The keyword “fat tuesday 2026” is trending due to a significant spike in search interest as the date approaches, with over 20,000 searches recorded. News coverage from multiple outlets is highlighting the upcoming celebrations and events associated with Mardi Gras, particularly in New Orleans and Mobile. These articles provide essential information about parade schedules and key dates leading up to the observance of Lent.

Recent publications, such as the USA Today article, explicitly detail the Mardi Gras parade schedule in New Orleans, capturing the excitement and anticipation of the local celebrations. Nobody seems to have any idea what the eff is going on including the mayor. Commission meeting Tuesday night about it.
T

Oh they knew.
S
StrawberryRedneck • 23 points
Yeah they do that when they know they’re gonna catch a lot of heat. Freddie claimed the same thing originally with the boring tunnel. I’m sure the mayor was aware of this development.
F
FireZucchini33 • 44 points
Boring tunnel was sprung on the city and negotiated by bill Lee
S
StrawberryRedneck • 3 points
Yes and Freddie was aware of the interest and the plan going back to 2024. He did not learn about the project the same day the rest of us did, despite his insinuation otherwise when the news first broke. It wasn’t quite as “sprung on the city” as folks like to suggest. He didn’t do the negotiations but yes he was aware of the plan.
F
FireZucchini33 • 28 points
Being aware of interest and being involved in a project are two very different things. I heard Nashville wants a baseball team, that doesn’t mean I’m hiding anything from the public about it 😂 🤡 If you have a solid news source that Freddy was fully informed about the boring tunnel, I’d love to see it. Please kindly don’t send receipts from Facebook, truth social, newsmax, etc. And OBVIOUSLY the mayor knew before the general public lol – that’s generally how it works every single time with any issue.
S
StrawberryRedneck • -2 points
I never claimed he was involved. He did lead the public to believe at first that he knew nothing about it, though. Words and actions matter to me.

You can watch the Wilson.County Commission meeting live on Wilson County TV on YouTube. I am trying to verify the date is tomorrow and what time.

Where is this information coming from? I can’t find anything about it except for the story linked to the OP at the top. None of the other articles about ICE purchases lists Tennessee as a location. There is no purchase information anywhere that I have been able to find. There was a warehouse purchased in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. Could this be a mistake on the part of writers of this article? It is suspect that no one in local government knows anything about it.
O
One-Story4814 • 4 points
That’s what the mayor suggested – that there is confusion about which Lebanon it is.
G
Gingerjen5335 • 2 points
As the OP, I would love it if that is so, although I dont want people warehoused anywhere.
I
Inthetreeswithus • 1 points
Did you research it before you wrote the post? The article you posted and others from Nashville area publications all say the same things and seem to be more of a spin up than researched articles. I don’t want people warehoused either, but if they are going through due process stuff they need to be housed somewhere.
G
Gingerjen5335 • 1 points
I saw the article, read it, noted it was from a trusted paper, and then had a nervous breakdown and posted it. I don’t know what type of research would have been possible.
I
Inthetreeswithus • 1 points
Reading the article where the links have no mention of Tennessee, no links to anything happening in Tennessee, and the mayor does not know anything about it. I saw the same exact article in several Nashville area publications – with no information citations and no verification. I did a Google search and found an article about a purchased warehouse near Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. Knowing that Tennessee has many cities, towns, and counties that share names with other states, I didn’t get spun up or have a nervous breakdown. I assumed that either the linked article, or wherever they got their information from, maybe jumped the gun and probably should have done some looking on their own. It just isn’t helpful to getting anything done when we storm a meeting with crap information and lots of feelings trying to catch our local officials in a gotcha moment.

I see the Channel 2 story (below). They feel they have a confirmation in hand from ICE. https://www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/wilson-county-officials-unaware-of-new-ice-facility/

7200 jobs?! What the fuck they are talking out their asses. If you live in Wilson county or Lebanon pressure local officials to stop these based solely on lack of planning. Utilities and traffic need years to prepare for facilities that large. Use the system to grind things to a halt. Be the loudest nimby you can
M
Manic-StreetCreature • 72 points
I’ve contacted my rep with the “hey isn’t it weird that y’all weren’t consulted about this? That’s not right” angle (as well as mentioning the human rights abuse angle) because I think that’s the most effective way to get them to listen.

