Recent articles highlight a surge in interest around movies, particularly as new content emerges in the indie film space and adaptations of popular video games are announced. The Atlantic’s feature on standout indie movies to watch this year has likely drawn attention from audiences eager to discover fresh cinematic experiences. This showcase of indie films is timely as it connects with a growing trend of audience appreciation for unique storytelling outside mainstream blockbusters.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter’s coverage of the ‘Dead By Daylight’ movie adaptation introduces a new dimension to the film landscape, as video game adaptations have become a significant part of Hollywood’s offerings. The involvement of experienced writers from well-known horror franchises suggests that this film could attract both gamers and horror fans, amplifying search interest amongst diverse demographics.

Timothée Chalamet’s recent statements regarding the importance of theatrical releases have further sparked discussions about the cinema experience. His emphasis on movies in theaters creating “more of a moment” resonates with audiences who appreciate the communal aspect of film viewership, likely contributing to a rise in searches related to current and upcoming movie releases. These factors combined have elevated the visibility and search volume for movies during this period.

The only thing that bothers me in this regard is veneers everywhere. Perfect teeth as far as the eye can see, and it ruins my personal immersion quite a bit.

Every time I watch a pre 00s movie I am stunned by the wide variety of teeth everywhere They are so important for distinct faces IMHO All these veneers (as they are done in Hollywood these days) are really freaky looking.

Some of these people suddenly have a mouth that also looks too big. Not sure if it is purely the veneers, or it is a combination with other surgery.

Animated for your pleasure

Is that Julia Roberts? If so, she’s always had a massive mouth.

Might as well use Andy Samberg as an example next.

Actors need to start wearing green mouthpieces so we can digitally add more diverse teeth to their characters.

I miss the 90s, you see normal people, ugly people, pretty people and they disappear completely by 03. Like go back and watch some episodes of the Xfiles. Tons of normal looking people in every episode.

One of the thing I liked about Marty Supreme was he had grey/yellow teeth
F
FadedBlackTee2 • 425 points
They did a phenomenal job at making that movie feel like it had real people
M

That’s because it did!

Chalamet wore five facial prostheses to simulate acne scars.
M

I was more thinking about the non-professional actors that made up the movie, but yes.
W
Weird_Church_Noises • 3 points
I know it was one safdie for Marty, but both of them have said that part of their casting process is pointing at random people who they think might work and seeing if they’re down to be in a movie. The loanshark’s “henchmen” in uncut jems were just two dudes who looked rough.
C

Marty Supreme is people! /s
S
Simple_Dimple-01 • 22 points
I’ve not seen it yet, but I remember Uncut Gems did a good job of this too. Bring back interesting looking people.
K

And the acne scars
T
TheFloppySausage • 69 points
finding out they weren’t real was a shock for some reason
C
CuriOS_26 • 49 points
As someone who’s next to a person with those scars, they seemed perfectly realistic.
F

You’re next to someone with acne scars?
C

Yes, literally.

B

Because it enhances our immersion.
L

Because of the acne scars.

The way that Gwyenth Paltro was fooled by them to the point of her suggesting he try microneedling 😂😂
G

We watched it the other day and my wife literally said “I like that there’s ugly people in it” with a laugh. It’s true though. It really stood out that a film actually looked like it had real people in it.

Timmy also explained in an interview that to give him the “beady eyed” look, he wore contact lenses that messed up his eyesight, then had to wear corrective glasses to fix his vision.
J
jargon_ninja69 • 5 points
And HAMNET! Their teeth all got worse as the film went on.

Veneers and when they’ve obviously had work done bothers me. I can’t take Bradley Cooper seriously anymore, emily blunt and Nicole kidman looked out of place in oppenheimer and the northern. I suppose it worked for gosling in barbie but its going to bother me in project hail mary for sure.
C
Comfortable-Yam9013 • 22 points
Ryan looked good in Barbie but very weird in promo for his film with Blunt. He went crazy with filler.
E
exaltcovert • 17 points
Have you seen nic cage in the unbearable weight of massive talent? He absolutely did not need veneers!
P
poppycarew • 14 points
Bradley had a face/eye-lift recently. He has that blank stare now.
C
captain_wetbeard • 4 points
He looks like he’s prepping for a biopic of Barry Manilow. His chin skin is too tight!
S
shakycrae • 9 points
The Northman was so meticulous and historically researched to be authentic in its feeling. Nicole Kidman in that world felt even more anachronistic than even any other period piece.
W
winrix1 • 27 points
For real. I lol whenever I see blemishles 16th century peasants with perfect straight white teeth.
B
befuddled_humbug • 27 points
I saw a shot of the new Wuthering Heights. The fake, extremely white teeth are so ridiculously out of place considering the time and the context.
Q
quangtran • 49 points
People complain about perfect teeth, but actors often have no real choice in the matter. If you listen to actors podcasts they are upfront about their careers taking off as soon as they got their teeth fixed.
D
don_tomlinsoni • 37 points
Kirsten Dunst refused to be pressured into veneers by the producers of Spiderman and it doesn’t seem to have harmed her career one bit.
S
SeasonPositive6771 • 42 points
Are you talking about a movie that was released in 2002? A lot has changed since then. Edit: y’all are getting extremely weird about me pointing out this movie he’s referring to was like a quarter century ago. I’m a huge fan but she’s definitely the exception to the current Hollywood look.
