu/news/study-examines-suicide-contagion-following-celebrity-deaths-opening-avenues-prevention) More information doesn’t help. If anything, I think it makes the option seem more normalized.
T
Throwaway_inSC_79 • 77 points
I would disagree. As somebody who tried to take their own life, I’m not waking up and deciding to end it because Anne did it. Or Robin Williams, or Anthony Bourdain. No, the thought it there. It’s seeing these people who seem to be doing great choosing to end things that makes us/me think “wow, they were doing great and couldn’t handle it. I’m not doing great, so what hope do I have?” That’s the truth. Nobody sees this article and just decides to end things to join in. They had the thoughts and struggle too. But society doesn’t want to deal with that. Mental health still has a stigma. And I say discussing these things only makes those who don’t struggle uncomfortable, because only the general public wants to bury it.

“Discussing these things only makes those who don’t struggle uncomfortable.” I couldn’t agree more.

I have also been in that spot and it sounds like you and I have had very different reactions and takes on things. I absolutely experienced a contagion effect the week Bourdain and Kate Spade died. Increased discourse about it didn’t help me. Which is why I think academic studies are helpful – they systemize anecdotes, which can be across the board. Acknowledging talking about celebrity suicides doesn’t help people is a far cry from burying the reality. Ps it takes a real piece of shit to downvote someone talking about their experience with suicide, even if it’s different from someone else’s IN A LITERAL CONVERSATION ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH STIGMAS
W
weedywet • -2 points
That report also discusses HOW media discussed those cases and yet still concludes the reactions vary greatly from incident to incident. Anne Burrell didn’t need your “protection”.
L
lfergy • 1 points
Yall can agree to disagree. There is no right or wrong here. As someone who has also dealt with suicidal thoughts, I do find it a bit macabre when people feel entitled *to know why* a public figure took their life. But I can acknowledge that is painting a broad stroke-because some people asking genuinely care. But others just wanna know for the sake of knowing. I think knowing it was intentional VS an accident is helpful dialogue & helps reduce stigma. I don’t think knowing the intimate details of an intentional death are necessary to have that conversation.