CoreCivic is making millions. Been covering this on my podcast, asked Terri Green what can be done. She’s running for governor. CoreCivic (also owens dilly detention center in Texas) is a public traded company. Black Rock is largest shareholder. Based in Brentwood Tennessee. They’re making $2bil a year, all our tax money. Building concentration camps. It’s HORRIFYING.
P
PirateCodingMonkey • 3 points
if corecivic is publicly traded, everyone buy a share and then go to the shareholders meetings and demand they change. if several hundred shareholders show up, it can make a difference.
R
robmox • 1 points
Hate to break it to you, but on the last shareholder call someone said “We’ve only detained 70,000 [undocumented] people. We should be over 100,000.”

Serious question for regime supporters: if the goal is to deport all the immigrants, what’s with the concentration camps? EDIT: this is not rhetorical. I really do want somebody to explain it to me!
J

Follow-up: if this is the party of economic conservatism, why is everyone ok w all of this costing the taxpayer fortune while also removing a substantial portion of the workforce
U
UcancallmeAllison • 23 points
But those sweet Core Civic investments aren’t going to grow themselves! Think of the wealthy & powerful for once, won’t you? They need those concentration camp dollars to feed their families.
F
FireZucchini33 • 21 points
the people that support this stuff don’t know how to use logic
H
HiddenTrampoline • 7 points
My understanding is that whereas previous administrations allowed nonviolent immigrants to live/work/pay taxes while waiting for hearings/court the current one wants to cloister them in a detention facility to make sure they show up to a hearing. Total waste of money on the face of it, plus it’s tracking to follow much a more nefarious path overall. (Germany also started with detention camps)
L
Lemonpup615 • 2 points
They also keep trying to [remigration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remigration) by trying to casually drop it in their social media post. In short remigration is a far-right concept referring to the ethnic cleansing via mass deportation of non-white minority populations, especially immigrants and sometimes including native-born citizens, to their place of racial ancestry.
D
daveneal • 6 points
They make more keeping them in detention facilities. $200.day and more for kids. Horrifying
R
robotfromfuture • 25 points
I am not a regime supporter, but the serious answer is that they are detaining immigrants ostensibly until their hearing. This is an unusual move historically and probably unconstitutional to do it at the scale and in the manner they’re doing it. Usually you need to show the person is harmful or a flight risk before holding them in detention pre-hearing. But this administration is doing it for essentially everyone they arrest. The conditions are also probably punitive which means they’re receiving criminal punishment without being afforded due process.
L
Lemonpup615 • 0 points
This is false. Citizens and people on approved visas are being grabbed and held. Calling the conditions punitive is also absolutely disgusting and you should really go find god or something idk im not religious but in 2025 32 people died. The dilley detention center has become infamous for housing children who were falling very ill, an Irish national just got released from one and their gov is outraged after they found out how the person was treated. If you truly believe what you just said there’s a special place in hell for you.
R
robotfromfuture • 2 points
Geez. You’re out of control. By serious answer I mean what the administration would likely say in response to the commenter’s question. And do you know what “punitive” means? It means inflicted as a punishment. Which is true based on what we know of the conditions in the centers. The fact that the punishment is punitive is the key fact in arguing that the detainees are being denied their due process rights, by the way. We all know that people are being wrongfully detained in these centers, and we all know the detainees’ rights are being violated, and go ahead and find the part of my post where I said otherwise. It’s understandable how upset you are about this terrible situation but misdirecting your anger doesn’t help anyone.
I
Intelligent-Parsley7 • 1 points
If you think that the only people going in those buildings are undocumented workers, you’re insane. Everyone they disagree with is going in there. Better start to agree, or you’re going in there. You’re not leaving.
R
robotfromfuture • 5 points
Do you think that’s what I think? I said what the administration’s answer to the question will be. I’m aware that citizens are already being detained in those places, that removal orders are being ignored, that a phony domestic terrorist database is being built, and that civil liberties are being generally trampled. No need for you to call me insane.
G
GeneralZex • 19 points
Not a supporter but it was never about deporting immigrants. That’s too costly. They would make a good show of doing it for “plausible deniability” but concentration camps and later death camps was always the end goal.
D
Desperate-Angle7009 • -9 points
How do you know that? Where is your proof of it?
L
Lemonpup615 • 5 points
Because they literally keep saying remigration which is literally a far-right concept referring to the ethnic cleansing via mass deportation of non-white minority populations, especially immigrants and sometimes including native-born citizens, to their place of racial ancestry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remigration
